I'm excited to give this a good runthrough on my shiny new PSP Go.
I was a huge PSO nut back in the day. I had to play mostly during the night since it tied my phonelines, but myself and two cousins of mine would play the thing almost nightly. Our usual meetup place was Puck, Block 10. Got at least one character legitimately up to level 100 and got 2 or 3 others mighty close.
But man did the Phantasy Star Universe demo kill my anticipation I had for the game. I couldn't even find my way down to the planet service much less around the massive confusing ship.
I also passed over the original PSP due to lack of online play.
And I still want Phantasy Star Zero, but it's hard to come by. (My usual game-buying retailers, Best Buy & Wal-Mart, don't seem to stock it.)

Hype!
This seems to take the best of PSO and PSU (which really had some great things to it) like PSP1 did, but it makes them even better with some new creamy goodness.
Worked my way through the beginning part of the story before my second Scott Pilgrim viewing today.
I made my way to my quarters, but I don't like my character's design or name so I'm gonna restart 'im.
I almost picked the Neman clothing that looks like an Iron Man chest piece. Luckily, I rotated my guy around to learn that it ties to his back with a Huge Bow.

All of the piece clothing from this was later level clothing from PSP1, and I don't think that anyone liked it there. Once you make it to the base area, you can buy something better looking.
edit: It also imports whatever clothes you had from PSP1
It's going to take me a while to get used to X being dodge/grab instead of O again.

There was one that was useable, the pretty standard future battlesuit. The Four options for male Neuman, Standard Battlesuit, I am Bow Man, Frilly Lace Trimmed Battle Suit, and Auron from ff10.
At least you can change clothes.

Yeah, if they did that I'd play it. I didn't have a 360 when it first came out but now I do, and just in case I already downloaded Ambitions since it's free.
The AOTI expansion for PSU went free on the Xbox. I'm fairly sure that it requires normal PSU, and it doesn't have offline missions on the Xbox though. The PC and PS2 versions are standalone and have their own offline missions, if you can find them.

But by free do you mean free to play, or that you can upgrade your copy of vanilla PSU and continue to be ripped off by their monthly fee?

So are we using Skype for voice comm or Vent? Who's gonna be playing tonight and what times? I'm EST but I think I'll have most of the evening free, I hope.

Yeah just the xpack is free on Live.
The way it works is when you load up PSU it asks you if you want to stay in PSU or go to AotI. AotI on Live is online only for everything; so as mentioned you must have the $9.99/mo subscription to play anything from AotI.
You can still play PSU offline for free though in story mode or extra mode if you've unlocked it. It just won't have any of the episode 2/3 stuff in it, rendering AotI worthless if you don't have a subscription.
Honestly given the subscription and that you can't play AotI at all without it (on the 360), they never should have charged for it on that. The PC/PS2 ones had Episode 2 offline (with videos etc to boot), just not Episode 3, which actually only concluded last December.
However, in case anyone was still not aware there are no longer servers for the PC/PS2 versions of PSU/AotI. You cannot play them online anymore at all. Live is the only way to play PSU online anymore.
I just hope they come to their senses and make it free to play before too long. They could just have a major overhaul and make the game friend/host only like the PSP/PSZero versions to get rid of the need for having lobbies and hosting servers (and the need to pay for them via sub fees); or they could suck it up and just host the servers since the playerbase is relatively small enough to have it not be too expensive.
Oh well, dreams. I'm just jealous since I can't play any of the new PS games because I 1) don't have a PSP and 2) don't touch my DS since it gives me migranes and I don't want to shell out for an XL.

To be fair I don't feel like PS0 was much more than a small overture to what the series was. It looked like PSO, it played a lot like PSO, but in the end it was sort of empty.
PSP1 was a fun ride until I realized I had to fall asleep to atually have to worry about anything (Yes I know, I was warned.)
until PSP2 you haven't really missed much.
If they made psu free to play on the 360 I might finally give in and buy the console.

They seem to be trying really hard to keep all of the promo material intact, and they've hinted pretty strongly at the Fate/Stay Night gear being left in as well. (I believe they were shown in an English E3 video or something)
Hit level 15 in the demo already, probably be looking for people to try and run Bruce's Dungeon and farm all the rares out of the demo before the full game ships. I remember in the PSP1 demo you could get a lot of stuff that you wouldn't see until near end game in the retail version.
Uh, depends on who's all showing up. We might have 4, we might not.

So if I'm understanding this new chain system, the class dynamic goes...
Rangers and Vanguards with Guns build up chain
Hunters and Vanguards with Melee break chains with photon arts
Forces diddle themselves over in the corner where they won't die instantly and buff/heal as needed
New Scenario “Episode 2″
Degree of Difficulty “Infinity” added
Races
Human, Newman, Cast, Beast, Dewman
All existing races have been redesigned once again.
Dewmans are a human mutation.
Dewmans wear an eye patch.
Story Mode
1.5 times the length of Episode 1.
New Character. “Nagisa”
Nagisa is voiced by “Nana Mizuki“
Nagisa is 15 years old.
She belongs to a new race known as the デューマン “Dewman”.
She has a eye patch on her right eye. She carries a HUGE SWORD.
She is wandering around Gurhal for some reason.
Lobby Change
Shougai PSO’s speculations came true!
A new visual lobby!
The number of people who can join a lobby is the same as PSO’s
You can chat with others and recruit people to your party.

Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity is not just a mere upgraded version.
The game’s title refers to how it will “break limits”
It may be a little early to start pining over the expansion when the base game hasn't even released, but I wonder if there's even a slight hope of seeing a US release.

Any mention of your angle of attack actually being important as in PSO, or will every enemy in the game continue to unerringly auto-face their target up until the block/dodge point and thus continue to feel like exactly the same freaking monster over and over again?
Seriously, once you notice every last monster in the game follows this one directive, you can't unsee it.
Well more people would probably be on it, but the demo level cap is only 15. So once we reached it there wasn't much more to do. We're just waiting for the full game now.
Apparently they're all pretty hard to find though, and once we hit 15 it's not like we're even getting experience while we hunt for them. All we'd get are maybe some class levels.

Unfortunately the PSP2 demo is unlike the PSP1 demo in that it contains no exclusive drops or anything of the sort. All of the drop charts are exactly as they are in the retail version.
Makes it a lot less appealing to grind out missions once you've hit the level cap.
Also type level is capped at 5, so even getting type points would stop fairly soon after you hit the level cap sadly.
Man, you guys have forgotten your roots. PSO was NEVER about leveling, it was about being prettiest. And to do that you have to hunt rares. You'll always hit cap months before you're done finding the cool stuff. And when will you ever want to go back to the low level missions anyway?

Alright. Guess I'll get something to eat and wait awhile then.
Edit2: no takers right now, gonna go try it out solo so I can see what was happening in English this time.
Edit3: I'd like to try again tomorrow night. Just let me know what level you guys end at so I can try to keep around there.
