Except for Louise and Pent. I think the evidence leans in favour of them being together.
Which reminds me, I find Pent to be by far the most useful mage/sage in the game. he has decent (but not amazing growth), starts with decent skills in both anima and staves, and is with you for around half of the game. While I like Erk and Nino, Erk doesn't have that good of growths, and Nino is a really late addition that I didn't find worth it.
Yeah, but Erk is with you for the other half, so by the time you reach Pent you can just do a quick comparison and ditch the one that isn't up to par.
Hey, I like using Nino (and her character), but from a Ranked gameplay standpoint, she's not very good.
I just don't like putting that much effort into her that late in the game. I did it once but just didn't want to do it again. That and I like Pent as a character more. though I'm also a fan of more durable units over speed or glass cannons. Therefore I like Armored Knights/Generals, Mercs/Heroes, Cavaliers/Paladins, etc.
I like Nino. Turns out really good with Afa's Drops, and after a few playthroughs I like the added challenge. Besides, she can be helpful on the Experience ranking for ranked play. Erk, not so much but Priscilla is one of the few characters I've had max every stat and she gets a horse! Basically, Priscilla is awesome except for the incest thing.
Besides the fact that Nino helps your Exp rank, fire > thunder.
My affinity preference usually goes to Fire or Wind. Fire has Dart, Guy, Rebecca, Lowen and Nino. Wind has Lyn, Sain, Matthew, Priscilla and Fiora. Thunder has Hector, Serra, Erk and Heath. Hector will be unstoppable either way, Serra is outclassed by Lucius, Erk is outclassed by Nino and Heath is outclassed by all the Pegasus Knights.
Also, not unimportant, fire gives full support bonuses to Attack, Hit, Evade and Critical Hit, arguably more useful than Defense, Evade, Critical Hit and Critical Evade.
Nino may help your Exp. rank, but she'll murder your Turn rank in turn. And assuming you use early game characters instead of prepromotes, your Exp rank is never in danger anyway.
As for support affinities, I don't deny Fire is a better affinity than Thunder. The problem is that the game is easy enough (even on HHM) that these bonuses don't really matter. A leveled up Nino will perform better than Erk, but not significantly better to the point where she brings anything really new to the table. That, and the fact that she only joins you 5-7 chapters before the end, is where the problem lies.
Now I remember why I've stopped playing Fire Emblem.
Fired it up yesterday. Towards the end of a chapter, I attack a Druid, 48% to hit with Luna, 4% to critical, and of course, critical hit animation starts.
Like Serra getting Critted by a Pegasus Knight with a 48% hit chance and a 1% crit chaARE YOU SHITTING ME,GAME. And on the absolute last turn of a Survival mission too.
The absolute best part was that I sat there for like 30 seconds agonizing whether I should go through with it. The horror of that event has been burned into my memory.
I don't dislike Micaiah for her qualities in battle. I usually don't base my like for Fire Emblem characters on their combat abilities.
I just don't like Micaiah as a person. And I'm not sure I can articulate why, but I think a large part of it is her immense love for a country whose inhabitants would murder her without hesitation the moment they found out what she was.
Granted, the inhabitants of most of the other countries would too, but at least in that case it wouldn't be official government policy.
You probably hated her because her entire concept and behavior reads like a bad Mary Sue fanfic.
I'm using a Hammerne on this thread to say that I finally booted up Radiant Dawn a few weeks ago after more than a 2 year hiatus and tonight I finally completed it. No deaths. Very epic. Some incredibly frustrating and difficult parts. The most difficult Fire Emblem I've played and I've beaten every FE released in the west. No deaths.
What a game. Despite the hideous voice acting and no warning about what the blessing does exactly.
So, there's a new FE on 3DS, just came out in Japan, as I'm sure you're all aware. It looks amazing. Is there a thread for it? If not, we should turn this one into it.

Daein was never a good place for laguz or Branded. I don't understand why Micaiah loves it so.

We sure do. And it's right here.
