[WoW] [Chat]aclysm: still not here
Posts
:?:
My main toon has a very Italian/French oriented name. But not my warrior. My warrior's name is completely the opposite of an ethnically oriented name.
Lore spoilery goodness, don't click if you want to be surprised
Oh and soon to come: Ashenvale.

According to Joseph Smith that information is incorrect. I'll take his word over your "science."
I really like the current human female models. They may not be terribly realistic... but hot damn.
The Westfall quests are dripping with references to CSI:Miami, Karl Marx and V for Vendetta.
Classic Blizzard. :P
Oh, is this where the Marx references come in? I remember that all of Westfall basically leads to VC, but I never bother to really read quest text, even now. >_>
Also, for anyone who missed it: The WIRED sexual dimorphism-in-WoW article.
Well of course. I wouldn't change my Human female priest for anything, but still.
- The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (2017, colorized)
I'd post a screen or two from when my mage was wearing Cindercloth stuff but yeah.
Edit - Apparently I've deleted a bunch of screens from my compy.
Ugly Orcs, Rotting Undead, Hideous Trolls, Two-Legged Cattle.
They used to be cool with Blood Elves, til they started snorting lines of mana dust off the asses of Night Elf hookers. You just can't trust a magic addict with your Night Elf Hookers. Something had to be done.

Is this sarcasm at the Mormons expense, or are you being serious?
The internet has basically killed my sarcasm detectors.
In the 1800's, a lot of people believed that Native Americans were descended from the '10 lost tribes of Israel'. I believe (but am too lazy to wikipedia it) that this theory was founded by or publicized by Spencer, one of the leading figures of the early eugenics movement.
Mormons believe something even stranger, something about native americans being the survivors of a giant evil empire that wiped out the first kingdom of god, or something like that.
I agree, I want my females to look like hookers too!
Because we're raiding ICC, not Goldshire.
Because its dumb?
I've never really understood what people see in stripper armor.
That is why Mormons cower in fear when they meet me... :winky:
I guess the point is the parts of the armor that they don't see.
Yeah, things at Sentinel Hill are starting to...
*sunglasses*
Heat up.
The bears' names are: MmoUsd, DotCom, SellGold, and OneThousand.
*It's a stupid Twilight reference.
I don't think the people who wrote that article really get WHY this sexual dimorphism exists in MMOs.
Well, neither do I, and since that article didn't really say anything interesting, let's have something resembling a conversation. Why does it exist in MMOs?
Because, as far as I've ever seen from players and heard in development stuff, people who want to play female characters want them to be "pretty". Especially, afaik, alot of the women players.
Well, that makes sense for blood elves and night elves and what have you. But beast creatures like trolls or draenei? Don't make quite as much sense.
Also, why aren't the people who want to play "pretty" male characters being accommodated? Heck, even the belf males got beefed up during the beta, before they were (ever-so-slightly) sleeker and thinner.
Wht doesn't it? People wanna play pretty Trolls.
Because their aren't many of them? Because BEs or the like satisfy that group more then enough?
Trolls aren't pretty. That's pretty much the classic definition of a troll, some kind of hideous monster that lives under a bridge somewhere where it can leech free wireless internet access. Okay, maybe that last part isn't part of the classic definition of troll, but still. They aint pretty, son.
There's no race like that on Alliance, which is traditionally the pretty faction. Where all the pretty boys gone? Customization and such should be pretty important in an MMO, and that is an area where I've always felt that WoW fails miserably at.
Robes robes robes robes robes OKAY WE GET IT. How about some creativity? It doesn't have to show skin.
I would posit that the number of women who want to be hideous monsters mass murdering the countryside is drastically lower than the number of women who want to play sexy characters... mass murdering the countryside. Add in the number of male players who also like playing as sexy characters mass murdering the countryside and it becomes pretty clear, from a maximizing profit standpoint, which group to cater to.
I'm more curious why they don't do both though.I presume it has something to do with like, having to do a whole new set of armor textures for, say, hunchbacked female trolls or flat chested tauren women, but I am no graphics designer.
This phenomenon isn't limited to mmo's either. Me and my friends are still wtfing over why wotc decided that reptiles, plants and psychic rocks needed breasts, but so it goes. I guess to put it another way, This is a game, and people play it to enjoy themselves. If most of the female fanbase wouldn't want to play ugly characters, then why make all troll females ugly? For the sake of lore and logic? Fuck that noise I say, realism should always take a back seat to fun.
LoL: failboattootoot
It's different in WoW. Trolls are Blue Voodoo-loving Jamaicans with tusks.
And some people want to play a pretty blue jamaican.
Night Elves, remember?
And yeah, sometimes their are distinctions between sides. Shit, some people said BEs were brought in to give the Horde a "pretty" race.
I don't get what's so hard to understand here. People like to play pretty characters sometimes. And they ESPECIALLY like to play pretty characters when they play female characters.
The #1 complaint about the old school Troll or Tauren designs was that they weren't pretty.
Ignoring the douchy scowl they have on their face they look incredibly pretty boy.
Remember when mage t8 was pants instead of a robe? People as a general rule hated it, and even if they didn't, their guildmates(ME) made fun of how stupid they looked all the time. Robes are about the best they can do for casters. The differentiating factors are the helms/shoulders. Warlock T10 is amazing looking, and it's a robe.
I really hope they are all put on the same server so you can just fly into them without having to go through a stupid loading screen. It really wouldn't be all that hard to keep the tiny fraction of players who didn't buy the expansions out (if you even wanted to bother), any of the following would work:
*Apply the "No Man's Land" debuff that is currently in Hyjal to the expansion zones and have it only trigger for people present that don't have the expansion.
*Let them in, but all quest givers and vendors and such have a flag set so that they'll only talk to the people who have the expansion.
*Just flat out put up invisible walls for the expansionless. They certainly didn't mind putting that invisible wall around Black Temple for no good reason.
Basically I just want to be able to freely fly around the Eastern Kingdoms without having to run into dumb loading screens because Blizzard is afraid that the very small amount of people who don't buy the expansion might get to see a portion of what that expansion offers.
This was why I never rolled NE male. They looked gangly and an odd comparison to the female model and the other males available in the game. Never liked how they looked, even in combat when they get their battle stance on and stretch themselves out.
I wish Blizzard would realize they can play around with alpha channels for robes and make a robe that goes down to, like, the knees or something, or has cut-out designs in it, or anything. It can still be a robe, but just show off your pants or something.
