May I Use Celebrities in Comics?

Hi guys,

I just had a great idea (well, at least my mom says it's good and my friends say it's rock'n'roll) but I don't know where I stand with the legal matters. Some of my comic characters are well known and considering the style of my drawing, they will be instantly recognizable by anyone. They're not the top-list celebrities but you've seen their muzzles on TV a few times, I bet.

So, what is your experience? Am I allowed to publish that sort of art or I'll get their lawyer knockin' at my door tomorrow?

Thanks!

P.S. They are not depicted in a lewd or disrespectful manner... :D:

Gabe and Tycho have depicted Jesus in their comics (although I guess Jesus doesn't have a crack team of lawyers working for him). In any case, dude, depict anybody but Mohammad in your drawing and so long as it's not false, defamatory and/or malicious you can't get boned for libel.
