Ha, its cool to see the reimagining of the 1st midboss of the original game.
But the game does seem a bit easy...

Contra always looks easy when the person playing isn't dying every 10 seconds.

Pretty sure Rising Mode has multiple difficulty levels, so he was probably playing on easy or something.

well it does have the three health system that was added to the US Hardcorps because Americans are pussies and you got not only a double jump but an air dash and some invincibility mode to run through hard areas. So that's like Megaman X2 with all the powerups or something.

I remember renting it and getting a few different endings, but there was at least one ending that I just could not achieve. That was another great thing about it: multiple paths.

    Review from Gamespot is up:

    http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/hardcorpsuprising/review.html

Looks pretty good - the rising mode sounds interesting, with stuff to unlock like more lives and health. I assume it's going to be 1200 points, but if the demo is as good as the review makes it sound, I'll probably grab it.

Ugh, people can't seem to tolerate difficult games anymore. They want everything handed to them on a fucking platter. Why even play games if there isn't any kind of challenge?

"Man, why do enemies even have to shoot back? They should just stand there so I can shoot them."

That review is hardly fair about the checkpoints. Before and after each (mini)boss is a checkpoint, with the exception of the first boss, where you have to fight part 2 and 3 in a row, Luckily the last part had an easy enough pattern to remember.

Anyway, bought this game, loving it to death. Arcade is very tough, uprising gets (very) managble after some points and health upgrades. I recommend playing it solo at least halfway through before hitting online. Completed the game with a random fellow an hour ago. The last boss can be a little bit random, but after some patience even he will go down every time you face him.

Although you have a health system, in uprising mode you can turn it off, creating the old contra if you like. Good luck with that. Ahem.

Looks like I found another game that demands the greatness of the TE fight stick. Not only is it far more accurate than the 360 controller, it's a lot heavier, so I'm less likely to hurl it across the room in anger after dying for the umpteenth time.

Bought it. I'm really impressed. I couldn't have even hoped for this.

More than anything, the level layout and enemies really take the cake. A lot of the recent Contra games have bored me with dull design, but this one just absolutely nails it.

And yea, it's hard. Should be fun to unlock upgrades as time goes on.

I feel bad for stealing the last life of my fellow player when
he killed the last boss. There was still some platforming to be done, with a sneaky jump towards a heliopter who doesn't stay in one place very long. He jumped, failed, RAGED. I jump, made it. I got the achievement for all his hard work.

We tried again afterwards, completing the game again.

So, How is everyone liking it so far?

Excepts for stage 4 and 7 bosses, who really are chores when you dont have any weapon powerups, this game is just awesome. Some tricky platforming in level 3 and 7 can cause some unintended multiplayer deaths too, but thats where voice chats is for.

Anyone up for some multiplayer mayhem?

Played a bunch more, holy shit this game is fantastic.

It's a pretty even merging between old NES Contras and Contra Hard Corps on Genesis, with a lot of smart upgrades to the whole design.

It's incredibly satisfying, this may very well be my favorite Contra game ever.

Way harder than either if you're talking arcade mode. But the game includes another mode that lets you unlock more lives, hit points, pre-upgraded weapons, and all sorts of other stuff.

Getting the no lives lost on arcade mode achievement will be incredibly epic, if anyone ever gets it...

Well, I could see it becoming feasible with practice, but Contra 4 was cheap in a different way...

Despite being that way, this game is waaaaay better / more fun than Contra 4.

This game is definitely not cheap with its difficulty. The bullets are more like NES Contra speed for the most part. Since it's 16:9 aspect ratio you can see stuff coming at you for longer than Contra 4.

I guess it's more like a bullet hell SHMUP. There's just a lot of stuff coming at you to deal with, but it's easy to lose all your lives / continues in the first level in arcade.

The levels are longer than most Contra games.

I just love all the little secrets that are hidden in each level. All levels have a hidden star and some emblins to collect, for massive point bonus and achievements.
Talking about achievements, things like completing the game with only the standard gun and only killing bosses sounds HARD. Once I get both my characters leveled up in Rising I'm gonna try it in arcade though!

Did all of you know can hide in boxes a la Snake in level 5? I was really expecting an achievement for not tripping any alarms on that level!
So is this game Contra 3 hard (Easy once you practice), or Contra IV hard (impossible no matter how many times you try)?

I'm liking it so far. If you want the proper challenge turn of all health in rising mode, and don't use 'B' to deflect any bullets. Its probably Contra 3 hard though. The last boss can be very unpredictable thx to the level itself, but almost everything else has an easy enough patern to remember.

But this one has LEADERBOARDS, online co-op and an interesting scoresystem. This is what will keep me interested.

Has anyone tried the konami-code? I must be doing something wrong as it did nothing.

I repurchased all my Zen Pinball tables just so I could use them on Xbox Live.

I don't see this working on an arcade stick. I need a shoulder button to lock my feet in place and shoot. I need to experiment to get the controls working on the SFIV fightpad. It just requires not having a dash button. Of course you can just push a direction twice ala Blazblue.

Well that first series of bosses were silly to watch. Sure they were 3-d models, but I felt they were animated pretty good. The first boss is rather humerous to watch. I can't say what boss 2 is like, because these levels are really effing long.

Come to think of it, the only big-sprite bosses I can think of are in Deathsmiles. What other examples are there?
