Need a good "Reminder" program

I basically need an alarm or an application on my desktop that will show me the calendar and tell me when to do things. I am just forgetful of things and it would be nice to have something that I can edit and put notes on.

Yes I have a regular calendar at home but I am on the computer more often. And no I am not moving the calendar towards the computer. It has a home in the kitchen.

The last thing it needs to be is free. If I have to pay then I don't really need it.

    The free version of Rainlendar can do a ton and has a desktop interface.
    Google Calendar can apparently also text you, but last I checked there wasn't a desktop interface.

    I like google calendar - you can mark in events and as part of them have it send you a reminder email or pop-up a specified period beforehand.

    One other calendar program you may want to try is VueMinder Calendar. Like Rainlendar, it integrates into the Windows desktop. However, its desktop calendar is much more full-featured, and you can create or open events directly from the desktop calendar interface. You can even drag events around to reschedule them, directly on the desktop. It's a very slick design - one of the best user interfaces I've ever seen.

    Both the Lite (free) and Pro (paid) versions have a desktop calendar, as well as a main window for viewing schedules by day, week, month, etc. I've used Rainlendar in the past, but as soon as I discovered VueMinder I was a convert!

    Here's a screenshot I from VueMinder's help documentation. On my desktop, I made the calendar smaller than what is shown here. It can be resized and moved very easily:
