On a semi-related tangent, I really wish they hadn't taken Breeze & Heavenly Star for Lumines Live off of XBox Live. I still have both on my older XBox 360 that I use for development, but it'd be nice to get them on the new system that we have hooked up to the big TV in the living room.

They might not be on the marketplace but you should be able to redownload them through Account Management.

Finished it last night and I have decided that I really don't like this chick that keeps showing up. Seriously, is she some Japanese pop star or something? Every FMV of her just annoyed me to no end.
Played through Rez HD again right after to confirm that it was still the more awesome of the two, though I will admit that the Passion level on CoE is the absolute pinnacle of either game.

Last time I checked, they weren't on my Account Management download list, but I just checked on XBox.com and they were. Excellent.

I'm confused as to how I should be advancing through the levels. Now I have had a bit to drink but I don't think that's a real factor. I finish I a level (so far only two star but always 90%+ purified) and then I get to choose a reward. For the level advance is it always evoltuion v 1.0? I've just finished Beauty twice, the second time getting 98% purified and 100% support.
It is a ridiculously pretty game though. I liked Rez due its simplicity and ease and whislt Eden is harder I just can't get over how pretty it is. It's fun looking at the concept art and imagining a team of developers going ' and that's how colourful our game is going to be!'

Level progression hinges on two things: you complete the level before it, and you have the stars necessary to unlock it. The things you choose at the end of completing a level are rewards that decorate Lumi's garden (ie: the level select screen), and don't effect how you get the next level.
If you've completed a level, and the next one isn't unlocked yet, just go back and play the previous levels a couple more times to get more stars.
only played a bit so far but this game has dope music and is really pretty
probably one of the most satisfying games to play for kinect, i'm enjoying the controls a ton.
my one thing, how do you guys fire your right hand? at first i did a force push motion but now i just kinda wave to side and it seems to pick it up well. i also tried using my finger like a gun and going 'bang bang' and 'pewpew', which worked less well but was fun.

She's Lumi. She's the lead singer of the Genki Rockets and therefore part of Mizaguchi's personal passion project. Basically you're saving her and stuff.

Just played the fourth level. That was pretty amazing. As soon as you get the first phase change it was superb. Shame that its ridiculously hard though. Put it on the no damage mode and felt that I could probably do this until I got to the boss which was just brutal.
edit:
Haha, first time I tried it after the no damage mode I got 100% purification and support. Its currently the only level I have 100% purification on. Beauty is annoying me though, 99%! Really want to get all the achievements but I tried hard and it's just not going to happen. Ever.

The Eurogamer review talks about splaying out your right hand as you release the shot, I'm assuming the people who were saying they were having a bit of trouble with it are doing that, right?
I picked this up today. I bought my Kinect for Dance Central and I haven't really used it for anything else since. I'm completely turned off by minigames and waggle in general.
That said, this is really the first game I can point to and say, very loudly, that it is 100% better thanks to kinect. I wouldn't dream of playing this without Kinect. With Kinect, the experience is unlike anything else I've ever played before.
The best way I can describe it, is that I feel like fucking iron man, shooting pulse cannons out of my arm. Incredible game so far.

I'm quite excited to get to try this game later tonight at this bi-weekly community game night that I run at a local Applebees. I expect to be selling Kinects to unsuspecting restaurant patrons, which is generally not what I would anticipate would ever happen.
Got the game in the mail last night and played the first level. It's okay. I really don't like that everything doesn't automatically happen on the beat anymore like in Rez. That was my favourite feature. Now you have to manually shoot on the beat. The first level just seemed to be a lot of non-threatening cubes. I didn't have time to see any more but I expect to be blown away by the later levels.

I gotta ask, is it really that much better? You're playing the same game, just waving a different part of your body at the screen. Unless it actually offers some advantage, I don't understand the infatuation with it.

Ditto, though I'd love to give it a go. I'm just not curious enough to shell out the money for an accessory I otherwise have no interest in.

Yeah, the only time I'm going to be playing this with a kinetic is in like 4 months when I'll be visiting a friend with kinetic whilst on holiday. Not shelling out for it at all.
Also lots of the time i don't get the whole beat thing. It seems random if I get the score multiplier or not. I'm letting go of A when my controller rumbles but it's seems hit or miss and trying to go with my tapping (since that's the beat that I'm getting from the song) just does not seem to work. Any tips for someone who is apparently completely rhythm dense?

You don't need a Kinect to play it. Non Kinect players get separate leaderboards and everything.
Which group has the highest scores?
My guess, the group that cares about that sort of thing.
Are you suggesting that one group does not have an inherent advantage and that if both groups care about scores equally, the scores will be statistically the same?

It has nothing to do with accuracy and score and everything to do with just having fun, really. It's not really a very good comparison, but the closest I can think is playing DDR with a controller versus an actual dance pad. It's completely playable on the controller, people like it that way, and some people will probably be faster and on the beat more, but grooving on the dance pad is something that's just hilariously enjoyable.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that the game is unplayable without Kinect -- not true at all, it's still Rez with a controller and it's still great -- but the biggest part about Kinect for me is the releasing of your lock-on on the beat. On the controller, you just let go of the button, but with Kinect you have to wind up a little, then fling your hand forward to hit right on the downbeat -- it's kind of like conducting, in a way, and based on my own play with controller and Kinect I end up internalizing the beats/tempo of each song a lot better with Kinect since I have to really know where the downbeats are. And when you get comfortable with how the reticle sweeps faster on Kinect (there are adjustable speed settings for sensitivity), being able to sweep your hand in a broad circle to knock down a whole chain of purple bullets feels fantastic.
Are you suggesting that one group does not have an inherent advantage and that if both groups care about scores equally, the scores will be statistically the same?
I'll check later today, but I'd wager the controller scores are generally better than the Kinect ones. Being able to flip to your rapid-fire laser and trigger smart bombs quicker is probably better, but on the other hand, if a Kinect player gets good enough with moving the reticle around at higher speeds, they'd definitely be able to move around the screen way faster than a controller (sort of the whole dual analog vs. KB+M debate).
Interestingly enough, I also remember there being a lot more Kinect scores registered than controller (meaning a large majority of the people who bought the game are playing it with Kinect). Like, a 2:1 ratio when I looked at launch, though it might have changed since then.

No, I'm saying there are people who care about high scores, who will use whatever apparatus best suits their need to get high scores. My guess is the controller. There will be another group who don't care about high scores, but are interested in it for the experience of playing a unique game in a unique fashion. I predict these people will gravitate towards Kinect.

This game is pretty damn great. Preaching to the choir, I know, but damn. Rez is one of my top five favorites and so far this is living up to it. Totally worth the $50 and I'm only four levels in.
Remember that if you're playing this with a controller to use as many 360 controllers as you can. Once you have them connected go to the option screen, go to vibration and turn on the other controllers. During gameplay they all go to a different beat in the music or sound effect. Stuff them around your body it's pretty rad.
