For someone reason, lately it's been opening iTunes on its own and playing the first song in my library which happens to be Ah's "Take on Me." This is getting really annoying. I will quit iTunes and five minutes later, iTunes opens itself and plays music.
It seems to happen randomly. Some days it won't happen at all, some days it keeps happening over and over. Seems my only choice is to put the computer to sleep.
My only guess is that there might be a keyboarding shortcut that would cause this to happen. If something's wrong with the keyboard, could it be sending that shortcut by itself? I don't even know if there's a shortcut that says "Open iTunes and play the first song."
It's possible that your Mac is receiving an infrared signal (IR) that happens to start iTunes and play your music. I know Apple sells a remote that lets you control your iTunes, but another remote in your house might be sending the same one that it sends.

Also check that you're not pressing a media key on keyboards attached to your iMac (by default, pressing play/pause would open itunes and have it play the first song, yes)
additionally, check to see if any users on your local network can access itunes through itunes preferences
if there's a random key press at fault, it will be listed in system preferences>keyboards>keyboard shortcuts, check services and application shortcuts
