They had their hearts set on UCLA since I was a wee lass but really, the chances of me getting in are pretty slim. I'm not astounding academically and I don't have a special life story or character.

But even to randomly apply everywhere and hope to be accepted somewhere, I'd have no idea where to begin.

There are giant books filled with info on current programs at various schools, but start by talking to your guidance counselor at school, and they will throw resources at you

    i dont have many disappointments

though when im feeling down about something, i usually take a nap.

if it is a prolonged problem that a nap will not fix, i sit down at a table with a pen and a piece of paper and write down what it is that is bothering me, and come up with a plan to eradicate the problem from my life and fix the bullshit.

sometimes i end up with a plan that takes a few hours to execute, sometimes longer.

my most recent "gotta fix this shit" plan is in month 6 out of a 12 month period i have set up with different goals and way points along to way to meet to make sure i stay on task.

In all seriousness Muse this was pretty close the the plan that you wanted wasn't it?

Weren't you planning on just doing the one year at CC anyway?

I mean this doesn't change anything, you can still apply next year.

Not my plan, no. Intended on doing a gap year and searching/applying during that time. Was thinking of doing some full-time volunteer work through the government or something.

    Fair enough.

    Look, apply regardless.

If you don't get in, not the worst thing in the world.

If you get in great! Show your parents you are smart enough and then tell them your plan.

Oh here's one other thing that is not disappointing: The Wire

Finally started watching this. I'm only like 5 eps in but damn I really like it. Not a huge fan of the "main" character yet - a middle-age detective with a strained relationship with his wife/ex-wife and kids, and a small-to-major drinking problem isn't terribly inspired. Despite that, loving it

    you will be fine.

B average is more than adequate to get into a decent school. And honestly, no matter where you go, the first 4 years of college are the same pretty much no matter what school you go to(barring specialty school that are directly involved in the line of work you want to go into. but seriously you are just out of high school, do you really know what the fuck you wanna do with life?)

when people start thinking about "oh you went to yale" is at the graduate level. just find a college that offers courses you like and will give you scholarships so you wont be hella in debt, and enjoy it.

    oh fuck muse

    man, you are fiiiine.

there is a huge myth/phobia thing about what college people go to right out of high school. The truth of the matter is, for 95% of people out there, unless you know EXACTLY, at the age of 18, what the hell you want to do and be when you grow up - the actual undergraduate college education itself wont be much different.

what is different from college to college is location and money.

I guarantee you that someone that went to Mizzou and worked their ass off, will get more out of college and be at a better place than someone who went to Harvard and just coasted.

what i am trying to say is, WHERE you go college isn't the thing that matters. Its what you DO at college that matters.

I guess the only massive disappointment I've ever had was back when I was 19 and this girl who I had been dating for years and was totally in love with broke up with me. I had never been in love before that, and never have since. To be honest, for the past 6 years since then I have only had very short-lived relationships that I usually tend to end as soon as I realize I'm not going to actually fall in love with the girl. Hell, I've been single for most of the months of the last 3 and a half years. Being single is kinda nice in a lot of ways, but I really want to legitimately fall in love with a girl again. I feel bad for the girls I cut things off with, but at least I do it as soon as possible. I would feel really bad if they got attached and I ended up just liking them because I was lonely or something selfish like that. If someone loves you, they deserve to be loved back.

see, my experience with breaking up with my first love has produced pretty much the exact opposite effect.

Muse, it's important to realize that what you decide to do now is in no way permanent. You can change anything at any time.

When I graduated high school, I had a general idea of what I thought I wanted to do. I went to college for three years for it, before realizing that I hated every bit of it. The next day I started looking for new schools. I walked away from three years of college to go to a new school for something completely different.

...And after I got THERE I realized that what I had for my major wasn't want I really wanted. What I wanted was what I was doing for my minor so I switched them.

Took me 6 years, three colleges and three majors to find what I wanted and finally graduate but you know what? I'm happier for it.

If you don't like what you do, or you don't get the choice school you want, don't worry about it. You can always change things later.

    massive disappointment...

Moving to Alberta last summer, driving my ass out there for a "guaranteed" job that fell apart within 5 weeks leaving me pretty well stranded and broke. Which led directly into me going back to Ontario with my tail between my legs to live with my parents for the first time in 8 years. And then I pretty well fell into an emotional depression which I've only really pulled myself out of in the last 6 weeks, although I started moving towards a better emotional state around 3 months ago.

Fuck. At least things are getting better now and I am moving on.

The thing that really sucks is if that job didn't fall apart I would be totally out of debt right now. Oh well.

Yikes! Kinda glad I never fell in love with any of my girlfriends who did drugs. Yeah the one I loved broke up with me as gently as possible, and I saw it coming for some time. I was her first boyfriend, and she wanted to "try out some other guys," before she decided who she loved. Which was an idea that was put into her head by her mother, who swore she was making a mistake by dating me for so long, when "she could do so much better." Her dad didn't like me either, so I guess that also didn't help. They didn't think I had enough money, and my 3.5 GPA public education was too low for their 4.0 private school daughter. But then I play some Half Life 2 and I feel better.

Man I don't understand why I love that game so much. I've played it to death, brought it back to live and then played it to death again. It's just so comforting running around alone in the canals of City 17 and smashin headcrab zombies in Ravenholm.

It's even better when I eat chocolate chips cookies while I play too. <3

Oh, man, my parents (namely my mother) were the same way with my wife. She was just simply not good enough for her no matter what she did, and they ended up fighting all the time because my mom would take the tamest e-mail or something and get all offended and bent out of shape. She always found a way to be slighted by something my wife said, and now that we're getting divorced I can't make her STFU about how right she was. She told me when we first got engaged that we wouldn't last six months and we'd have ugly children. Well we lasted exactly one year and never got pregnant, so I showed her! :rotate:
