I think I must be misunderstanding what you mean. You want that wrinkling in the sidewall, that makes for better launches.

If road noise and harshness are a problem, a musclecar probably isn't where one would want to look for transportation.

There is a significant difference in tyre construction and thus behaviour between drag slicks and road tyres. If your (radial belted) road tyres are wrinkling the sidewalls, you need to put some air in them, rather than run them at 0 psi.

Yes, this I am aware of.

Still, I was only talking about straight line performance at a drag strip, where common practice is to lower the driving wheel tire pressures significantly. Whether this still produces the wrinkle in the sidewall in radials I'm not sure.

Maybe I am wrong and this only occurs in slicks? This information hasn't come from personal experience, but rather instruction from those with the personal experience.

Those forged magnesium wheels are a couple of grand each. As are the carbon ceramic brake discs, and the brake calipers are at least a thousand bucks each.

Including the forged aluminium alloy suspension arms and coilovers, all the above (sold second-hand) plus a couple more things like the mirrors and headlights would buy you a nice mid-level brand new luxury sedan. E350 anyone?

If I had an extra $1000 lying around I could buy a complete 1996 LT1 out of a Firebird with 45K miles on it, with an Isuzu 5 speed transmission and a comprehensive swap kit for my Fiero. The whole package is less than 30 minutes away from my house, but I am just too short on funds right now.

Hmm. Apparently the 1988 model is the best handling version, but from 1985 onwards the factory starting cheapening up the car and skimping out on some of the cooler shit.

Also, I wonder how much an LT5 would cost...

Yeah, I own an '85. It's not so bad, still get some early niceties like the in the headrest speakers. There aren't very many mechanical changes from year to year until '88 when it actually became the car it was supposed to be. In any case, if you watch old reviews from when the '84 model came out, you'll get the idea of what the car needed; more power. The handling was pretty awesome given the suspension layout, and there are some nice aftermarket parts to improve it further.

The LT1 would solve the power problem quite nicely.

Also, a quick google search shows a new-in-crate LT5 going for $7,000, ebay has one going for $7500.

I think the old Stratos is a much better looking car than the new one, but the new Stratos is a bit better looking than the Ferrari.

In other news my girlfriend is finally taking her driving test today. Hopefully she'll pass, she's only been on her permit for something like 2 years.

Anyone know what the average price of a well kept '67 mustang fastback is?

There's one pretty near me that's been gloriously restored and has only got 24,000 miles on the clock, quite frankly, I'm in love. The only problem for me is the price, it's £27k, which would work out to a touch over $41k, and that's a lot of money, I can afford it, but it doesn't help it from being a lot.

I figure I could probably get him down to 25, is it worth me looking around a lot more and waiting or are they generally that sort of price?

It's a little hard to say being in moon-money, but it smells of overpriced to me.

Granted those cars are much MUCH more common in the States, but here that car would go for something around 20 or less I would think. ...Unless I'm just taking out of my ass. Original parts make a classic car valuable - matching engine and body, numbers and all, original color, that kinda stuff not new replacement parts. For $40,000 bucks here you're starting to get into the Boss and crappy Shelby end of things.
