A lot of times my brother comes into town and doesn't have time to play one of the 20+ hour games I own while I'm at work. A 5 or 6 hour game will keep him pretty engrossed while I'm gone, though, and it's cool to be able to share stuff like this with my relatives.
I know, it's just I thought it was coming out....never. Now it's really coming out, and out of nowhere it seems. I've been waiting a long time for it as well.

i signed up for their newsletter back in 2008 or so, and i got my first reply (saying it was back in production) around february 2010, i think
a few months later, production updates started coming hot and heavy
apparently the one guy who was designing the game hired on a couple of other people to help him with the work
the concept art for this is still some of the best i've seen and i would kill for wallpaper-sized versions of it
People whining about the price and length of game must of not played portal. Game don't need to 30 hours long to be good. $15 for 6 hours of what kind of gameplay this is sounds perfect to me.
What they don't show you in the screens and the trailers, and only hint at, is that the protagonist meets a rather gory end, ala Resident Evil, should you make a mistake. That makes this ten times more awesome.
I'm of the opinion that what really made the RE series shine was that they weren't afraid to show your avatar being horrifically maimed and eviscerated when you messed up--it makes dying in the game far more unpleasant, which does all kinds of things to make you subconsciously dread the event. I still get a tingle up my spine when Leon's head rolls off his shoulders as the result of chainsaw to the neck.
That said, I don't know how graphic this game will actually be, seeing it has a teen rating. But I swear I read in an article in Game Informer some months back that this was the case. Since you've played it LewieP, what is your comment on this?

it'll probably be like Heart of Darkness for the PSX
gratuitous gore would cheapen this kind of atmosphere

Yes, I suppose RE wasn't an apt comparison--it was just the first that came to mind. I can't imagine this being too realistically graphic, since that wouldn't jive with the style they're going for. But some crimson splashed across an otherwise bleak landscape, while he silently falls into two pieces or something? Yeah, that would be pretty awesome.
I played this at PAX and met the creator. If anyone deserves success, he does. It's a pretty great game and everyone should buy it if you're even remotely interested in platformers and puzzle games.
Jeesh, between the giantbomb preview vid, ign's video, and gamespot's weekly show, I've seen too much!
Can't not look though.
Even the first trailer sparked a nice conversation about purgatory with the wife. I think this game will really be disturbing for her with the sudden grusome deaths. She freaked out at the shooting sentries in Portal.
I can't wait to play it and show her and have her run through some of it.

the game is only 3 hours long?! well I guess I don't need to buy it anymore and spend the 15 dollars since watching the Giant Bomb quicklook is like half the game
(for 10 dollars I probably would have still done it)
Just posting to show my support for $15 being an okay price point if the game itself delivers. I raise my eyebrows in general when people say something's not worth price X when they haven't even played it, but I can't really make judgment calls, as how people spend money is their own concern.
The 4 color rebellion review quoted six hours for their first playthrough; I think it's entirely contingent on how good you are at cracking out the puzzles. I know with Braid, some of those worlds I was able to run through quickly, but World 5 with the shadow Tims and such had me staring at the screen for half-hours at a click just trying to figure out what to do.

Worth it to me.

It's not like you need people in a thread that aren't me, anyway.
All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
Have you played it yet? I would be interested in you telling me more things about how this game is fucking incredible.

I love it already and haven't even played it yet.
After watching the initial trailer I'm trying so hard to avoid any other previews until I get my hands on the game.

I don't really see what the problem is with a minimum 3 hours play time.
The best comparison.
