I got my cd. It was amusing that several of the songs are very familiar, and yet a couple are totally unfamiliar and awesome. I also revised the CD I was creating at the last minute, because it was going to include some Muse, but it appears my CD partner is already a Muse fan!

Well, that arrived much quicker than I thought it would given previous experiences of sending stuff to the states.
Hope you like it. It's all a bit random and just a kind of general mix of stuff I like.
Clownfood hasn't responded since he said he'd listen to my CD on the way to work. I can only assume at this point that he was rocking out so hard, he lost control of his vehicle and died in an awesome fiery explosion.
God speed Clownfood. May we all go as spectacularly as you.

Somehow I came through the other side of the epic rockout that was inspired by Tofys's CD. I think I am scarred in a few places (mentally and physically) but all in all, I am now a better man. Stronger, wiser, forged from a material not readily found in the Pacific Northwest. I do walk with a limp now though. Not sure how that occurred.
Should we post track listings of what we got from our CD barter buddy?
You can if you want, not a bad idea. Alternately, if you don't want too, just post your favorite or least favorite tracks. Share what you loved, and what you didn't. Music is subjective.
There were some old familiar tracks waiting for me on the CD, but a lot of really new stuff. Song's like Fugazi's 'Waiting Room', and The Lemonheads 'Rudderless' were old friends really, tracks I listened to in my teenage years that I always enjoyed.
But any real familiarity ended there, as I was confronted with at least 17 other tracks, most from bands I'd never even heard of. I certainly enjoyed some tracks more than others, but I didn't dislike any of the songs.
I think by far, my favorite was 'Quiet Little Voices' by We Were Promised Jetpacks. Easily the most upbeat song on the whole compilation, and I couldn't help tap my foot to this one.
The one that really grew on me was 'They made frogs smoke 'til they exploded' by Mum. It starts off so quirky, and I didn't care for it at first, but for whatever reason, it really grew on me. It's quirky, but damn catchy.
'Streetwalker' by Delta Spirit was also a great track - True story, I was in a Barnes & Noble, and a Delta Spirit song came on 'Strange Vine', and I loved this song, and immediately bought it on my iPhone. I never listened to another track on the whole album. I think it's high time I bought the damn album.
'Ain't no easy way' by Black Rebel Motorcycle Club also gets an honorable mention. I love the blues though, so no surprise there. Also, 'Snow Brigade' by Mew was pretty kick ass track. I've been putting it on repeat, and it's growing on me.
I can say that this CD will get a nice rotation in my iTunes list.
man, music. you can listen to days worth of music and still speak a foreign language to other music people
which basically supports the idea that musical taste is the last true form of self expression in a consumerist society
I probably don't believe that

the cd i got included a number of bands I have never heard of. I have to say though, I am going to be looking for more from "The Faint" and "Joy Electric." Ozma has been growing on me slowly. But I think I am going to dig it.
The J-Rock was cool, but kinda sucks that I don't understand the lyrics. I might have one of my friends translate it.
overall, an extremely entertaining set of songs. muchas gracias.
lol, I don't understand them for the most part either, other than what little I still remember from my Japanese classes long ago. I mostly just dig them for the guitar shredding and stuff.
Translations of those songs are here. SHINE Nagai Ai Nagereyuku hibi Brotherhood.
I just pulled "They made frogs smoke 'til they exploded" up on youtube. Man, I love this. Fits really well into some of the quirkier stuff I like sometimes.

NOW I KNOW WHY THEY SOUND FAMILIAR! "We have a map of the piano." That's on one of my playlists, but I'd never gotten around to looking into more! Mmmmm.
I just got my CD from Tav in the mail, and by looking at the names of the songs and bands, I can tell it's gonna be pretty fuckin' metal.
By the way... Tav, you never posted what you thought of the mix I made you.
Oh shit, my bad. I coulda sworn I did.
The more dancy stuff I wasn't really a fan of (Imma looking at you, dj TAKA) however I am loving Yoko Kanno. I have no idea how I didn't look into her stuff more after loving the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack. On Melancholy Hill is defintely making me think that I didn't give the new Gorillaz album the time it deserved, and I still mega-loathe Radiohead :P
Overall it's a pretty awesome mix of stuff I would probably never listen to normally. Whaddya think of mine?

I've only listened to half of it and then I got a computer virus that required a 4-hour full scan of my computer.
So I'm kind of wanting to play some Starcraft 2 a little before listening to the rest of it, in case your CD is what gave my computer the virus.
:P
EDIT: If I'd known you were a more metal person, I would have left the electronic stuff off and put more rock selections on. Did you find the Amon Tobin interesting? He's got a pretty broad range - Bricolage is pretty jazzy, for example, while Supermodified is a lot more industrial.

SIG, like your mix so far. Do you have a tracklist anywhere handy? I don't recognize some of this stuff.
I'll be more thorough with my thoughts later once I've listened to it all.
I thought I wrote a list and sent it!
I saw the CD case that had the CD and post it note on it, the envelope with the letter in it, and the Rogue coaster, but I never saw a list.
I guess it's possible that it fell out as I was opening it, though, without me noticing. Right after work I'm not exactly working at 100%.

So review:
The CD is pretty solid. Most of it I was unfamiliar with, but there were a couple old friends like Miles David and Nina Simone, Less Than Jake and Nine Inch Nails.
A couple definite highlights were Pete Yorn and a song I now listen to on the way to work every morning by Anamanaguchi.
The Royksopp was a pleasant surprise.
Honorable mention for The HorrorPops and their song which I didn't initially like but have found it growing on me like a fungus on my brain.

The sender only includes his real name, not his PA name, so I have no idea who I should be thanking.
The person who you sent yours too, thats who sent you yours.

Having sent mine out the same day I got his, you'd think I'd have recognised the name or address
As promised, your bonus song. It would have been on the CD if I was paying attention to your address when I made the CD.

Edit: Let me know what you like and don't like. I threw in a bit from all the stuff I listen to, from indie rock to power metal.
I haven't heard any of this before, but I must say I'm enjoying it quite a bit.
Yeah, it's not as mixed as yours, featuring only 4-5 bands, but I hope you like it. Glad you like Flaming Lips.
Only listened to the first few soundtracks, but so far, I'm digging this. Also, it has some Delta Spirit on it, which is awesome. And Fugazi!
I'll give later impressions once I've listened to the whole thing, but so far, i'm diggin' it.

I look forward to listening to it once I return to the Americas.
Also I am terrible person but I will send VH his cd this week. I have the mix ready I just need to actually prepare it and mail it.
