Component Cables for the Wii?

DarlanDarlan Registered User regular
As I understand it, people say that you should get the cheapest HDMI cables you can find because there's no difference in quality with a digital signal like that; either it works or it doesn't. However, the same doesn't true for component cables, right?

I'm going to be purchasing a Wii pretty soon here and would like to minimize how shitty it looks on my tv without paying a ridiculous price for cables. Can anyone recommend some? Any ones to avoid in particular?

Thanks!

Yeah same here, got em from monoprice.com. Works perfectly and they are way cheaper than what you can get from Best Buy etc.

When it comes to cables, monoprice is the first stop anyone should make.

I don't know anything about what monoprice is, but my advice is to get the first party component cables made by Nintendo. I bought a third-party cable at first and though the quality was fine, after a while the screen would black out for a second or two every now and then, which made me think my launch unit was beginning to suffer from video chip rot. After spying the Nintendo cables at a store for very cheap I picked up them and voila, the problem was gone.

That's because you don't know what Monoprice is.

That's right, I don't. I'm across the pond so to speak, so the only retailer I can think of with regards to cables is Maplins.

Ah, Maplins. Every time I enter that store, Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies plays in my head...

I notice monoprice also has a/v switches and routers and such. Are those at a good price also, or is it just their cables that are so wonderful?

Pretty much everything is well priced. They use magic.

Their switches are ok, I bought an HDMI one on sale.

I also bought the Wii Monoprice component cables and they work well enough and are sturdy.

I have the GameStop branded component set and it works just fine. Just make sure only one console is using the set of cables at a time. It's obviously more expensive than monoprice, but I don't have any experience with their Wii component cables.

I received my cables from monoprice. The 480 resolution is still...a 480 resolution, so I'm glad I didn't spend too much on these, but it is a noticeable improvement. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

There's a setting you have to change in the options menu to get the progressive scan enabled, isn't there?

It also depends on the game, some are good quality others are not.

Zelda TWP is a good one.
