It's one Lagi after another with a minute or so break in between in the water arena (use that time to gather Mega Potions, Lifepowders, and/or EZ Flash Bombs from gathering points around the arena). There's also a Dragonator, but good luck getting Lagi to stay in place long enough to hit him without a shock trap or incredibly lucky sleep/paralysis.


As for lances... [WARNING: INCOHERENT WALL OF RAMBLY TEXT THAT PROBABLY WON'T ACTUALLY HELP MUCH]

(Assuming CC1 controls)

Counter a lot (A while blocking (R)). It lets you block incoming attacks AND immediately does an automatic powerful attack that can combo into normal stabs. Unless you're underwater because if a monster uses an attack with current, you'll get hit either by the current or by the attack (countering only works on one hit). And don't counter EVERYTHING, because there are plenty of situations where countering will miss and/or leave you wide open for a follow-up attack from behind. Those you'll just have to learn through experience because blargh.

If you can't/shouldn't counter, block.

If you can't block (not really an issue with Agna armor, see below), GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY.

Don't charge unless the monster's far away and you know it won't turn around and bite your face off. mts will tell you it's a good way to deal damage if the monster's immobilized, but he's lying. STOP LYING, MTS. If you have a status effect the charge is a pretty good way to deal it PROVIDED the first hit procs. Otherwise you're just wasting tons of sharpness and doing shit damage. The first hit of the charge does do okay damage, and the finisher is the most powerful lance attack, but the rest do a pitiful 10% RAW and .25 multiplier on element or .5 multiplier on status.

Upward stabs (A) do more than forward stabs (X), but forward ones move you forward a bit more. The third stab in the combo does more damage than a normal forward OR upward, and does that same boosted amount of damage regardless of which stab you use. You can combo either stab into either (A, X, A is just fine). After a three-stab combo (or any time during it, if you're so inclined), you can chain into another combo with a counter. If you decided to try and get in one more poke and all of a sudden you've got an angry monster maw barreling toward your juicy head, your best bet is to chain into a counter. Even if you can't couner the hit, you'll still block it instead of taking a full-on face-munch.

Get Agnaktor armor, it reduces health/stamina loss when blocking, sometimes to the point where you can counter attacks that would previously knock you back (Guard+1/2). It also lets you block some unblockable attacks like Agna's LAZOR (Guard Up).

You can move forward while blocking. This lets you recover stamina while still shielded and allows some (reeeeealy slow) movement. You can quickly jump forward WHILE blocking and moving by pushing X. This can be a very helpful move, especially against projectiles. If you're hit by a non-stupidly strong attack while shield advancing (That block+forward+X move), not only will you not suffer any knockback from the attack, but you'll only lose the stamina from the advance (one roll's worth), rather than the full brunt of the attack. It's still better to counter if you're close up (and it's an attack you can counter with your current Guard+ level or lack thereof), but if you're further away you're better off advancing. One especially noteable thing is that most projectiles will dissipate upon hitting your shield, meaning (if you're in the right place at the right time) you can shield-advance to save your friends from, say, a Barioth tornado.

One problem with the shield advance is that it has a large cool down period before you can do anything. However, if you mash X while you're doing it (there's probably a more delicate way to time it, but fuck that shit), you will do a shield bash that does a bit of impact and KO damage and takes you immediately out of the blocking stance. You can ALSO keep mashing X to chain into a horizontal stab, and that can chain, as usual, into an upward stab, a counter, etc.

THAT ENOUGH FOR YOU

There will be a test on this next class. I expect you to have memorized all of this.

to add to the charge info, the last attack where you hit x to get out of the charge is a money shot too so make sure that that hits as well.

Had some event fun last night.

Did the flooded forest free for all which is surprisingly easy. lagi armor + fire

Sea Power which is not bad with 4 people

Rage Match which gets fucking nuts if you don't kill the first Jho before the second. To add to that we wound up getting an extra large jho for number 2. it was fun.

The event sunglasses are pretty cool, but now I can't choose between wearing them, my badass eyepatch or my pimpin' Guild Bolero. Choices, choices.

Also I got all the offline arena quests done to some degree or other and I'm slowly coming round to the Lance, I'm not very good at it but the counter move is insane. The ability to just straight up block into a combo is awesome. However I think that instead of lancing with Agna armour as is usual I'll try lancing with Barioth if I can gem in Guard+. I think the combination of guard and evade+ should be pretty killler.

The sunglasses really work with the leather stuff. I have it with the black leather pants and hellhunter jacket, and it looks pretty rad. However the problem is that that's the whole set of armor. You're missing the waist and arms, because for some reason they didn't make a belt or leather gloves. If you get the vangis wrestling belt it works pretty well, but I'm still trying to find good gloves.

Well it took my 15 Alatreons but I finally found an Azure Dragongem.

In fact I found two.

So I've made the Escadora blademaster set and even managed to gem in Evade+2, just can't get rid of Recovery Down until I find an Evade+6 gem with two slots. And once I get some funds back up I'll look into making the Agnaktor set and using my second gem on the Alatreon Gleam.

i dunno, evade +1 is pretty good still. I honestly can't really tell too much of a difference when i get evade+2

Well yes but not all my weapons have slots, and I cba moving decorations around whenever I swap weapons. And Recovery Down is not all that awful a skill anyway, an annoyance at worst.

The Agnaktor set is neat, you never need to evade ever again. The enemy is charging up a mega doom beam of death? Stand in its face, poke it a bunch, and block at the last moment.

hey guys, this morning, at 3 am, i tried to kill my first Ala. I won! hurray! WOOT! and such. btw, ala plates? they seem to not be as rare as rathalos plates. i got like 8 or 9 in 2 hunts. 6 on the first.

Plates are just shells/scales for ala, his unique gem is calle dthe azure dragon gem and its quite rare.

In the last 2 hours I finished my 4 star urgent,got a deviljho talon,crushed a tiny uragaan,upgraded my rathian armor to high rank defense,and got 3-4 missions done. I'm one happy dude. 8-)

This game really over-demands Lagia sapphires. I've found one and need four more just to complete the weapons I want. Now I find out they're needed for most Alatreon armor pieces too. Would it be too much to ask that I get to hunt something else for ultra-rare bits?

Anyway, had three or four truly excellent Sabrex hunts today. Only got one or two tusks, but it was fun simply operating as a well-oiled angry-kitty-smashing-team.

I've also had this weird urge to play more MH2. I probably shouldn't give in.

well you should use a fire lance on Gr. Baggi.

AS far as Lagia saphires go, it's funny. i got one the very first time i fought a HR lagi and didn't get another one until i went on lagi fest to get the rising soul LS.

you need them for upgrading ancient/rust weapons too.

You only need 1 Lagia sapphire for Alatreon armour; for the legs. You need basically 1 of every 'ruby' to make the ala set: Rathian ruby for the helm, Azure Dragongem for the Chest, Rathalos ruby for the arms, Uragaan ruby for the waist and Lagia sapphire for the legs.

I do feel that they've upped the material requirements for making stuff in this game. On the PSP you'd never be asked for 6+ Amber Tusk equivalents, it was usually 5/6 scales and shells then maybe one rare item.

G.Baggi is not hugely difficult with any fire weapon, he fights exactly the same as G.Jaggi but is more likely to bite at you if you are beside him, a blocking weapon is advisable but far from necessary.

pfff blocking is not needed for baggi.

you need the event fire lance. its a beast. stays sharp way longer than a lot of my LS's

ooooooooorrrrrrrrrrr, you could get a group of hand picked hr 50+ end game suited guys to bodyguard you while you beat on monsters. haha, i think the best moment I've had was me and two other high rank dudes helping out a first timer with g.jaggi... basically, we didn't want to help him too too much and leave him unexperienced or whatever ( i didn't think it was a problem but hey ) so we'd only enter the area when he pinged (ie. got hit). One guy'd drop a smoke bomb, one guy had a set that had like stealth - and jaggi went to him, and i (i thought it was dumb (still totally fun) and i didn't want to waste smoke bombs or make a new set) just knocked him over.

No kidding. I'm tempted to look into importing it, though dunno if I would want to burn out before it made it stateside.
