I really love this but all I can think is that I would love it more if Mike drew it. There's a bit more flow that comes from Mike and Jerry sitting and writing together that these guest projects haven't quite hit for me. It's never unclear in a Penny Arcade comic which direction you need to read it, and pauses in dialogue are always telegraphed extremely well. While I am loving the shit out of this and can't fault Gary's writing - Carl especially is just exactly the same character as when he was originally written - it's just a little hard to read and it spoils it ever so slightly.

like I said, the dialog structure in the first was kinda wonky, but this one is much clearer

I really like how Carl looks in panel 5. I don't know why, he just looks really cool.
Also, I am really digging the guest artist(s?) here. I really can not wait to see how the rest unfolds. I'm with Rank, I could easily see myself paying for an Automata book/printed comic series/whatever.

On the first read, I missed the first bubble and went immediately to to one at the top of the page. That and the odd tacked-on feeling of 'it's Carl' to the ninth panel (I would have put it in its own panel) are what I'm talking about. It's minor, but it breaks the flow, for me. If I'm reading a comic and I start thinking about what I would have done instead of the comic itself then it draws me out of it. It's one of the reasons I read PA, because it's so fluid, which makes it all the more jarring when I see it on their website.

not that I didn't enjoy Friday's comic but the layout was a little confusing, today's really improves on that and it's much more readable
The layout is much easier to follow this time around, too.
They're just BEGGING for a robot uprising at this point
Edit: Loving this arc, by the way.
Goddamn.
apparently one of the guest artists was sick, but he got the job done anyways.

Yeah, this is turning into something I could see myself reading a whole lot of.
i'd buy it!
I'd follow it for sure.
Edit: Hell, what pony said. I'd buy it!
