Adventure Vacation destination?

Hey.
I was going to do the Inca trail. Except I couldn't plan my vacation well enough in advance and now i'm hosed on getting a trail permit. I'm looking to go abroad, for 6-7 days not counting travel time. Anyone have suggestions for great hiking/kayaking based trips?

    How about the far South of Argentina / Chile? That's the other big hiking/climbing/camping destination in South America.
