Windows Live Messenger - New window lag

Ok this happened to me over a year ago, and never fixed it. I resorted to formatting my computer, but now it's happening again and this time let's see if someone knows what the hell is going on.

If a new chat window opens up, my MSN will freeze for about 10 seconds. Nothing I can do to it in the meantime. If I open up a window it's the same thing, and if it's in focus, the chat window will show up just blank, and then finally load the whole interface.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, same problem. Uninstalled MSGPLUS same problem. MSN freezes when I start it up as well.

It is really annoying having a conversation freeze because someone else sends me a message.

Edit:

A few specs:

C2D 3.6Ghz
4GB RAM
30GB free on C:
Windows 7 x64 Professional

Live Messenger 14.0.8117.416

Clicking on the custom emoticons button hard locks MSN indefinitely. I guess this is a clue, anyone know where the cache is stored or something?

    I deleted everything in

    C:\Users\Momo\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Messenger\(my email address)

But the problem persisted, even if I don't have any custom emoticons anymore.

I can't be sure of what is slowing down your messenger but perhaps give the Beta try?

Also Messenger Plus, my experiences with it years ago, tended to break things often.

Had been running fine for almost 2 years now, this problem just suddenly showed up.

When the window freezes, there are no spikes in HDD or CPU activity, everything just keeps on working normally, except for MSN being stuck for a few seconds.
