What this thread is for:
- Asking for co-commentary partners / group. As it may be hard to make this happen, I decided to allow for it here.
- Asking for technical help or feedback on test videos / testing post formats. That's a big part of the purpose of this thread, don't be afraid to ask. Just check the support section first.
- Providing general feedback, information, and / or techniques for making an LP and resources used in making LPs.
- Getting forumer LP's added to the list, old or new, and updating their status accordingly. This is not just for G&T; this is forum-wide, so SE++ stuff has a home here too. See below for instructions on how to do this.
- We now also support stream channels here. If you run a stream channel, follow the guidelines for adding regular LP's to the list. People running stream channels are free to use this thread to announce when they are starting a broadcast.
- Discussing LPs from other sources on the web. Because there's some good stuff out there.
- With regard to the list of stuff from beyond the forum; this list is something I'll maintain at my discretion, depending on the general discussion people have about 'em. If I see that something is popular (or just watch something myself), I'll add it. But feel free to make requests (just don't push too much on it).
What this thread is NOT for:
- Discussing any of the LPs in our list; they have their own threads for a reason.
- I'm going to make the point here that nobody here has to like every LP our community produces. However, because we are indeed a community, I expect criticism to be a step above the normal "it sucks" or "it's shit" attitudes. If you're providing negative feedback about someone's LP, be constructive about it and do not argue with the maker. If it starts to come to that, be the bigger person and simply step away. Help your community improve on things, don't just shit all over it.
- Side-stepping talking shit about a forumer's LP or a forumer outside their thread. No drama. Don't be a dick.
- I never expected this rule to be violated but it was, and I'm not very damn happy about it. Remember that our general rule on the forum is to not be a dick. If anyone is being one, the mods will be notified.
- Newly registered users pimpin' their LP's or accounts.
- This isn't to cut you out completely, but this thread is for people who take time with our community; if you want in, you have to be a member of the community, to be determined by me (the list keeper). Additionally, registering to pimp your stuff and walking away from the community is site whoring, which is an actual hard rule we have here.
- Complaining about Retsupurae being too "mean." They're not, but if you don't like 'em, then just don't watch. The rest of us will have a good time watching stuff they produce.
- Asking for a subforum for Let's Plays here. After some demand I went to Tube myself and made the case for having a subforum. He returned to me with an answer of no, but he digs the idea of this thread. So help me improve on things as needed.
As Tube would put it, be excellent to each other.
How to add things to the list:
There are two things you should be PM'ing me about for updating the thread; adding a new entry to the list, and updating the status of one. Below are what's needed for each one (this makes my life easier).
- If PM'ing me with to add a new entry...
- The title of the PM must read: LP Archive Update
- The body of the PM must contain the full name of the game, the forumer behind the project, the format (video, screenshot, hybrid), and the URL to the thread.
- If the LP is already completed upon submission, note its status to me. Otherwise it will be in progress.
- The URL must be to the thread, not to the post. This saves me text space overall. Look at the end of the URL to see if you have it right; showthread.php?t=102474 vs. showthread.php?p=11880134#post11880134
- If PM'ing me with a status update to an entry...
- The title of the PM must read: LP Archive Status
- The body simply has to include the full name of the game and the status it needs to be changed to.
- If the status is going to yellow or orange (hiatus / on hold, or abandoned) feel free to give whatever brief description of why. This isn't necessary but it can help prevent questions from being asked repeatedly.

Chrontendo -- atat23 brought this to our attention. It isn't exactly Lets Play material, but it's cool enough that I think it needs to be shared. The guy behind this project is playing through all NES games, in chronological order, giving brief rundowns of what the games were like and noting their flaws and perks. Each episode contains a chunk of games from a certain date range. At the time of this link being added, the latest episode features Super Mario Bros. 3 at the end.

Making a Let's Play

Before you make a Let's Play, be sure the following is true for you:
I have plenty of free time to see this through.
I am knowledgeable and/or skilled at the game, or I'm actually funny.
I may suck at the game but I'm at least funny enough to not make this a torturous experience.
Community Involvement:
Don't ask for a Retsupurae treatment to your LPs. First of all, it looks tacky. Second, leave the shtick to the Retsupurae guys. It's their thing. If you want a gag track on your LP, have people with you from the start to help you with post commentary.
Picking a Game:
When you pick a game to do an LP, tell us about it. Tell us why you picked it, tell us about the game. The more obscure the game, the more inclination you should have to introduce it to people. This isn't a rule to doing LPs here, but it's a suggestion that only nets positive results.
Take your game genre into consideration. We don't want to watch all your random battles in a JRPG, and sure as fuck don't want to see your level grinding.
Don't LP a game that is new. Give new games a couple months past the initial launch before you LP it. I can't enforce this as a rule. Think of it as a request. Give people a chance to experience the game themselves, let the game get soaked up by most people. LP's aren't a race; if you feel the need to be the first person to LP a game, something is wrong with you (word to the wise, you don't actually gain internet fame for being the first). This is also a quality-assurance checkpoint. If you want, you can be like Helloween and do your LP whenever you please and make the thread for it after some time has passed.
Don't fucking LP I Wanna Be The Guy. It has been beaten to death and most people who play it fucking suck. If you want to be the guy, be the bigger guy and not LP it. joshofalltrades if officially our Guy, he's done it.

So hey the other thread didn't hit 100 pages quite yet but uh, in the interest of avoiding being possibly screwed for the next month, I made the thread already.
There's guidelines now for getting things updated or added.
The "making" section hasn't been updated yet; it's still sitting on my end unfinished. It's gonna be know as the Support section though. Again, thanks to the folks who've provided me info I needed to get it really rolling. Still trying to compress things but I can handle it.
Hopefully the general format of the "OP" (three posts) makes things a little easier to get right down to and see. I know it helps ME out tons.
