And it still didn't. It's better than it was though.
I've literally seen lines like that 3 or 4 times now across updates. They even swtiched to saying things like "Steam's online mode really fixed this time."
Except for the time when I couldn't play any of my Steam games for six months because I didn't put it in offline mode before moving someplace where I didn't have internet for awhile (that was awesome), offline mode has always worked well for me. It was always so flaky and then at one update or another it just started working near flawlessly.
What happens for the unlucky people who it doesn't work for? Does it not let you go into offline mode, or does it say you constantly say you need to update games online or something, or do games crash (Mount and Blade is the only thing I've tried that was unplayable in offline mode)?
Anyone played Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes? The description sounds promising:
Grotesque Tactics* combines the features and clichés of Western and Asian console RPGs like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics and provides a highly addicting and entertaining change to the current, more serious role playing games.
*In chess, a Grotesque is a problem or endgame study which features a particularly unlikely initial position, especially one in which White fights with a very small force against a much larger black army. Grotesques are generally intended to be humorous.
I do not foresee high sales for this game. Might be interesting nonetheless.

The videos make it look like it's Battle Chess meets Warcarft III. Meh.
Even as someone who is a sucker for anything with "Tactics" in the title, I do not feel compelled to buy that game. I was interested having read a text-only description of it, but after seeing the video I'm not all that interested any more.
If you haven't seen it yet, it's 50% off Blacklight Tango Down.
Which would be awesome, if Blacklight Tango Down didn't use Games for Windows Live
Since it's a pure multiplayer experience, I refuse to partake in it's bullshit
Back when I played it, at launch, there were barely any people playing the PC version. Also, if I recall correctly, the only form of chat was voice chat, none of this "write words with your keyboard" malarkey, or at least I never figured out how to communicate with text and neither did anyone else.
I was also absolutely aghast at the way you connect to games. You go into this lobby thing, then it waits until there's enough people, and only after that it starts up the game. This process could take several minutes and to add to the insult once the game started, new players were unable to join and made for all sorts of team balance issues for the team that was getting owned in the face. It was just all around horrible. That sort of system works for some genres, like RTSs, but not for shooter.
The actual shooting bits of the game weren't that bad. Guns shot where you wanted them to and that's nice. Level design was poop, though.

When I couldn't crouch because I had bound it to 'X' which was incidentally the same key the game coded to cycle between players in spectator mode, which required .ini hacking to fix, I knew the quality of the game I was working with and promptly uninstalled it. It's a good thing I didn't actually paid money for it otherwise I would've been pretty pissed.
The developers should learn from real PC versions and not ports, like for example Modern Warfare 2 with its graphics settings and mouse control and text chat and stuff.

Too bad, really. Those digi-grenades were pretty cool, and I liked the customization and aesthetic
I just noticed Mass Effect 2 is now only $20 on Steam.
...bought. And the DLC bought too.
Sweet.
Interesting. It's still $70 over here.
Fucking rip off.
Fairly soon you'll be able to buy/import the GOTY edition for next to nothing anyway. Retail Dragon Age + expansion + all DLC is going for £18 as a pre-order price right now, and I'd imagine they want to get the Mass Effect 2 one out before Christmas.

For me, it's not a PC game unless you have to dig through tons of .ini files and program in all your exact specifications. This love started with Red Alert and it's damned easy to edit rules.ini

"Steam's offline mode now works correctly"
And it still didn't. It's better than it was though.
It has a lot to do with luck too
it works fine for a lot of people, but doesn't work at all for another lot of people.
