Hax0ring a game to make it even more fun is awesome and I approve wholeheartedly.

Hax0ring a game to make it just work properly for you because the developers are yahoos is decidedly less awesome, I think.

Where are the comments on Doc Clock, Polynomial, Big Brain Wolf and Grotesque. I noticed a few comments on Grotesque but I figured one of you would take the plunge and see how good or bad it is. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm about to find out how much they fucked up Gothic 4.

The current Steam client beta includes an indication that Steam will do some kind of screenshot management. The file \Steam\Public\steamui_english.txt includes this:
    "Steam_Screenshots" "Recent Screenshots"
    "Steam_ViewAllScreenshots"	"View All Screenshots"
    "Steam_ViewSingleScreenshot"	"View Full Size Screenshot"
    "Steam_MoreScreenshots" "+%morescreenshots_notshown%"

If it's going to include screenshot hosting it would make sharing screenshots in the TF2 thread slightly easier, as you wouldn't have to host them elsewhere.

According to the Steam forums, there is a demo for Grotesque here. It's in German, but you can apparently change the language to English by editing a couple of .xml files in the settings folder. I haven't tried it yet though, so I can't confirm that it works.

What issues to do people have with offline mode? I've literally never had a problem and use it all the time (its on the wife's laptop and she uses it to play a few different games in offline mode on a regular basis.

Great. I start up Squarelogic and notice that all my settings/saved puzzles are gone. Exit out - steam cloud syncs the wiped savestate to the steamcloud.

Goddamnit where did it go. No other clients were ever connected to steam

Mailed the devs my steam save file, they said on the forums they can restore it based on their server stats.

I assume it occured because I accidentally tried to launch 'Squarelogic DEMO' from the Steam tray icon right click menu. It didn't launch anything (as retail replaced the demo installation) but probably wiped the stats.

yeah I should have turned that shit off.

I've heard other people saying that their progress was wiped, and I doubt that they accidentally run the demo.

I'm sorry in advance if this has been asked and/or answered.

I'm upgrading from XP to 7 in a few days, but I just bought Borderlands today. The download is pretty big, as you probably know, and my speed isn't the best - can I just copy the files to my new windows install? Obviously I'd put it, you know, in the right folder and all, but does it work, or does it need to be properly installed through steam to work?

You can copy the files over just fine. Steam will probably spend some time verifying them the first time you run the game, but it'll work.

There is an option to save it locally. If you right-click on the game, it says something like "Backup Game Files..." Click on that, and you'll save it to you HDD to be transferred.

    Sweet.

Interesting. It's still $70 over here.
    Fucking rip off.

Fairly soon you'll be able to buy/import the GOTY edition for next to nothing anyway. Retail Dragon Age + expansion + all DLC is going for £18 as a pre-order price right now, and I'd imagine they want to get the Mass Effect 2 one out before Christmas.

I doubt it. They haven't even finished releasing DLC for it yet

The Polynomial is a 3D spaceflight music game with abstract, mathematically generated scenery and models which are set to the music of your choice. You fly around in a very strange universe, shoot the enemies, meet and protect the friends, collect bonuses, fly through wormholes, and so on, all while rocking out to the music.

Ngggggh that sounds like the coolest thing ever and it looks awesome

I'm gonna try it out when I get home tomorrow

It's really not much of a music/rhythm game though, it's just a game that happens to let you choose your own soundtrack. The colors pulse in time with the music, I guess, but otherwise it's just a game where you fly around and shoot stuff? I don't know, it was extremely pretty but I think I'm going to pass on it as well.

He really needs to treat Polynomial as a tech demo and create an X3-style open ended space sim with decent combat, and lots of pretty stuff to explore and discover.

Abstract graphics would work well for a space sim.

I play a lot of LoL, and the stuff where it says DOTA 2 is just Dota completely transferred over seems very worrisome. I never played DotA, but have read about many of the changes that Riot did when preparing LoL, and a lot of them have to do with good game design vs. older school frustrating game design. Riot seems to have the same idea as Valve generally does, with player fun coming first. Much like how TF2 took the basic idea of old team fortress, distilled it to the most fun aspects and purified it I think League of Legends has been aiming for that.

A direct port, no matter the community features will have problems ahead of it, both in old community transfer (why play this when the old is free?) and in adding new community. The DotA style is not newbie friendly, but LoL has done a pretty good job of making it so, with tiered leveling, slowly introducing new summoner spells, and a basic tutorial.

DOTA kind of makes me sick since it reminds me of all the stinking turret defense maps I had to download in Starcraft to get the one I wanted with heroes. Its not that I mind the gameplay, its just I hate remembering how I had to hunt for it and how they all had similar names.

Gimme a DOTA clone with scifi and sprites and I will sign up.

Back on topic, I am on a rather bland laptop and I am dling HL in about a minute and xcom shortly after that. I need me some HL mods quickly. Single player and fun.
