Saw this game on CheapAssGamer's forums. I guess Amazon had a short restock for 35 bucks, but now they are selling it for 50 something from a third party seller?
What's the difference between Continue and Begin with memories?
I'm pretty sure the "begin again with memories" option is just for people who realize they made a wrong choice and are going to get one of the same endings they got before, so they don't have to sit all the way till the end to restart the game.
No, beginning again with memories allows you to see which choices you've already made. They'll be greyed out (but still selectable) when you run into them again.

So will continue if you press it once you've finished the game.

Begin With Memories is New Game, sort of - you start over from the beginning, but the game remembers what you've done so far.
Friend of mine gave me his fully complete copy for Christmas, along with the Bracelet watch, I'm working through my second playthrough now after getting
Knife Ending
also I have to find replacement screws for my watch. The band was really loose, with the blue tubes slipping out from the watch section, so I went to take it apart, set them back in place, and put it back together.
When apparently I had the screw set wrong and the sheer pressure of it's improper angle and the force of the screwdriver broke the head of the screw right off
EDIT: Also am I gonna run into some Supernatural Crap going down?
Cause so far it's still in the realm of the natural and I'm kinda hankering for some Realm of the Bizarre as Hell Supernatural shit going down.

there's a lethal virus going around, one of the characters is immortal because of a disease, and at some point a different character drowns, saves everyone while drowned, and then dies. Also, time paradox.
Compared to that, 999 is completely believable.
That's pretty much not it at all.
999 is a poor man's Ever17. It's good, but it reuses a whole lot of the same concepts and plot twists that Ever17 had already done better.
I just finished 999 today, and it's kind of amazing how true this is, right down to
the grandfather paradox set-up.
I do think 999 is better in terms of streamlining the narrative though, hurf durf tag/chicken sandwiches.
I'd like to play Ever17, but the terribly cliched animu artstyle is turning me off a bit. But if it's really better than 999, I'll give it a go... someday.
On another note, there's an employee working at Aksys who posts in GAF, and according to him 79 questions regarding the plot and ending of 999 were collected and sent to the creators of the game. The answers are apparently pretty mind-blowing, and they'll be up early next week in Aksys's site.
I've gotten four endings so far. I spoiled myself on how to get them but nothing on the actual story so I'm cool. I also opted to get ending #2 anyway despite knowing it's a troll ending because I'm a freakin' completist.
My thoughts on the endings:
Axe:
This one really freaked me out. It literally pops out of nowhere since I never expected Clover to be capable of that. I thought the worst part wasn't Clover's creepy smile or the final twist with her killing Junpei, but Junpei's horrific reaction to Clover dropping the bracelets in front of him. That face just... wow.
Knife:
Eh. Not really that great. Seeing Lotus dead was kind of creepy but the overall thing didn't really do much. Probably my least favorite.
Submarine:
Definitely the saddest, mainly because of the scene where June/Kanny dies in Junpei's arms. The whole final scene plays in a REALLY tense fashion, and it leads to an horrific outcome. Showing everyone dead first and then not showing the killer did feel like a copout, but it's not hard to realize the truth if you combine what you know from the three bad endings.
Coffin:
Well, this one IS a fake ending so I won't comment much on it. I have a rather obvious idea of who's in the coffin, but I'll wait to play the last ending to see if I was right.
Now I'm going for the Safe and True endings. It's been a great experience so far and I haven't gotten to the meat of the game yet.
I got this and the watch in the mail and out of nowhere my DS backlog has just become absolutely insane. I try not to have more than 1 game going at a time, and try to space out games in a franchise, but right now I am:
In the middle/latter half of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
And sitting, totally shrinkwrapped and ready to go due to holiday sales, I have:
Miles Edgeworth
Professor Layton and The Unwound Future
The World Ends With You
999
and I really, really want Ghost Trick. I'm debating between 999 next and Edgeworth (before Diabolical Box I finished Apollo Justice). Is 999's puzzles similar enough to Layton (Ive read the two compared a lot) that I should play something else in between if I'm all puzzled out?

I uh, fwiw I don't think this game is THAT great
Honestly speaking, I mean, it's good, but it's got a whole host of unavoidable technical flaws that make the game enraging to play
and in all honesty the game doesn't redeem its gameplay failings with it's stellar plot the same way NieR does, because the game's ending gets really ass-pully and kind of deus ex machina-ish at the end
I mean, it works, the plot is still fantastic, but I don't think it's as good as it needs to be to make the pain in the ass that is unlocking all of the endings and all the other bullshit worth it
Also unlike NieR a third-to-half (one of the endings is literally a "trailer" for the real ending) of the endings are really, really bad, pointless, not canon, don't explain the deeper story in any way, and have a lot of different ways to get them (by far the most out of all the endings).
I'm mixed on this game
I mean, it's good, it's really good, but not as good as NieR storyline wise, much worse than NieR gameplay wise, and it's got a bunch of irritating technical issues in addition to the crapshoot that is trying to figure out how to get all the endings
also there's a whole plotline in the game that adds nothing to the final outcome of 999 besides a really stupid, really cheesy payoff that makes you roll your eyes
imo you should play TWEWY first, it's got an arguably better storyline in addition to being one of the funnest DS games ever made
I actually agree. If you have those games, save 999 for a figuratively rainy day. I was red hot with anger over some of the stuff in the game, but it was worth it in the end. That doesn't mean that the fourth playthrough didn't have me sighing all the way through.
Thirded. If you already have 999 there's no rush to play it. TWEWY will take more time and have a higher payoff, so hit that first.
You can probably blast through 999, Layton 3, and Ghost Trick in the space of a weekend each if you've got nothing better to do. (And depending on your aptitude for Layton's puzzles, I guess.)
Eh, shit's a bit of a strong word, but I didn't like TWEWY all that much compared to other people. The overwhelmingly 'hip Japanese' aesthetics splattered all over the whole game turned me off. However, Ghost Trick, 999 and Layton are all pretty short games that would take probably a few days at most, so I'd play TWEWY first.
The World Ends with You is a horrible, horrible game. I love the design, equipment, art style, storyline, characters, music, everything.
But it's a horrible pile of shit to actually play.
It can be. But not always, and not for everyone. Giving Neku some relatively mindless pins and concentrating on the top screen worked pretty well for me.

I never managed to get the whole "doing both screens" thing.. I'd always let the top screen fall on to autopilot.. I tried several times, but I could never get it. I think there was one partner I could nearly cope with doing both, but the other two I didn't even understand..
still managed to complete it tho - I think had it not been for everything else about the game, I would've given up.

I just started playing this game yesterday, and I managed to get ending 2 on my first playthrough. Any tips for getting other endings, or should I just keep playing and figure it out on my own? I think I'll go unlock the rest of the puzzles, since I never went through doors 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, or 9 on my first play through.

To get the bad endings, just go through different doors (especially at the fork where you choose between doors 1, 2, and 6); you're bound to stumble across them that way.
Now that you've gotten ending 2, there should be a video accessible from the main menu that has hints on how to get ending 4. When you get ending 4, you'll get another video pointing you to the true ending.

No plot spoilers:
Getting ending 2 should have given you a preview movie, if you look closely you'll see the route you need to take for one of the good endings. However, it's better to get the bad endings first, since you get extra bits of story, so save that route until you get all endings save for the last two.
Personal suggestion: Pick Door 3 next. (First door is irrelevant)
Haha, that's exactly what I thought! He did bring up how there's a ton of Japanese stories about people stuck in deadly games. Yugi-Oh, Kaiji, Death Game Park, Hunter X Hunter...
This was pretty cool, it clarified a ton of stuff. And that backstory wasn't even hinted at, but it does add an extra layer and explain some things -
Mostly about Ace and Santa. I also like the fact that June has gone rather insane by living the way she has.
What was up with the one question with 'errors'? That was one we really wanted to know about.

really? huh. Must have missed that.
As far as I can recall it's never explicitly stated

I'd say that pretty much sums up ALL of the endings in 999. You're in for quite a ride.
