Using a laptop monitor on a desktop

So, I have a dead laptop (Presario f557wm) with a perfectly good screen (15.4" 1280x800). I want to mount it portrait-style next to my current screen (19" 1280x1024), but with the price of the controller boards I'd be better off just buying a monitor instead.
So far I've found this (~$130 on Digi-Key). Does anything cheaper exist?
