The Secret of Kells, or Brendan and the Secret of Kells, is an absolutely stunning, gorgeous, wonderful, beautiful animated film that was given limited theatrical release across the world earlier last year and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, an honor it absolutely deserved.
It is coming out on DVD and BluRay October 5th!
The film is an absolute callback to - and call to arms to bring back - the glory days of traditional animation. Using hand-drawn craftsmanship and design along with modern compositing technology and animation techniques, Secret of Kells was created by Cartoon Saloon, an Irish company founded by Paul Young and Tomm Moore and was worked on as a labor of love by those two fine upstanding gentlemen for nearly a decade before being completed.
You seriously need to see this movie.
It is so goddamn pretty, and these guys did this at huge expense and risk to themselves and absolutely deserve your financial support, not to mention your adoration and enthusiasm. They run an independent studio and basically financed this film by doing commercials and eating ramen until they could get a few investors to put together enough money to make it happen for a ridiculously small budget.
Seriously. Support these struggling artists. This film has grossed only like $600k as of July of this year, and it absolutely deserves to make a shitload more.

seriously, I have no affiliation with these guys other then the time I met them and they were incredibly nice, sincere dudes who labored for years to make this happen. I'm just a guy who loves great animation, design and folks willing to sacrifice for art they love
