I'll also go out on a limb and suggest Kingdom Hearts 3DS. (It's been announced before, technically, but it'll be the formal one.) Probably one or two other 3DS titles.
I really wouldn't consider FF XIII a failure. It sold pretty well considering the install base of the PS3 in Japan and did ok for an FF game in America.
The rest of their C rate console fare is where SE suffered this gen. Maybe if they put good games on the consoles they would have done better. Shocking, I know.
They have the right of it in the end. Why get similar or slightly bigger numbers in the US on games that cost ten times or more and take years to develop on consoles when you can get similar numbers on handhelds?
I really want a TWEWY sequel or spiritual sequel, but I know that's not coming yet. More handheld remakes for FF5-9 would be really nice. Given square's tendency to announce things very early, we'll probably hear about something that won't be heard from again for 3 years. I wonder if there will be anything from the Eidos branch such as the Tomb Raider reboot that there has been rumors of.

I think it's a safe bet that if S-E ever devoted time to a full blown console remake of a game, it's clear which one they would pick. You get seven guesses to figure out which one.

They could AT LEAST release the games that are still stuck in Japan.
Seiken Densetsu 3 and Front Mission 5 would be some sweet downloadable releases. And what about Before Crisis? We've got like 3 handhelds that use a camera now, so there's no more excuse there.

It's a pity, because Seiken Densetsu 3 was a better game than 2 (aka Secret of Mana) and Front Mission 5 is the best one in the series.

What's funny is that they've only actually developed what...maybe 2 games internally for the HD consoles? FFXIII and Last Remnant. Everything else was published by them but not developed internally.
I don't know, playing FFXII it's hard to see how they went from this to... XIII. It's all been said before so no use bringing it back up but I think when people say 13 failed, it's not talking about the profits.
Well, in my mind, there is a game called FFXIII:The Last Remnant, where you have the world and charecters and side quests of TLR and the fighting/leveling system of FFXIII.
Well, in my mind, there is a game called FFXIII:The Last Remnant, where you have the world and characters and side quests of TLR and the fighting/leveling system of FFXIII.
That game would've been awesome.
Scrap the main of TLR and replace him and I would be all for it.
Rush wasn't all that bad, but compared to every other character in TLR who were radiating awesome, the point is valid.
Not that the battle system in the PC Remake wasn't bad. Then again, the PC version's battle, party, leveling, class, and character systems were completely overhauled/remade for the far better from the 360 seemingly beta version.
Considering it having been a year since Japanese release, should I stop hoping that the Final Fantasy Legend 2 remake will be released in the US?
I'm still pissed we never got Front Mission 5.
Word has been super positive about that game, and if Square had any sense (they don't), they would release it as a PSN game the same week as Evolved (the latter's quality being questionable at this point).
I just hope they don't pull a Wakka/Lulu and just quietly announce how they have a kid or something in the sequel, but that just brings up a lingering fear I have regarding a certain character from Advent Children stealing Cloud's spotlight....
Cue "Final Fantasy VII: End of Compilation", starring Denzel, Marlene, and stealth sections involving Cait Sith.
With Genesis as the bad guy.
And Aerith being revived so she can do a Jesus again.
Everyone dies when a giant meteor made out of belts and zippers crashes into the planet.
Pretty much, although I still insist that the Genesis you saw in Dirge of Cerberus is actually
Weiss, who possessed his corpse.
Of course, whether this eases your fears or not depends on whether you liked Weiss better than Genesis.
Point is, I doubt there will be any poetry spouting from him.
I really hate timeskips that put the main character in the sidelines, but Square has mentioned before that they always want Cloud to be the lead character for FFVII, so that's assuring.
They also said that Sephiroth will always be the main villain, so expect him to show up at least one more time.
I think I might be the only person in the world who didn't really mind Genesis.
I was more upset that they skipped over Sephiroth going nuts.
The more I think about the whole FF7 love triangle, the more I kind of start to hate Aerith.
Basically she feels a bit attracted to Cloud because he reminds her of her old squeeze. She's got a flirty personality so she flirts with him pretty hard for a while. Then she gets to know Tifa, and it's basically obvious to everyone that she's crazy in love with the guy. So faced with a guy who reminds her of someone else but isn't actually that person, and a new good friend who is in love with him but has a really hard time expressing herself, what does she do? She just keeps flirting with him. Blatantly. Right in front of Tifa.
Maybe I'm interpreting things wrong here, but I don't really get the impression that Aerith actually loved Cloud. Yet she still actively fucks with Tifa's relationship with him while acting like she's her pal at the same time.
She comes off as kind of a bitch to me.
I'd like to think that she partly tried to give Tifa a push with the flirting so as to get her to act on her feelings. The most interesting personality trait I found with Aerith is her blunt way of trying to help out her friends.
Two notable examples:
1. The way she tries to get Barret to cheer up in the Gold Saucer after getting chewed out (and punched out) by the people from his hometown.
2. (Crisis Core Spoiler)
how she stubbornly refused to let Zack's friend fix the flower cart Zack made for her, demanding that they wait for Zack to come back
I thought she was a grade A bitch with the 2nd example until it dawned on me about a couple of minutes later.
Oh, and according to Aerith's short story (which isn't quite as well written as Tifa's)
Aerith was the one who brought Tifa into Cloud's subconscious when they both fell in the Lifestream.
She also outwardly states that Tifa is the one who belongs in Cloud's heart, stating that she's jealous but also happy for them.
I tend to think that SE dropped the ball with Aerith. She had a lot of potential, but they threw it out the window for some reason. I always felt that the Kingdom Hearts Aerith was how the character "Should be," instead of this super happy, semi-ditzy flower girl. For that matter I love how Tifa is represented in KH, especially the fact that Sora, Donald and Goofy are terrified of her.
I would have beenr ather disapointed in SE if they had gone the CloudxAeris route. It would have been bad for both characters, especially Cloud, because it would say that he had gone firmly into the "I want to be Zack" land, instead of finding himself. Plus I like it just fr the difference (as Aerith looks so much like a tpical JRPG heroes love interest).
I'm sure the PC version did considerably worse, but I can't find any data on it. It was pushed out with zero advertising or even knowledge for the most part. Folks who played it seemed to prefer it on the PC but meh.
VGChartz is well known for guessing sales, and not using actual data. They'll update it if they get numbers from media create/NPD, but sales that don't chart or aren't released by the publishers are complete guesses.

SE made the pretty bad decision on releasing an unpolished version for the 360 and never advertising the huge overall/remake of its systems that everyone complained about for the PC version - which came out with no fanfare. Most people think it's the same as the 360 version.
Had they waited to polish up the game and released it multi-platform from the start like originally planed and advertised it would have done better. The rushed 360 version was, without any doubt, a beta.
It also had issues being a SaGa team game as in... having tons of complex systems with no in-game documentation from them. A Wiki is necessary for getting the most from the game, pretty much.

That's actually why I like these games so much. RS3 is one of my favourite JRPGs of all time.

Finally. The one reason why I didn't bother playing with the majority of the Chaos characters in the original, and they get around to rectifying that mistake.

I'm weird. Yes.
I loved the hell out of The Last Remnant (PC). I never played the fabled good Romancing Saga 3, but I did enjoy the PS2 remake of the first one. And I played the hell out of Saga Frontier 1 (talk about hidden mechanics, sheesh) and 2 (still one of the best stories in an RPG period) on the PS1.
What's RS3 like anyways? And is it the generation system or do you keep the same characters?
Having not been keeping up on all things FF lately...
WTF is FF Agito XIII? I knew about Versus (we all have) since forever. This one is new to me. It looks like the opposite of Versus in that instead of making an FF set in a "reality-based" world, it's setting one in a standard medieval fantasy version of FFXIII.
Close enough to an rpg thread to ask, was the xenosaga series of games worth playing? I played a bit of episode I but quit and never picked it back up. After dusting off my PS2 I have a mad craving for old RPGs and wondering which ones would be worth my time.

DS is fine. 3DS is ok too.
Why would it? Probably a little too 'big' to be a Downloadable, and it'd be entirely too much effort to make it a full-blown PS360 game.
It's practically destined to hit a handheld.
If I had to guess, if they announce it this year, DS, after that, 3DS.
I want to see people cry over it not being in HD. That's all. :P
I liked III DS a lot and loved IV, so I can't wait to see what another few collaborations could do.
Can't really mess up those two either.

In case you have never played KH2.
SHE PUNCHED A ROOM.
IN THE FACE.
The reason is simple.
Well actually....
But the real crowning moment of awesome was casually lifting a portrait at least 3 times her size and flinging it aside.
Tifa so much.

Also, Sora cuts buildings into multiple pieces. Beating up a single room kinda pales in comparison.

Nah, actually it's a ATB based jRPG for the PSP, and it's shaping up to be the best of the FNC games. (Not that that's saying much...)
