I know this has to be an easy thing and I will feel stupid once I get the answer but!

How do I get sound from my Mac mini to my hd tv? I have an hdmi cable going from the mini to the tv. The picture is great but I have no idea how to to get sound to go through the cable and out of the tv. Halp? Hearts!

Sound probably isn't supported through the HDMI. Does it have an optical out?

HDMI is only on the latest mini afaik, and should support audio out. Here's the page from apple's support site on setting it up:

He could be using dvi to hdmi.

You can use optical out on all macs for sound ... so that should be good. You need that funky male optical cable.

If you need to change the output in future, you can do it by Option-clicking on the volume icon in the menu bar.

    Hey! Nifty! I love OSX.

I only had to do it once though, and now every time I plug the MiniDisplay to HDMI cord into my MacBook Pro, it automatically switches to that output.

Do you have audio plugged into it somehow? I have never seen a DVI (on the computer) to HDMI that supports sound without some sort of input on the converter.
