Hey, welcome to the Pewter City Gym! My name's Brock, and I'm the Gym Leader here. I train and battle Pokemon, help new trainers learn about their pokemon, and serve as a community leader here in Pewter.
BrockOP.png

But you're an experienced Trainer, right? So you already know a fair bit about the Pokemon you've been traveling with by now. You know what moves they can perform, what kinda types they got, and maybe even their limits in a battle.
StartersOP.png

So, what makes a good trainer? Having the toughest Pokemon? Knowing the most strategies and tricks? Nah, what separates the best trainers from everybody else is what they have in their hearts. Sound sappy coming from me, the Rock-Solid Pokemon Trainer? Well, when I give out the Boulder Badge, I'm not just saying the trainer was strong enough to beat me, I'm saying they have a close bond with their Pokemon that's worth commemorating.
BeThereOP.png

So when you battle, whether it's out in the wilderness or in an official Pokemon Battle, remember that your Pokemon is your partner. Just like they got your back when you're in a tough situation, you gotta have their back too, no matter what.

Remember that and one day you'll be a Pokemon Master, or maybe even a Gym Leader like me!

What is this?

This game is a continuation of the one I started in this thread here. It stars two groups of novice Pokemon Trainers adventuring in the region of Kanto and uses the PTA rules which can be found here.

Can I join this game?

Maybe, the groups are at a good size right now I think but I'll still consider you if you make a character. Feel free to PM me with questions. There are other games with the [PTA] tag you can check out too, and new games are starting up every now and then. If you like you can even start your own! GMing Pokemon Tabletop Adventures is quite a rewarding experience, I assure you.

Updating soon?

Who started in Pewter City, and saved the local Museum from a Fossil heist. They then went on to have some wacky adventures in the wilderness of Routes 3 and Viridian Forest. Half of the group had a nearly disastrous run-in with Team Rocket, and the other half met a friendly Pokemon Ranger named Ebert who promised to guide them around Mt Moon if they went that way.

Who began their journey lost deep in Viridian Forest. They stumbled upon a ruined village and a Researcher named Felicia. After the ruins were destroyed by a sudden, mysterious blizzard, they accompanied Felicia to a secret Research Base and have tentatively agreed to help, though suspicions about her and the "Everse Corporation" are still high. A recent, devastating Team Rocket encounter has left the group wounded and weary in the middle of Viridian as something large approaches...

Another hour passes before Dates finally drags himself from the warmth of his sleeping bag. He staggers about the room trying to get ready for the day, only succeeding in leaving a trail of half-worn clothes, bits of granola and some toiletries.

Once fully awake he begins to clean up his mess, but stops short when the sock he reaches for jumps out of the way. A cursory glance and it's evident that Vanade got out of his ball and is now inching along the floor, sock trailing behind, helping push some of the mess into Dates' bag. What an oddball, gotta make yourself decent eh?

His wallet tumbles out of the bag, striking a thought. He retrieves a bit of money and sticks it into Alex's bag, careful not to wake the sleeping boy. Kid probably wouldn't accept my money anyways after last night.

    [Beta] URL="http://pokemonadventures.pbworks.com/Pyrrhus-Faraday"]Pyrrhus Faraday[/URL - {Cave Canem}

Pyrrhus awoke in a daze, lying alone in the middle of a field. He sat up and found that, to his surprise, he was unharmed. There was an odd tingling in his right arm and it was difficult to move, but that was about it.

He had the suspicion that he had been somewhere else before he had... fallen asleep? That must have been it. But he had only the barest recollection of anyone else. People in black, some random strangers, nothing important. Then he had fallen asleep... and woken up... wherever he was now. And... why was he surprised to be unharmed? Like the wisps of a dream, Pyrrhus felt the memories of before his arrival here slip through his fingers.

Standing to his feet, he confirmed that he was indeed alone, which he found troubling. He didn't even have his Pokebelt, or the familiar Pokeball which held his oldest friend. It occurred to him that this was very bad indeed; he was alone in the wilderness with no Pokemon for protection. Yet, for some reason, he did not feel very worried. He felt at peace.

Still, best not to dawdle. He decided to call for help. "Hello! Anyone! Anyone there?" he shouted at nobody in particular. He waited nearly a minute, but heard no reply.

"There's nobody else here," a sudden voice from behind startled Pyrrhus. Nearly falling to the ground, he turned around and beheld a magnificent Arcanine. The soft, cream-colored mane, the fluffy tail, the majestic figure... and yet it looked somewhat familiar.

    "Cave?" Pyrrhus asked skeptically.

"Of course it's me," the Arcanine replied simply. Pyrrhus did not question his newfound capacity to speak in human tongue. "I have appeared before you to help you."

    "Help me? With what?"

"There are things that you must see," Cave Canem told him. "Come, I will carry you on my back." Pyrrhus nodded and climbed atop the beast. When his master was fully seated, Cave began to run. Although by all appearances they were still not moving, slowly the scenery began to change.

When Cave finally came to a halt, they were standing in a Pokemon Center. Pyrrhus knew it well: it was the Saffron Pokemon Center, a place he had visited many times before. And he remembered what was going on.

"You kids, get outta here! This is Rocket territory now!" The man in black shouted angrily. He took a swipe at the half dozen children that were harassing him, scattering them away. Spread apart now, they continued to taunt him mercilessly. Several began to pick up stray objects from around the Center and pelted him with them. One child managed to land a rock to his head, leaving a large gash and a trail of blood on his forehead running down into his right eye.

Apparently, he had had enough. "Fine, you kids want to play? Let's play!" He reached to his belt and drew a Pokeball. Throwing it at the child who had hit him with the rock, it smacked the child in the chest and knocked him to the ground. From the Pokeball, a Raticate emerged.

"Okay Ratty, mess him up a little bit!" The man in black commanded. The Raticate snarled, teeth glistening, and prepared to bite into the child's arm.

It was stopped by a fist to the head. "Go, Machop!" One of the other children called out to her Pokemon. "Punch that rat in the face again!" The Machop stood between the prone child and the large rat, making a karate pose.

The fallen child jumped to his feet and reached for his own Pokemon, a Pidgey. "Yeah, Midge! We can take that lousy Rocket and his Pokemon! Tackle that man!" As the child called out the order, two other children released their own Pokemon. One of them was a little girl with an Oddish, and the fourth released a Growlithe. He was a young boy with dirty blonde hair and glasses that Pyrrhus recognized.

"That's me!" It sounded as much like a question as an exclamation. The Arcanine Cave Canem looked at him.

    "That's right, you remember this."

"So what, this is a memory then? But it's not like you've ever been an Arcanine before. What's going on here?"

Arcanine released a slight growl, but not one that would be at all construed as menacing. "You are here because you need to see these things."

"But... I've already seen this. I know what happens." Sure enough, Pyrrhus remembered correctly.

The Machop landed another Karate Chop on the Raticate, knocking it out, while the Oddish released a cloud of spores on the man and the Pidgey flew into him and began to peck at his head.

Screaming, the man ran out, and Young Pyrrhus delivered the final blow. "Cave Canem, Ember attack!" Cave obliged happily, shooting flames at the fleeing man and igniting his pants. He screamed in pain once again as the fires spurred him to run even faster.

Young Pyrrhus couldn't resist taunting the man. "Liar, liar, pants on fire!" he called. The group of children, all ranging from 8 to 12 in age, called out a unison cheer.

"Yeah, this is where we helped free the Pokemon Center from Rocket control," explained Pyrrhus. "But you were there, you know."

"This point in your past is important. It was a defining moment in your character, and it's something you need to recall."

Pyrrhus sighed in response. "You know, I'm pretty sure I didn't raise you to be this cryptic."

Once again, the scene around them changed. This time, however, things were different. The Pokemon Center had been crystal clear. This new realm was fuzzy. The range of view was small, and it was only possible to make out the people.

"What now, why's this so much different?" Pyrrhus inquired of Cave.

"Because these events are in the future; they have not yet been solidified."

"I'm looking at the future?" Pyrrhus was astounded.

"It would be more accurate to say that you're looking at a potential future," the Arcanine clarified.

The scene was rather simple. A man wearing black knelt on the ground, crying. He appeared to be begging or pleading. Pyrrhus stood over his head, eyes burning daggers through the greasy mop of black hair. Cave Canem, still a Growlithe, was there as well, as were several other familiar people, but Pyrrhus couldn't place their names.

"Please, I'm sorry for what I did," the man cried. "I'm sorry! If you let me go, I'll burn my Rocket uniform, I'll never try to steal or harm a Pokemon again, as long as I live!" His body shook with tears, and the other strangers gave pitying looks. Pyrrhus, however, did not appear very pitying.

"Cave, return." Pyrrhus commanded, pulling out the Pokeball and withdrawing his companion. Strangely, he used his left hand for this. Present Pyrrhus noticed that his right hand hung idly at his side. "You don't need to see this." He placed the ball on his belt and picked up another. "Insidius, you're up."

A flash of red, and the black and white Pokemon was out. It sat by Pyrrhus, twitching its tail slightly in anticipation.

Here, the strangers began to speak up. Present Pyrrhus could make out one warning. "Pyrrhus, don't do this."

Whatever was about to happen, Future Pyrrhus ignored the voice. Instead, he addressed the Rocket in front of him. "You say these things now. Yet the last time your organization collapsed, you and all your friends took your uniforms off, and you blended right back into the crowd. You waited, and eventually you got the gang back together. You're a recidivist." The man released a whimper. "Society was unable to punish you for the crimes you committed, and so you felt that there was no penalty associated. It is quite natural."

Present Pyrrhus couldn't help but get the feeling that his future self was building to something. Whatever it is, it was bad.

"The problem is, your punishment must inspire fear. If we are to solve the problem of Team Rocket, it must be by instilling in the individual member the belief that they will be punished, and that it will not be pleasant. You're going to help me with that. You're going to help me form a powerful symbol that your brand of crime will no longer be tolerated. How do you feel about that?" Pyrrhus gave the whimpering head of hair a cruel smile.

"Please, have mercy! I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." the man's pleas faded to incoherence.

"You ask for mercy, when your friends gave none. This is a request that I cannot grant." He knelt down to whisper to the man. "But there is one thing that you can do for me."

The man looked up hopefully. Was this some reprieve?

No. Although Future Pyrrhus whispered in the man's ear, Present Pyrrhus heard what he said clearly. "You can tell your friends that they will suffer the same fate." Then he stood up and turned his back. He looked down at Insidius, who stared at the man intently. "Leave him alive," Pyrrhus commanded, and Insidius stood up.

Present Pyrrhus closed his eyes, but he could not shut out the man's screams.

When he opened his eyes, the people were gone. Pyrrhus stood in the field again, while his Arcanine sat beside him.

"That... was me?" Pyrrhus asked Cave in horror.

Cave nodded. "A single cruelty can spawn a dozen more. What was done to you was terrible, but the terror that action spawned... well, it is not my place to say anything."

Pyrrhus looked confused, so Cave Canem spoke again. "Come, there is more to see."

Up bright and early as always, Aleksandr returns to the lodging house as most people are stirring in their bedrolls. He walks through the sleeping area as Dayton stuffs cash into Alex's bag, and raises a hand in greeting.

"Dobraye utra, Dates. That is meaning, good morning!"

As Al passes into the washroom, he is followed by Volnoy, who mimics his trainer's greeting with a raised paw and a smattering of "Bui, bui-bui! Buizel." instead of anything intelligible. The water weasel shuts the bathroom door behind them, and the sound of the shower starting up can be heard from within.

Sigi looks over the vehicle and finds, much as Pyrrhus did earlier, most of the damage is thankfully superficial in nature. It's a rather hardy vehicle and it would take more then a simple slide into a tree to break it. Turning the key in the ignition rewards him with a low roar, followed by the purr of the jeep's engine as it comes to life again, the headlights turning on automatically in the darkness of the forest.

    Pyrrhus hallucinates.

    [Beta] URL="http://pokemonadventures.pbworks.com/Pyrrhus-Faraday"]Pyrrhus Faraday[/URL - {Cave Canem}

Once Pyrrhus had had a chance to rest from the rather draining experience of hearing himself mutilate another human being, Cave Canem (still an Arcanine) instructed him to get to his feet once again.

"Where are we going now? Please tell me we aren't seeing anything like that again."

Cave responded. "You must yet face two potential futures. The choices you will soon make will impact your destiny in ways you can only imagine. I will grant you a glimpse at two potential outcomes, two possible destinies that await you. Depending on how you face and overcome the challenges that you are about to face, either one is in your hands." Here Cave paused. "Pardon the faux pas."

"What do you mean?" Pyrrhus was quite confused.

"Don't worry about it," Cave spoke quickly. "Your mind will need to reconcile that particular problem when you are ready to come to terms with it."

Pyrrhus just looked even more confused, so Cave continued. "You must remember, first and foremost, that each of these possible futures could be yours. When you awake, your memory of this dream will fade to obscurity. Promise me that you will remember that your Fate is not written in stone; no-one's is."

Pyrrhus didn't really know what to think, but Cave Canem had been his best friend for years. If this was important to his Growlithe... err, Arcanine, it was important to him. "Sure, Cave, I promise I'll remember."

"Okay, good," Cave barked cheerfully. "Now then, climb on my back, we're travelling quite a ways this time." Pyrrhus obliged, climbing atop the doglike Pokemon and holding tightly to its creamy mane as it bounded off again, once more without actually moving.

Cave ran for what felt like hours, but was probably only minutes. When he came to a stop, They were next to a lake. It looked quite pristine; a mountain lake surrounded by beautiful evergreen forest. The ground was covered with a thick layer of snow, reflecting the gentle light of a midmorning sun. The overall effect was a serene, peaceful realm, one rarely marred by the imperfections of mankind's touch. Unlike the previous visions, however, Pyrrhus couldn't see himself anywhere.

"Are you... are you sure we're in the right place, Cave?" Just as he'd finished the sentence, he saw a large shadow fly overhead. Looking up, he saw quite the strange sight. It was an unusually large Skarmory, and it bore a human-sized passenger. A human-sized passenger in a suit....

As Pyrrhus fit the pieces together, the Skarmory lighted on the ground, and this new Future Pyrrhus jumped off. He appeared to be in the middle of a phone call: apparently this method of travel was quite commonplace for him, as it did not interrupt his conversation.

"That's right, I want the new prototype put into testing ASAP. Look, I've got to let you go, I just arrived." Closing up the Pokegear that appeared to be part of his right arm, he reached to his belt and called out Cave Canem, this time an Arcanine.

"Hey Cave, we're here." The Pokemon looked at him skeptically. "I know, it doesn't seem like the right kind of place. But all the evidence points to this location." He stared off into the middle of the lake, where a small island was barely visible. Present Pyrrhus realized that this was a really big lake; from one side, you could barely see the other. In fact, there might well be a town or something on the far side; it was nearly impossible to tell for sure.

Future Pyrrhus reached again to his belt, calling out a rather large crab. It took a second before Present Pyrrhus recognized it as Clack Clack, except like Cave Canem it had evolved, now a Kingler.

Future Pyrrhus addressed the crab, which crawled sideways into the water. "Clack Clack, would you mind taking a swim? You know what I'm looking for." The crab clacked his large claw twice, which Future Pyrrhus took as an affirmative. "Remember, don't be aggressive, just-"

But before the man could continue, a small splash from the lake revealed a transparent form. Both Pyrrhuses looked at what appeared to be a Pokemon, but Future Pyrrhus knew exactly what it was. He reached into a bag and pulled out a pair of infrared goggles. He smiled at the Pokemon, opening his arms in a gesture of peace as the Kingler jumped out of the water.

"Hello, you must be Uxie. I am honored to meet you." Realizing that its disguise was ineffective, the small fairy-like Pokemon made itself visible.

<Hello,> the Pokemon projected its thoughts to everyone, apparently including Present Pyrrhus. <I know why you are here. You seek great wisdom.>

"That's right," nodded Future Pyrrhus. "And I promise you any knowledge you grant me will be used for the betterment of Man and Pokemon."

<I know,> Uxie replied to him. <And I deem you worthy of that which I bestow upon you.> The small Pokemon approached the young man standing in front of it. For a brief instant, Present Pyrrhus recalled the legend that Uxie possessed the capacity to destroy a person's mind. But Future Pyrrhus was not worried.

Uxie came within a hair's breadth of Future Pyrrhus, who had removed his infrared goggles as soon as Uxie had shed its invisible form. There it lifted one of its minute hands and placed it on his forehead. His pupils dilated briefly, and he stood completely still, not even breathing. When the Pokemon lifted its hand, he exhaled slightly.

<I will be watching.> Present Pyrrhus watched as an empty Pokeball flew out of Future Pyrrhus's backpack, and floated effortlessly towards Uxie. The fairy watched the Pokeball, controlling it with its mind, until the small button on the front of the sphere tapped it on the head and swallowed the Pokemon.

"So let me get this straight, I manage to catch an Uxie? And it gives me a bunch of cool knowledge?" Pyrrhus's mood had improved substantially from after his last vision.

Cave nodded. "That is one possible outcome, yes. You and your companions possess nearly endless potential. There is little that you cannot do if you set your mind to it."

Pyrrhus was amazed. "I don't know, that still seems pretty unbelievable."

Cave shook his head. "It could happen. This Pyrrhus is CEO of Faraday Futuristics, a powerful new rival to the older Silph Co. and Devon Corp. Despite this, you remain a close friend of Steven Stone, former Hoenn Champion and Devon Corp. President."

"Get outta here, you're kidding!" Pyrrhus practically shouted.

"On more than one occasion, I will defeat his Metagross in single combat." Cave sounded more than a little proud. "But this is just one of a hundred possible outcomes. Your future actions will determine whether your life goes in this direction... or another." Cave's voice changed to a much more somber tone.

"I'm not going to like where we're going next, am I?" Pyrrhus asked his friend, voice fearful once again. Cave shook his head sadly. Pyrrhus blinked, and they were halfway across the world.

Pyrrhus recognized this place as Saffron City. It was not too far from the Magnet Train, actually. It was an area Pyrrhus had walked many times in his youth.

But it was not one of those times. The city appeared bleaker, more sinister. The only time Pyrrhus had ever seen the city so unwelcoming was the height of the Saffron occupation by Team Rocket. It was a moonless night, and the city's moderate pollution obscured all but the brightest stars. From Pyrrhus's memory, this section of street was usually rather well lit. Tonight, however, the streetlights were all out. A rotund man scurried down the dark road, and his eyes betrayed a trace of fear. One hand clutched at the familiar sight of a Pokeball, while the other held a mask he had clearly been wearing minutes earlier.

As he passed by a particularly dark alley, a single robotic arm grasped his collar and hurled him to the ground. A terse-looking man in a hand-tailored suit emerged from the shadows. As expected, it was Pyrrhus.

The fat man, whoever he was, had apparently been expecting this. He threw the Pokeball, and a Pokemon that Pyrrhus had never seen before flew up into the air. It was some sort of flying-type, and although it looked quite cheerful, its outward attitude belied a quiet malice.

Fortunately for Future Pyrrhus, it didn't get much chance to do anything. Before it could finish with the Aura Sphere attack it appeared to be making, a bolt of yellow lightning struck it, and the white Pokemon fell straight to the ground.

"Nice work, Buzz," Future Pyrrhus complemented the Electabuzz that had emerged from the shadows, clearly the source of the attack. Holding the man by the neck with his mechanical arm, Pyrrhus smacked his head against the pavement. "Now then, you're not going to try anything else like that, are you? Or am I going to have to get violent?"

The man managed to shake his head, so Pyrrhus continued. "Now then, you know who I am. You know what I've been doing to your organization. You know what happened to the ninja assassin they sent to kill me. I believe the Jennies found his head outside their HQ. And you know that I rarely take prisoners."

The man released a throaty wail, but Pyrrhus clamped off his windpipe before he could make any loud noises. "What I want is simple. I want the location of your base. I know it's in the city. Tell me, and I might consider letting you live."

The man tried to speak, but Pyrrhus still had his throat blocked and he could manage only a slight wheeze. Pyrrhus realized this, and loosened his grasp slightly. The man whispered an address that Present Pyrrhus knew was in one of the worse parts of the town. Future Pyrrhus repeated the address to himself in his head a few times to solidify it in his memory. "Good, that's all I need to know. Your organization falls tonight." He released his grip on the fat man's throat, who coughed loudly as he struggled to fill his lungs with air.

"That's... it? Is youse gonna let me go?" he managed to ask.

Pyrrhus was still kneeling over the body. He twitched his right arm slightly, and a knife appeared above the wrist of the robotic hand. "Oh, no. I grant you merely the peace of a fast death." One quick flash, and the daggerlike blade struck through the man's throat. Present Pyrrhus averted his eyes again, but felt compelled to look back as Future Pyrrhus returned to his feet. He ignored the steady stream of blood that spurted from the neck wound as the pressure slowly dropped and the flow decreased to a mere oozing.

"Robotic arm. No fingerprints, no DNA. I wonder how many lives I've ended thanks to this." He wiped the blade clean before twitching his hand again and causing the blade to retract. As the man closed his eyes for the last time, Pyrrhus gave one final word. "You deserve to suffer more. You were a good man, once. This death is too good for you."

He turned to the Electabuzz. "Nice job putting out all the streetlamps, too, by the way. Now then, let's go."

"Is it over?" Present Pyrrhus asked. They were someplace different, standing in the middle of a large room. A man and a woman stood there, Pokemon out. The man owned a Flygon, the woman a Ludicolo. They did not appear very happy.

"Oh... oh no. It's not over yet, is it?" Cave gave the closest thing a dog can to a sigh, which came out like a mini-growl.

An orange blur came bounding quite literally through the only door, breaking it to bits. On its back was a Pokemon that Pyrrhus recognized as a Gallade. Behind the pair of Pokemon, Pyrrhus waltzed inside.

"Sorry about your door," he said, looking at the ground and the splintered remains. "It ends tonight."

The two trainers in the room did not respond to him. The man with the Flygon, a scruffy-looking fellow dressed in brown, pointed his Flygon at Future Pyrrhus. "Sarlack, kill them!" He shouted. His voice was a mix of fear and rage.

The woman, to her credit, only expressed rage. "Ludicolo, help me!" She shouted in pure, white-hot fury.

Both of the Pokemon leapt into action. The Flygon released a blast of fiery breath that threatened to engulf Cave Canem. Or would have, if Cave hadn't leapt out of the way. Its maneuvering put it in range of the Ludicolo, who had been starting up a bizarre dance. The Gallade on Cave's back took that opportunity to slam the Mexican duck with one of its blade-like arms, getting very close and slamming it against the wall to knock it out.

The Flygon watched its partner fall, and flew towards the Arcanine as one of its claws began to glow. Future Pyrrhus called out, "Cave! Attack pattern Omega!"

The Arcanine gave a bark as the Pokemon launched himself into a lightning-fast counter-attack, circling around the Flygon before it could hit him. He widened the circle so that both Flygon and its trainer were surrounded. Before Pokemon or trainer could respond, Cave Canem began to surround himself with flames and the Gallade leapt off. In moments, the blur of orange and black had created a whirling tornado of fire in this underground room, and all its occupants began to feel a shallowness in their breath as the oxygen was burned out of the air.

The Flygon known as Sarlack made one final honorable action, hurling its trainer free from the fiery death before the flames consumed it completely. The dragon Pokemon released an agonizing screech as its skin ignited and it took on the appearance of the legendary firebird Ho-oh for a moment before being incinerated into ash.

Cave Canem slowed to a halt, but the damage had been done. Anything in the room that could catch fire was already burning, Ludicolo included. Pyrrhus called back both Pokemon before approaching the man and woman cowering on the ground.

"A fitting end to this cadre. For millenia, fire has been seen as a symbol of purification. Tonight, this building will be the funeral pyre of your organization." He began to look a bit light-headed as he continued. "Let the cleansing fire engulf you. It will be over soon." He reached down a hand to the woman, who flinched away. Ignoring her movement, he grabbed and pulled at the necklace she wore, snapping it as he pulled it from her neck. "Fear not, I will send this to your brother, a last memento from his failure of a sister."

With one last surge of rage, she tried to leap onto the man and tear at his eyes, leaking tears from the gathering smoke. His right arm caught hers and snapped her wrist in a single movement, hurling her back to the ground.

He walked out of the room, coughing, and made his way to the surface. As he left the room, he smashed at the doorway to collapse the wall behind him and prevent anyone's escape. The man and the woman clutched at each other as the fire grew closer before the oxygen deprivation finally brought them to unconsciousness, and from there to eternal rest.

Pyrrhus opened his eyes again. Surrounded by smoke and fire, it had all felt so real. It was as though he had really been in the room, and the last few moments of the two people ambushed in that room had been his as well.

Whether he was weeping due to the realism of the smoke, or from the horrors he had beheld, he did not know. Likely it was both. Cave Canem took the opportunity to lick his hand just the way he had done when Pyrrhus was upset as a child. The nurturing gesture did have a calming effect on the young man, whose sobbing grew quiet.

Cave spoke to his trainer. "You have seen how Pokemon, under different trainers, are capable of great good and great evil. People are the same way. If you are to take the higher path, you will need to understand that people are the product of circumstance as readily as their own nature."

Pyrrhus looked up at his Pokemon. "Well yeah, that makes sense. Just... just please tell me... what can I do so I don't become that person? What must I do?"

Cave licked his trainer. "You must not allow a single incident to define your life. You must not allow hate to fester and corrupt you until you lose your conscience. But most of all, you need to-"

Pyrrhus felt the ground shake. "What was that rumble?"

"I don't know, but our time is short," Cave replied. "Most of all, you need to remember that you always have a choice."

Pyrrhus sniffled and rubbed his nose. "You know, I wish we could talk like this all the time. I wish you could speak like a person."

Cave panted, giving Pyrrhus a smile. "So do I, my friend." Once more, the ground shook.

Pyrrhus gave his Pokemon a hug. "Thank you. Thank you for everything. I love you, Cave."

Cave licked him. "You're welcome, and I love you too. Now, I want you to go to sleep. When you wake up, things are going to unpleasant for quite a while. So I want you to sleep, and not be troubled. Can you do that?"

Pyrrhus nodded. "You know, I am feeling pretty tired. Maybe I'll just lie down." He laid back on the soft green grass of the clearing, and felt his eyelids grow heavy. As he felt himself doze off, he acknowledged the warmth of his best friend lying against his left side.

Apologies to Team WANG, but I thought it would be a little more powerful if I used familiar characters rather than Thomas Rocket, Richard Rocket, and Harry Rocket.

    [Later]

One hand on his messenger bag, the other on the side of his glasses, Alex exhales quietly as he walks into Brock's stone gym, filled with a few trainers pitting their pokemon against one another in custom training sessions. Moving to the sidelines, Alex watches as blasts of energy flare spark up in various fights across the Gym, the sounds of battle mingling with those of laughter and fun. The teen smiles as he recognizes the kid from earlier, battling with what looks to be a good sized Metapod.

"Hey kid, looks like you took my advice to heart, huh?"

"Yeah! He's doing pretty great! I'd say he's in, like, the top percentage of Metapods right now!"

"That's some eerily accurate information, Adam!"

"Yeah, but you know, he wouldn't have gotten there without your help! You wanna swap numbers?"

"Uh, yeah, whatever, and you're certainly welcome. You're a good kid Adam"

Alex walks away with a smile and an unmistakable feeling of foreboding over giving his number to some kid.

Ehh, who cares. He seems like a nice kid, he might want some advice or whatever later on...

    "Yo, Leader Brock"

"Hm? Oh, just Brock is fine"

"Brock, I've never really battled before...but I figure now is as good a time as any to learn to protect myself. I'm kinda a breeder as well, so I've always sorta had a problem with 'forcing' a friend to fight on my behalf..."

A fond look of determination enters Alex's eyes as he takes a stance

"...but I think I learned something yesterday, what with the whole museum thing and the, uh...events following. These guys don't think of it as fighting for the sake of fighting, they think of it as protecting us, and training to protect us, and if they want to do it, well then I gotta learn to protect them as well I guess"

"And...and that's why I'm here today! Brock, I challenge you to help both me and my friends train!"

Brock smiles, pushing himself up from his cross-legged position

"You've learned quite a bit in such a short amount of time. I accept your challenge"

The small crowd of people turn to the center of the gym as the challenge is accepted, making way for the pair to occupy the dusty area drawn out in the rock with white chalk.

Alex smiles as he turns around to face the gym leader, yelling with newly learned bravado, "Go, ZeZe the X!"

    "Go, Kabuto!"

The two pokemon exit their balls in showy flashes of energy, each one waiting for the other to move.

Alright, this guy is probably a rock type, considering Brock, and he looks like one of those dudes in the museum, a bug type maybe?

"Kabuto, soften 'im up with a Leer attack!"

Alex is awaked from his minitrance, shaking his head as he reenters reality

"Don't let him get away with that Ze! Use Tail Whip!"

The two pokes hold their ground, Zeze lowering his head and waving his tail, ready to pounce. The Kabuto responds with a mean glare, his eyes flashing red for a moment

    [Kabuto's ATK falls!]
    [Zeze's DEF falls!]

    "A scratch attack, Kabuto!"

"Get some sand in the air Ze!"

Zeze barks his approval, throwing up a cloud of dust just as the Kabuto rushes in, scoring a solid hit on the Linoone.

    [15] [Kabuto's Accuracy fell!]
    [11] [A hit! Zeze takes 19 damage!]
    [26/45]

"He's strong huh? I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting that!"

"Yeah, and you haven't seen the half of it yet", Brock grins, "Kabuto, use your Mud Shot!"

Fuck, Mud Shot? Is that a ranged attack or-

Alex is once again shaken from his thoughts as the ball of dirt flies toward an order awaiting Zeze

"Ze, uh, use another Sand Attack!"

    [14][Kabuto's Accuracy falls!][-2]

But the blast finds it's mark regardless, knocking Zeze back onto all fours.

[9][A hit! Zeze takes 13 damage, and his SPD falls!]
    [13/45]

"Alright, time to try your new trick, Kabuto.* Dig!"

Brock's Kabuto responds with a sharp click, diving into the ground as the crowd cheers.

"Zeze, hit em with gro- wait huh?"

Zeze manages to respond with a loud bark just as his opponent begins his dive, the Linoon standing it's ground despite injuries.

    [14][Kabuto's ATK falls!]
    [Kabuto is underground!]

Suddenly noticing the hole left in the floor from the attack, Alex points and shouts, "Quick, Zeze! Get over there and call him out!"

Zeze nods, running like hell over to the hole and loudly growling into the quickly collapsing tunnel. The crowd roars as the Kabuto surfaces a few feet away from his target, shaken by the evidently echoing roars throughout his makeshift tunnel system.

    [20, Crit!][Kabuto's ATK falls!][-4]
    [3][Kabuto misses!]

"No good, Kabuto, use a scratch attack!"
"Nice Job Ze! Now, show him how you say hi to your new friends! Headbutt!"

Zeze charges toward his foe, landing the first strong hit of the match for Alex, but Kabuto quickly responds with a slash to the face.

    "You've done good Ze! Return!"

In a flash, Zeze disappears, much to the crowd's disfavor. However, Eightoh quickly takes his place, exploding from his ball in a cool display of mist. The mist disperses quickly however, as Eightoh is struck with a glowing Kabuto, abit not very hard.

"Okay... a scratch attack Kabuto.*Test him out!"
"Eightoh, show him how we do! Astonish!"

Kabuto outspeeds Eightoh, quickly cutting in with one of his claws and landing a good hit. Rearing back on his hind legs, Eightoh pulls the Fossil Pokemon in close, letting a burst of psychic energy run between the two, sadly without much effect.

Brock cheers with the crowd, "We got him on the ropes! Scratch!"
Nodding in response, Alex calls out, "If anything, I think I'm getting a handle on the ropes! Let's try something new Eight, Nature Power!"

Kabuto throws a slash at Eightoh, throwing blood across the field as it hits the Leaf pokemon hard enough to send him flying.

    [18][A hit! 808b6 takes 10 damage!]
    [34/60]

The growing crowd noise rises to a fever pitch as Eightoh somehow regains his air control, and begins to emit a slightly slate gray glow. The arena rumbles as rocks from around the Gym loosen themselves, launching into the air before piling onto an unfortunate Kabuto.

    Sudowoodo joins the fight!

The cheering crowd, now grown from the visitors at the pokecenter across the street, quickly hush as the new pokemon comes into play. Alex and Eight hold their ground, the latter staring down the other poke despite already being nearly worn out by Kabuto.

"Let's start this round off strong Sudowoodo! Low Kick!"
"Time to hit him with all we got! Eightoh, use your gift!"

Chirping, the Lotad easily outspeeds the Tree Pokemon, the single Leppa berry sitting atop his head glowing white before being absorbed into his leaf. Just as Sudowoodo begins his charge, Eightoh opens wide, letting loose a powerful, seemingly impermeable beam of...muscle?

    [Eightoh uses Natural Gift!]
[Natural Gift turns into a Fighting Type Attack!]
[9][A hit! It's super effective! Sudowoodo takes 48 damage!]

Shaking off grievous damage, Sudowoodo lands in front of the Lotad, throwing out a strong kick to Eightoh's many legs.

[9][A hit! Eightoh takes 16 damage!]
    [18/60]

The crowd roars at the still standing pokemon, almost drowning out Brock's call to arms

    "Sudowoodo, rock throw!"
"Eightoh, take him to the floor, Lotad style!"

Eightoh pounces on Sudowoodo, hitting him hard with...tickles. The laughing poke manages to shake off the psychopathic attacker, reaching back to grab a chunk of the rocky floor, and hurling it at Eight. The bolder takes Eightoh down, the pokemon, collapsed on the cavernous floor.

[12][A hit! Sudowoodo's ATK and DEF fall!]
[19][A hit! Eightoh takes 12 damage!]
    [6/60]

"Come on Eightoh! You can do it!"

Taking a heavy breath, the Lotad pushes himself to his feet, chirping it's thanks to Alex.

"Uh, Eight, I'm here for you, but that wasn't me, someone else beat me to it...", the trainer says, slightly bewildered. Alex turns around as the crowd quiets down, and far to the back, Alex can make out two hands thrusting into the air a large, grinning metapod. Alex smiles

"Thanks Adam, this one is for you!"

The crowd screams it's approval once more

"Another Low Kick should finish him off, go for it Sudo!"

"Eightoh, let's show Brock the Power of Nature and Friendship! Go!"

    [8][A hit!]

Eightoh glows grayer yet, the building shaking with Alex's proclamation, the newly replaced windows cracking much to some nearby Worker's swearing. Several large rocks uproot themselves from nearby stalactites, breaking and tumbling down toward Sudowoodo. Arms crossed, Brock once again nods his approval as he withdraws his knocked out pokemon.

    [Sudowoodo takes 20 damage!]
    COLOR="Red"]----[/COLOR

Alex turns to the crowd, quickly throwing up his fist in joy before running to Eightoh's side, hugging him, and returning him to his warm pokeball. Stuffing the ball back into his bag, Alex walks up to a smiling Brock, giving him a highfive, before being handed a shiny new Bolder Badge, and a Dig TM.

"You've learned a lot Alex, that much is evident. You're gonna be just fine."

"Thanks Brock! You think it would be okay if we swapped numbers, you're a breeder, I'm a breeder, maybe we could talk breeding sometime?"

It's yet another super fun stat time.

    Alpha - 55,067 words, approx. 132 pages.
    Beta - 53,984 words, approx. 114 pages.

Beta catching up mighty fast thanks to Terrendos' efforts, I think. We need to sell this to a publisher and start making some money.

Coincidentally, Docs are up to date now.

    The Next Day

"Okay Spike, do it like this."

Spike seems uncertain at first, but he begins to copy the stretches his trainer is showing him.

"Yeah, Like that. I figure these ones will probably work best for you, seeing as how your muscle systems so different then mine."

Despite the enthusiasm in Doug's voice, he looks tired. Not only was yesterday a difficult day, he had gotten up early to perform some research on the musculature of bug Pokemon. Coming up with a work out routine for the newly evolved Spike was proving to be something of a challenge The people at the Pokemon Center had told Doug that with the condition Spike's wings where in he would probably never fly, because even if the structural damage could be fixed, it was plain from their size that they never got the chance to fully develop. Other small things also showed up on Spike's examination, such as the brittleness of his carapace and the malformation of his antenna. The Nurse was amazed that he even survived what the ordeal that forced him to evolve so quickly.

Although Doug was sad that his new friend might never reach his true potential, he was determined not to let his disabilities get in the way of his development. He would do anything in his power to make sure that others knew that Spike, while not the model specimen of a Beedrill, was still deserving of respect.

It's hard to believe we met just yesterday; we've all ready been through so much... I'll show all those wimps what true strength is.

"Good work Spike, it's good to see your muscular system and coordination are in good shape. Take a break, I don't want you to strain yourself."

Spike stops his stretches and looks at Doug with those expressionless red eyes. It's hard to know what he's thinking, or even where he's looking for that matter.

Doug looks over at Belmont knocking cans off a fencepost with his knew Razor Leaf.

"You take a break too Belmont. We have to head over to the police stations in a few minutes and I we need to clean this stuff up before we go."

After disposing of the shredded aluminum cans, Doug, Belmont, and Spike begin a leisurely jog to the police station.

    PCPD

Doug opens the door to the police department and holds it for his Pokemon. Belmont struts in like he owns the place while Spike looks the room over carefully before taking a seat near a potted plant.

Doug approaches the the front desk and gets the police officer's attention.

"Uh, hey. I'm here to check on that Golbat from the fight yesterday. How's he doing?"

Thinking back on how painful it was to see Spike almost die, Doug can't help but wonder what's going through that big bat's head right now. Doug barely even knew Spike, but Belmont and him where as tight as a Pokemon and his trainer could be. Who could say how close those two where? Criminals or not, Doug didn't want that Golbat to feel responsible for the death of his trainer, much as Doug felt responsible for Spike's current state.

I refuse to let us be beaten by Team Beta!

Hey guys, what's up? Marsh told me I should post my character in the thread. So...uh, here she is.
    ==========

    Name: Laura Dunn
    Age: 16
    Level: 4
    Base Class: Breeder
    Stats:
    • STR = 8
    • CON = 8
    • DEX = 6
    • INT = 12
    • WIS = 16
    • CHA = 18
    Features:
    • Egg Factory: Breeder Feature
    • Natural Edge: Breeder Feature
    • Egg Hatcher: Breeder Feature
    • Back Off: Trainer Feature

    Background:
The daughter of a professional Coordinator, Laura's dream at an early age was win even more contests as her mom. However, the more she studied about Pokemon training, the more interested she became in planning breeding chains to create the best battlers and contest stars. When she was 13 years old, she helped her mom breed a Persian that dominated the Beauty Contest. On her 14th birthday, as a reward for her hard work, her parents gave her a Pokemon to call her own: a Charmander.

Finally able to catch and breed Pokemon on her own, Rachel seeks to become the best breeder in the world--and make a tidy profit from trainers who seek her high-quality Pokemon, of course.

    Appearance:
Though Laura may have gotten her analytical and sometimes cutthroat mind from her dad, her long black hair, blue eyes, good looks, and fashion sense are definitely courtesy of mom. Who cares if a dark purple dress and black sandals aren't practical for a traveling trainer? They look great.

    Pokemon:

    The Captain
    Breed: Charmeleon
    Level: 19
    Gender: Male
    Type: Fire
    Nature: Serious
    Egg Group: Monster / Dragon
    Ability: Blaze

    Stats:
    • HP = 6 + 2 = 8
    • ATK = 6 + 3 = 9
    • DEF = 6 + 2 = 8
    • SATK = 8 + 4 = 12
    • SDEF = 7 + 3 = 10
    • SPD = 8 + 5 = 13
    SATK=SPD > SDEF > HP=ATK=DEF

    Moves:
    • Growl
    • Scratch
    • Ember
    • Smokescreen
    • Dragon Rage

    Background:
The Captain (sometimes "Cap") is Rachel's first Pokemon, given his name because of his no-nonsense demeanor that reminds Laura of a ship captain she knows. Laura taught him to salute and stand at attention so he could act his part. Captain is very protective of his master and prefers to travel alongside her out of his Pokeball.

    Fluff
    Breed: Flaafy
    Level: 15
    Gender: Female
    Type: Electric
    Nature: Relaxed
    Egg Group: Monster / Field
    Ability: Cute Charm

    Stats:
    • HP = 7 + 3 = 10
    • ATK = 6 + 1 = 7
    • DEF = 8 + 4 = 12
    • SATK = 8 + 4 = 12
    • SDEF = 6 + 2 = 8
    • SPD = 3 + 1 = 4

    DEF=SATK > HP > ATK=SDEF > SPD

    Moves:
    • Tackle
    • Growl
    • Thundershock
    • Thunder Wave

    Background:
Fluff was the first Pokemon Laura bred all by herself. And although Fluff isn't the smartest Pokemon in the world, she's very disciplined and is good at diffusing quarrels between Pokemon.

    Bob
    Breed: Wooper
    Level: 15
    Gender: Male
    Type: Water / Ground
    Nature: Bold
Egg Group: Water 1 / Field
    Ability: Water Absorb

    Stats:
    • HP = 6 + 4 = 10
    • ATK = 3 + 2 = 5
    • DEF = 7 + 4 = 11
    • SATK = 3 + 3 = 6
    • SDEF = 3 + 1 = 4
    • SPD = 2 + 1 = 3

    DEF > HP > ATK=SATK=SDEF > SPD

    Moves:
    • Tail Whip
    • Water Gun
    • Mud Shot
    • Mud Sport
    • Slam

Background: Laura caught Bob soon after hatching Fluff. Despite being much less powerful than The Captain, Bob didn't go down easily and almost managed to wear out Cap. Outside of battle, Bob's easy-going and a bit of a joker, which tends to frustrate Cap. If asked why she decided to give him such an average name, Laura will usually cross her arms and stare into the sky for a minutes, as if lost in thought, before responding, "Dunno. He just looks like Bob."

Pokemon Laura Would Like to Meet:
    Scyther
    Squirtle
    Turtwig
    Starly
    Meowth
    Ponyta
    Misdreavus
    Spoink
    Feebas
    Abra
    Eevee
    Dratini
    ==========

I'll probably try and get on Beta Team, since working for a secret lab sounds pretty fun.

The officer on duty looks to the computer. "Oh, you'd be Doug, then," he stands up, offering a handshake across the desk. "Officer Desmond, call me Grant."

"The Golbat is doing well enough, we've transferred it to a new ball. It was caught wild, but with an illegal pokeball so we couldn't recover any data on its OT, location, anything like that. We had it checked over at the Center and it seemed docile and healthy enough. Not unusual really, Rockets don't mistreat their pokemon any more then they would any other piece of equipment."

He steps out from behind his desk, gesturing for Doug to follow, heading to the back room of the station where a couple of other officers are seated, working on reports or having a late breakfast. "You can take him with you now if you like, he's sleeping though. Nocturnal. We've got a report from the Center on him for you too, how to take care of 'im but you probably already got a good idea what you're looking at, there."

"Wouldn't recommend battling right away, though he probably won't be much trouble. We get trained Growlithes here with more fiery, ha, personalities then he has."

"One last thing, we all got the report from what happened last night. Anything you need to tell me about that... you two kids gonna be okay?"

Maximum drifts down to hover at the side of Ralph, striding towards the treeline with the bravery that Rangers are so well known for, Bubbles shivering quietly in his arms.

The pseudo-quake continues its steady beat, and everyone is startled by the sudden collapse of several trees, falling across the road a couple dozen meters away, as something pushes its way out of the forest.

A massive, bipedal creature, perhaps 20 feet tall, its green reptilian form menacing with spikes, and its front adorned with a dark blue rhombus. With a clawed arm, it slams a tree to its side, uprooting the growth with a shower of dirt and sending it tumbling to the ground with a crash. Opening its maw wide to the heavens, it lets loose a mighty roar, the earth beneath its feet shuddering and cracking as though acting on the creature's angered bidding.

The roar echoing through the trees, it affixes its beady eyes down the dirt road to see the approaching Ranger, and the other humans and pokemon by the jeep. Lowering its huge shoulders, it begins to charge at the group with a slow, but deceptively speedy gait.

    Sup Stilts.

    Concerning the new character:

    1. I think a Charmeleon might be a bit presumptuous, but if Marsh is okay with it I guess I am.

    2. There's already a Rachel in another PTA game; for the sake of simplicity you might consider changing her name.

Other than that I don't see any problems. You're interrupting the awesome Power Trio of Ralph/Zane/Pyrrhus, but I guess Siegfried already did that.

EDIT: Also bratr I wasn't kidding you get my body out of there right this instant
