The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
It's a movie about owls. In armor. Killing each other.
I saw this today and I think it's pretty good. Solid fantasy story in the vein of Redwall, even if it is pretty much by the numbers. However what really does it is that this movie just looks amazing. I saw it in 3D, and it was pretty damn impressive visually. Lots of slow-mo though, so I guess if you're one of those crazy people who hate that for some reason be warned.
I don't know, Owls: The Movie is kind of a hard sell to me
Also 3D movies are fucking expensive, so unless it's, like, Toy Story 3, I find it tough to convince myself to go

The photorealistic owls CGI owls that talk, creep me the fuck out. That is the most horrifying looking movie to me, it's just so wrong, I won't say it's anything uncanny but just no for me.

I would say that shot for shot, this movie is far more visually striking than Toy Story 3. The only thing from the latter than even comes close is the furnace at the end.
This is no where near as good of a story though.
So I guess what I'm saying is, this is not a movie you want to go see in 2D. Either go see it in 3D to be awe-struck by the visuals, or wait till it hits Netflix and you are bored.

The owls are not what they seem.
Damn good coffee, though.
Damn good.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.
My friend is reading the books - apparently this author researched owls a lot and wanted to make a big photography book about them with detailed info but it's really hard to take pictures of owls since they only come out at night so she wrote these books instead!

The title is hilariously generic. "So what's this book of yours called?"
"Uh, well... it's a legend... about these guardians..."
What I meant by that is if I am really interested in seeing a movie, I'll go see it even if I can only get into a 3D release
If I'm just going for 3D gimmick popcorn effects, I'd rather save the money and miss out on the experience
But for people who like 3D just because it's fun, which is a totally vapid viewpoint, this should be right up their alley!
Took care of that typo for you.
Regardless, Owls are frightening and should not be able to speak unless it is to counsel bears with honey fetishes or boys with lollipop-related concerns.
I think we can all agree that adventurous boy-kings need to explore alternative career paths, and any number of reputable mammals or fish would be happy to help them in that.
Well Ii would say you've got me there, but we both know that American's would get to the colon and go "Jeez it's like 2 periods, guess this is the end of our reading."
Anyway jokes aside, I saw a trailer for this in the cinema and just wanted to see it because it sounded like it was Hugo Weaving narrating.
I was quite mystified at how such a bizarre premise made it into a major commercial film—until I realized that it was based on an earlier series of books. There don't seem to be many original fantasy/sci-fi films getting produced these days.

I felt the same way after watching Happy Feet.

But...
Who MAKES the owl armor?
And for a PG movie the fighting is probably more than they would have been able to get away with had it involved actual people and not CG owls.
The owl blacksmiths. They even have little welding goggles.
But...but they have no HANDS! How do they WORK???
MAGIC!
Damn good coffee, though.
Damn good.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
No seriously they use their talons.
Now, I'm not sure how that gives you enough manual dexterity to shape a fucking helmet but whatever.
Well it's just helmet plus talon spikes. Or swords. One of them has these short-swords strapped on to his talons. It's great.
So... tie talon gear to talons using beak, stick head inside helmet, done? I guess.
Might as well ask how one of them managed to make and string a lute, and then play it.

If I see this in 3D I will probably attempt to squeeze it. Multiple times.

I remember excited when I heard about a movie being made.
I might WATCH LEGALLY this later.

Actually, the American title is more complex: "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole".
