[Alcohol] - THE FINAL DRUNKENING
Posts
i use mount gay and myers
i have a jug of sailor jerry's but it's basically vanilla extract as far as i'm concerned
Sailor Jerry was what I used when I wanted to get a little out of hand in college. It's Virgin Islands stuff IIRC so yeah, not exactly going to scream quality.
They are limiting you to six if you pick it up at either pub. I'm strongly considering going the full amount. The 2008 version was that good, so I'm not making the mistake where I think "eh, I can always pick up a bottle next week" again.
The Odd Notion beer is interesting. It's an ale with Hibiscus, and has a darker taste, sort of a hint of a porter, but not too much. It's quite nice.

Samplers are where it's at.*
Oh, and I never really reported back after drinking some of the Sazerac I had gotten hold of. Very good stuff, and for the price it is pretty ridiculous. Better than Rittenhouse, smoother. Still have most of a bottle left out of the two i picked up. I keep seeing Overholt being mentioned frequently, is that stuff worth trying? I always figured Rittenhouse would be superior to it, but that has been hard to find lately, so when I get low on Sazerac, I might have to try some.
Anyway, somebody needs to find some Rowan's Creek and let me know your thoughts, otherwise I'll have to keep randomly bringing it up every couple weeks.
i'll keep an eye out for rowan's creek. i've not seen it up here - is it possibly a local brand?
There's not much around about it, except that it's made by the same distillery that does Noah's.
This is probably the best thing I've ever drank in my entire life. Granted I am partial to Jameson to begin with, but my god is the 12 year an amazing improvement over the normal Jameson. This bottle was 45 dollars, your prices may vary, but if you have any intrest in whiskey, give it a try.
Oh, and I drank half the bottle in about 3 hours, I don't recommend that part...the next day will suck for you.
you keep saying this, and I keep thinking less of you
rittenhouse bottled-inbond is
boozier
aged longer
higher rye in the mash
all this results in a superior taste

Why would you want to make chocolate vodka? And with Mars bars?
i do have a bottle of redbreast 12 or 15 that is pretty great
Chocolate is good.
Vodka is...good...
I see nothing wrong with this endeavor.
The only thing it's missing is Bacon, really.
I thought that the 80 proof Rittenhouse was not too shabby, but the bonded 100 proof? Pretty good stuff, and I have not purchased it in a while because it has been unavailable and as I have been drinking good bourbon, but I don't remember it being $30, a lot closer to $24 I believe.
The Rowan's is not local to me, per se, but I do know it is not available everywhere. I told my brother as well as from friends, all in CA to look for it, and it doesn't exist over there.

Their Willett Reserve in the fancy bottle is phenomenal as well, probably a bit better than the Rowan's, but probably not worth the extra $$ every time.
Is this... what?
Do you really not see my original post like, right above that?
Then slip me a mickey and fondle my tits, because I do love me some flavored vodka.
also, i think the only rittenhouse i've had was the 80 proof stuff. it was not impressive, and they wanted too much money for it, at least out in colorado. i've not seen it at either of my regular liquor stores out here.
I'd never drink regular old vodka, but there is some pretty awesome stuff you can do with vodka infusions. I made a pretty mean drink a while back with basil vodka, garlic vodka, and cherry tomato, garnished with parmesan.
I don't know about "the right alcohols." But that drink was delicious. I had 4 in a row. Self-mixed.
fuck up once and you break your thumb / if you're happy at all then you're god damn dumb
that's right we're on a fucked up cruise / God is dead but at least we have booze
bad things happen, no one knows why / the sun burns out and everyone dies
I just meant that his edit is so unbelievably wrong that I was dumbfounded.
Very excited.
yeah i am fine with infusing vodka with stuff
i just don't really think much of vodka as a base liquor in cocktails, haven't cared for the flavored vodkas i've had for the most part, and really dislike the whole idea of upscale vodka
Hey now, I'm pretty sure this thread has established Dr. Drinx as the messiah of all alcoholic beverage lovers, and if he likes it then it must be good:

Such grace!
will, we've gone over this:
the rittenhouse 80 proof is rebranded pikesville supreme rye. It is passable at best. the only rittenhouse you should be drinking is the bottled-in-bond 6 year old 100 proof rye, and it should be sub $25.
i did buy a bottle of the pikesville for like $12 the other day and i thought i was fine at that price
i'll have to try the rittenhouse 6 when i can find it then.
At least I think I'm looking for "peaty" since that and "smokey" are how my favorites are described. Lagavulin is so pricey that it's pretty much only a special occaision pour for me. Just finished the Laphroaig Quarter Cask and that was pretty good. Coal Ila was just OK IMO. Having trouble sourcing Ardbeg, which I had once long ago, but I suspect it's also gonna be north of $50-60/fifth.
My understanding is the Islay distilleries are the ones known for their peat, but willing to try whatever. Also it matters not to me if it's a single malt or blended.
Cask Strength or Quarter Cask Laphroaig is pretty much as intensely "island" as you're going to get, so if you're looking for something with a denser peat or smoke flavour you're likely going to struggle without getting into exotic bottlings. I'm really fond of the 10 and generally always have a bottle of it about. Tobermory is peaty but fairly light. Bowmore 12 is good and primarily smoky, but I've never tried this Legend bottling. Since it doesn't state an age I'm guessing that it's fairly young spirit aimed at the cheaper end of the market. Could be worth a punt, though.
Going outside of the $30 range I'd also recommend Talisker.
It seemed extremely... watered down. Now I'm not sure if that is because someone in my house actually watered it down (I don't know why) or if it is just naturally like that. The flavor wasn't bad but it had like 0 bite of any kind.
So I guess I'm trying to ask, is it normally that smooth or did something weird happen to that bottle?
Bowmore Legend is a fair to middling islay. Not particularly mature, somewhat single-note on the flavors. Pretty light on the body, somewhat sweet. It is a single malt. But probably in the 7-10 year range. But a good entry point or daily drinker.
There's also McClellands. It's another cheapish scotch with decent Islay character. Not really powerful like a longer aged Islay would be, but a decent entry point. Again, sweeter with less of the peat overtones and more of a single note.
Outside of those two, I can't think of any $30 range Islays.
Yup. With tax my bottle came to a bit under a hundred bucks.
Which isn't bad for the best whiskey in the world.
Too bad I was too generous doling out tastes and after the first day I'd already gone through like 2/5ths of a bottle.
