Whats the advantages of palming it? Seems like you'd be using your arm muscles more than wrist muscles to move it at that point and you'd lose precision.
In my case, it's more a matter of resting my hand on the mouse, I still move it around by flexing my fingers. The 'claw' grip gives me a wrist ache.
Picked up a G500 last night at Best Buy for $50 after Stormwatcher talked me into it, and I'm absolutely loving it. The toggle for the scroll wheel between clicky and smooth is incredibly useful for super fast vertical scrolling. I also love being able to cycle through different sensitivity levels on the mouse itself for finer control in photoshop, or speed while gaming.
I can't believe what a huge difference a quality mouse can make.
Have you used a deathadder before (or ms intellimouse, they weigh about the same?) I'm tempted to grab the Orochi to replace a deathadder that went mysteriously missing, but I've found wireless mice have a weird weight that puts me off them.
I need a new mouse badly. I've had a nice little Logitech mouse that I bought for $20 10 years ago, and it's starting to go. The buttons double click sometimes, and they are at odd angles when not clicked.
I managed to snag a Roccat Kone+ on ebay for a similar price as the standard Kone. I'll post a mini review sometime next week after it gets here and I use it for a bit.
Can we add in new keyboard talk here as well?
I quite like the look of the Roccat Valo but I would prefer something wireless. Anyone got any reccomendations? All I want is a few macros, non ergonomic shape and a full keypad, dont want the arrows rolled into the keypad. Oh and illuminated keys. I sometimes type in the dark and guessing keys is a pain.

While it looks really cool, reviews don't seem to be very favorable to it. Many of them found it to occasionally just start randomly dropping keypresses. As for a keyboard that fits what you want, I've no idea.
My Roccat Kone+ and Kave (5.1 headphones) arrived today. Totally in love with both.
The only thing I don't like about the Kone is that the sides have some weird angles that get a little uncomfortable if you don't hold it a certain way (palming it).
Everything else about it rocks. You can configure everything from within its drivers. Liftoff distance, sensitivity, pointer speed, DPI, even individually change the color of the 4 LEDs.
The Kave is a damn fine set of cans as well, but this is probably the wrong thread to talk about them.
If these last longer than Razer's products, I think I'm officially a convert.
I palm the mouse anyway, and the contours of the mouse fit me perfectly. Glad you found it worth the price after all

Yeah, I'm very much liking my Kone[+]. I just hope it has a long lifetime. That's pretty much the reason why I picked Roccat over Razer cause I keep hearing bad things about lifespans on Razer's mice. I also find the Kone[+] to be a lot nicer looking than anything Razer has too, always a plus.
Edit: The logo on it also looks like the Thundercats logo....
Hoooo!
That may be my favourite part of the mouse

So got a Roccat Kone + earlier this week, after a few days using it I am absolutely floored by it. Such a nice piece of hardware. I hope they get into the US market place because this product really should be something easy to get.
Btw I ordered mine from Performance-Pcs and got it 2 days after placing the order. If anyone was looking to get one.
Woo! I found my deathadder, hiding in a cabinet. I don't know how it got there. I think wizards did it.
I'd replaced it with a sidewinder x5, but I have to say I like the deathadder so much more, now that I'm back to it. Probably just because I use the fingertip method.
The Deathadder is nice. I have one and an old G5 which is the predecessor to the G500. I give the ergonomics to Logitech, and my old mouse lasted me a good long time too. The adjustable weights are interesting, but I just ended up putting the heaviest ones in.
The Razer is cheaper I guess. DUNNO I guess it's just personal preference in this particular category.
I miss my old Logitech Trackman. It was nice. I've always preferred trackballs to mice, anyway, and that was a pretty sweet one. Nowadays the only ones I can find anymore are wireless, and like $60, and fuck you if you think I'm paying more than $30 for a basic input device, I don't care how sweet it is.

My Kone + has developed a fault with the scroll wheel, so it's been sent off for replacement. Until then, I've had to downgrade to my brother's Logitech MX518. Man, for a gaming mouse that people swear by, it's nowhere near the Kone's league. I only have the Kone set to half of it's sensitivity capabilities and still the difference is like night and day. Even when I've set the sensitivity on the MX518 to maximum. It's like swimming in water one moment and in thick jelly the next
I am not looking forward to playing Black Ops with this thing...

My Kone + has developed a fault with the scroll wheel
Mine seems to have too, except I'm pretty sure it was a software issue. Occasionally when I was scrolling the DPI change notifications would play even though the DPI never changed. I went into the software and changed the scrollwheel sensitivity. It seems to be working fine now...
I had that issue, too, where it every now and then informed me that the DPI had changed, when it hadn't. I just turned off that voice notification and I wasn't bothered by it again. My scroll wheel seemed to have issues scrolling forward - it would scroll one or two lines down, and then go forward. Scrolling through weapons in games was hell. I contacted Roccat about it and while they didn't respond about the software telling me that the DPI had changed when it hadn't, they did say that the scroll wheel issue was more severe and that I should return it.
Waiting on tenterhooks for the replacement... the difference between the Kone and the MX518 is that with the Logitech, I actually have to move the mouse across the mousepad.

I have a Diamondback 3G that is serving me well. My friend had a Lachesis that I really liked up until recently when he got a RAT7 to replace it. That thing is hot shit. It's definitely questionable looking but all of the palm and finger rests are adjustable and once you get it where you want it it feels so nice. The extra horizontal scroll wheel is pretty awkward but still usable and the "precision" button is a great touch. When you hold it down your DPI drops to a set percentage of your choosing from the DPI the mouse is set too which also has 5 different settings. The teflon feet seem extra smooth too. Much smoother moving than his Lachesis and my Diamondback. I'm definitely considering one as my next mouse whenever this one gives out.
I had the Logitech MX518 mouse for 5-6+ years and it finally started to die on me this week. Scroll wheel unresponsive, jitterness in tracking, and then a few days ago the right click key started to go. So I had to spring for a new mouse. My backup mouse is the bluetooth MX Laser mouse (came with the logitech bluetooth keyboard), and it's just complete trash when compared to the 518. The wheel doesn't like being used as the third button and it's tracking ability is just straight shit. I keep it around solely for being a last minute backup mouse.
I picked up the G500 today and holy shit, yes, this is exactly what I was looking for. Everything the MX518 did great and then some. I love the texture on the sides for my thumb and ring finger, I like the ability to click a button to make the scroll wheel click or not, and the weights are a bonus. Great all around mouse.
Glad I looked at this thread and saw the praise for it. I was perfectly fine with just repurchasing another mx518 but wow, this thing is nice.
Yeah, my scroll wheel is doing that thing again. I'm going to contact their support.

Im still running my Logitech MX1000 laser mouse. Picked it up right after they were introduced, not sure how long ago that was now but its still trucking along. Good solid mouse.

Still, though... much love for the MX1000. What a great mouse.

I use the Logitech Performance MX mouse-- cordless, with all of the hassle that entails-- and I've become very attached to the freedom of movement which comes from a cordless mouse.
Get it, attached to a cordless ? I kill me.
Attached to such an extent that I bought a G500 just after Christmas, used it for half an hour in WOW, and then put it back in the box and re-connected the MX because dragging that cord around made such a big difference.

yea, I love the razer mice, but the cord is a deal breaker for me. I'll probably end up buying whatever new fancy mouse Logitech has out when its time to upgrade.
i have a wireless Trust Mouse (MI-7770C) that is cheap and feels very good. I used it for about two years now and since a week the scrolling wheel doesn't work anymore.
I think I will try a Apple Magic Mouse next, although it's probably not the best choice for games.

Don't.
It's fine for your Mum to check her email, but absolutely unuseable for any real use.

Disagree. I've been using one for a few weeks now on my Macbook, and I'm really liking it. Very easy and effortless to use. It has no noticeable lag, which is something I can't say for any other bluetooth mouse I've tried. It always connects instantly, and the battery lasts a really long time. BUT, I would never, ever use it for any sort of gaming. My Razer Imperator hooked up to my desktop handles that much better.

I'm in the same boat. I love the thing. I feel like the weight is perfect and I haven't really mapped any of the buttons, but I just really love how it feels.
I have pretty big hands and somewhat long fingers and for doing the "claw" kind of style grip, I'm qutie hesitant of just buying a new mouse without at least trying to give it a feel beforehand. That being said, I'm actually tempted to get the RAT 9 since I'm so attached to cordless now.
Also, how useful is mapping buttons or what do you guys generally map buttons to do? I've never really done it for fear of screwing something up or I figure I'll make due. I'm mainly looking at TF2/HL, Mass Effect, etc but I've got Starcraft 2 but haven't really booted it up yet. I'm also asking since I'm looking at getting the Logitech G35 headset and it has a couple map-able buttons.
Ok so like I said, my MX1000 is currently doing fine, except for the occasional scroll freeze then it doubles the next click, but you can get a G700 on newegg for $65 with the promo.
I just bought a Logitech G35 headset for $75 after the MIR and I don't exactly have money to throw around but if it's a good buy I may consider it more. I don't know how the tech for mice will be (more "gaming" grade in the future? although I hate that term) so I'm sort of looking for suggestions on a course of action here.
