Welcome to Let's Play Castlevania: Symphony of the Night!
Anyone unfamiliar with the Castlevania series probably shouldn't be here, so let's just talk about Symphony of the Night.
Game Info:
Released in 1997, SotN was the first Castlevania on the Playstation. It represented a departure from earlier Castlevania games, and incorporated some elements from the Metroid series of games, such as a map system, exploration based levels as opposed to linear levels, and a series of power-ups that let the player access more and more of the game. It also incorporated a leveling system similar to that of an RPG, where you gain levels from getting experience from defeating enemies. There are also spells to learns, many different kinds of weapons and armor to find, and it even retained the subweapon system found in previous Castlevanias.
Plot:
As a direct sequel to the PC Engine game Rondo of Blood, SotN carried over the characters Richter Belmont and Maria Renard. Four years have passed since the events of that game, where a Belmont once again stood victorious over Dracula. Alucard, who was previously a playable character in Castlevania 3, and who is also Dracula's son, has awoken in order to set out to defeat his father.
Characters:
Alucard
Adrian Farenheights Tepes...wait, what? I did not know that. Anyway, he is the star of Symphony of the Night. Alucard (Dracula spelled backwardsOMG) is the only son of Dracula and the human woman Lisa. Certain events shown later in SotN shed a little light on why he opposes his father.
Alucard first appeared in Castlevania III for the NES, where he was a boss. But once defeated, he became one of the few playable characters in that game. After SotN, he appeared in the GBA game Aria of Sorrow and he DS game Dawn of Sorrow as Genya Arikado. He was also in that Wii fighting game and some other Game Boy game as a boss.
Dracula
Vlad Tepes was formerly the human Mathias Cronqvist, and the events of the PS2 game Lament of Innocence reveal how he came to be Dracula. Basically, like Bram Stoker's Dracula, Mathias cursed God because of his dead wife, and used the power of the Crimson Stone, which converts vampire power into energy...anyway, then he was Dracula. That game also shows how the Belmont clan came to be Dracula's nemesis.
Dracula has been the main villain in the majority of Castlevania games in one form or another. Usually as the last boss. Does the same true in SotN? Only time will tell.
Richter Belmont
Richter Belmont was the protagonist of the 1993 PC Castlevania game Rondo of Blood. That game also had a port of sorts to the SNES in 1995 as Dracula X. Richter plays a somewhat lesser role in SotN, although he is certainly playable. In fact, he is first character the player controls, in a recreation (albeit not in difficulty) of the final battle of Rondo of Blood.
In SotN, Maria has come to Castlevania to search for the missing Richter. But will she like what she finds? Stay tuned!
More to come as the LP progresses. But not that many more, really.

This LP is played by myself, and will feature post commentary from me and some...other dudes.

Episode 1 - What is a man? Backup (Viddler)
I like this, this is a thing that I like
Umm schide don't take this the wrong way but you might want to cut down on the number of co-commentators or make them have more distinct personalities
ed: also I know you don't give a shit about talking over cutscenes but your viewers might so you might want to silence the commentary audio during a cutscene, it's ludicrously easy to do
Clarify the audio issue. Because at first I thought you meant one thing, but then I considered you meant something else. And I can't say I know enough to know for sure. But I was wondering if the audio was good enough or not. We did have a problem recording it a certain way, so I had to go a less quality way unfortunately.
I understand the concerns about having this many commentators, and how none of us would be particularly...uh, unique I guess. The next set will probably have slightly different dudes, so we'll see how that works. Actually the one guy who was supposed to do this wasn't able to today so someone else volunteered. I know, if Grease is around next time I can tell him to act extra Scottish, just for you!
And Henroid...uh, no. I'm sure someone can do that but I'm pretty sure it's not me. Maybe up to a point, but after that...
EDIT: Oh, ok. I had a feeling I didn't do the audio levels right and that they were too low. That can be fixed though.
About talking over cutscenes. I've never understood that "rule", really. But if it does bother people I'll take of that too.
you're not ducking your bg audio so the bg audio is overpowering your guys' commentary frequently
you also might want to compress the bg audio track in addition to ducking it, I dunno
also I don't know what sort of recording setup you have but sometimes your audio sounds muffled (I know Scottish guy is probably on skype or something, I'm not talking about that)
The blip conversion isn't done yet, but it'll get there.
I ended up deciding not to mute the commentary during cutscenes, because I just don't want to. We'll just have to accept that there are some things in life we can't change.
Episode 3 - Cool Shades, Bro Backup (Viddler)
Ugh, I think the Blip conversion failed again for this one. Maybe I'll go to Veoh because this is annoying.
It was only me and TSI this time because no one else could do it. We only did one video though so next time should have, uh, more varied commentary.
