Hopin to visit a few really nice places during my business trip to New York next week. Anyone have any recommendation for something in the 200 - 300$ range?
I also plan on hitting up less high class establishments and would like to visit a few places that specialize in Arabic and Indian cuisine. Maybe even a good authentic Russian restaurant. Anyone have any recommendations for these as well?

$200 - $300 for 2, I assume? $300 per head is a bit out of my tax bracket, lol.
Are you looking for quality dining or fancy forms?
though i guess the dinner is only 150 bucks or something, but with wine you know, thats up there
it is great, i went there for a fancy lunch once, it is a hell of a place
(i guess you could do per se or jean georges or some shit if you are truly feeling baller though, but EMP is grand)
well i can think of a bunch of fancy places i'd like to go
however for arabic and indian i don't ever think of high class when i think of those but i know some decent places that aren't expensive umm i just need to think (though around the corner from my workplace is http://www.yelp.com/biz/tamarind-new-york-4 which is a fancy indian place, seems to have good reviews)
Per Se is really up there in that price range if you're looking for a high class dining experience. Plus you can grab drinks at the Clo Wine Bar outside while you're waiting - the owner is a really cool dude, and he has a lot of funny stories to tell about his winemaking operation in Argentina.

Beaten to the Punch. Feel free to try Aureole in the BAML tower. It's pretty damn good. Peter Luger's is a staple amongst carnivore financier types. Esca is supposed to be good if you like seafood. I'll circle back around with more recommendations.
We also have some absolutely baller Indian places, but they're not exactly high class dining.

Indeed. The best Saag in the city is at Ruschi in FiDi. Good aptmosphere, but cheap eating. Hell, they don't even have a liquor license so it's BYO Wine.
Yeah, definitely don't need the arabic or indian places to be high class. I just hear and read tons of things about how great they are, so I definitely want to go.
Only place I know of is this french place that Bourdain raved about. But I dunno. I'm not a huge huge fan of French food. Especially ancient French food like Celery Remoulade.
I look forward to hanging out with you guys, Shaz.

You could always grab an amazing burger at Rare.... mmmmmm M&M burger......
Brick Lane
Indus Valley (up in the boonies around Columbia but Chicken Zafrani will melt souls with its goodness)
Most places around (Curry) Murray Hill for South Indian.
Also check into Ethiopian/Eritreian fare. It's quite excellent.

I went to Rare the other week man... meh? Given the price and all. And I'll be honest I even prefer Shake Shack to that.
Well Shake Shack makes the best goddamn burger in the world, but waiting on line and doing the "BITCH I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU THAT SEAT IS MINE!" thing isn't much fun.
That said, Rare has a nice sit down aptmosphere and the fry sampler is pretty fucking phenomenal. Sweet Potatoe fries with maple dipping sauce, please.

Just go to the one on 77th and Columbus, barely any wait and you can usually get a seat..and you're inside...or in nice weather the fountain at the museum of natural history is right there.
Anyway, doesn't Per Se have a 2 month waiting list? As in, you have to call EXACTLY 2 months before you want to go there? Or has that gone away with the crap ass economy and all?

I can never understand the unerring love for shake shack. There are better burger places in the city at a reasonable multiple of the price and quality of the food that actually let you sit down and take less time. And plus, if I can afford it? 5N all the way.

Shake Shack is...okay. Burger Joint is the best in the city I think, and it's something of a poorly-kept secret. It's in Le Parker Meridian Hotel on W 57th between 6th and 7th...the only sign for it is a glowing neon burger. Also the line.

See, to me, Burger Joint is just a frilly take on In-n-Out. So glorified fast food, basically quick, cheap and mediocre. I'll never really understand people's tastes on the issue. I'd take popburgers instead for the novelty and quality shakes if we're going for quick and meh.
Hell, my college stomping grounds up on 110th street has Varelli, which I'd take over any of the trendy fast food plus burger places. The one exception being that burger from shake shack with two patties, and a stuffed fried mushroom in the middle. That thing is pretty heavenly.

I never go that far north, so I haven't had the chance to go to Varelli yet. And from what I've heard Five Guys is a closer east coast representation of In-n-Out, though pricier and without the same spirit. But seriously good fries...mmm...
Getting back to non-burger selections in the city, though, and for your price range Sheep, I'd suggest A.J. Maxwell's in Midtown. You'll probably spend $40-50 on an entree, plus $12 or so per side item (they are large enough to be split a couple ways). They have great appetizers as well, but the desserts are lackluster at best.

Christ guys, do we only eat good burgers up in here? Sheep asked for quality dining and all we offer him is heart diesease.
Maybe we should move the beef fight over to fine steaks.
Luger v. Smith v. Delmonico. GO!
Peter Luger's obviously.
To add another recommendation to the pile: Uva on the Upper east side. It's a wine/bar itallian bistro with an amazing selection and you can get well fed and drank for a fair bit under $200.

Or just go to 2 Brothers Pizza. It's like $3 for two slices and a drink. That'll impress your business partners!

Yeah, when you start getting into pizza or falafel, opinions are widespread and overwhelming in number. I like Grimaldi's in Brooklyn for pizza, but the line is usually just not worth it. You'd probably be better off just taking your chances with a random pizzaria. Just for the love of all that's holy don't go to a Sbarro...you can eat that crap anywhere, and it's expensive as hell here. For falafel...godspeed man. I tend to stick to cart halal food, so I don't know any nice restaurants that have great falafel...but don't overlook the carts!
If you want some awesome non-traditional pizza, go to Artichoke on 14th st between 1st and 2nd. Their artichoke spinach pizza is $4.50 a slice, but it's huge (meal sized, basically) and delicious.
Also they have an amazing creepy portrait of the Kennedys.
luger's is overrated
their steak is pretty good but nothing spectacular, their creamed spinach is to die for, but thats about it. The bread was like eating rocks ad their waitstaff are pretentious assholes who don't understand what it is to be in the service industry. Just because you have a michelin star doesnt mean you can treat your patrons like you're better than them and forget about customer service. Also, what the hell kind of restaurant in this day and age that does the business lugers does, still doesnt accept credit cards. Thats just ridiculous. The pretentiousness is astounding. Personally make yourself a steak or go to another nice steakhouse if thats what you're feeling like having.

Eleven Madison Park's menu now just lists key ingredients. Some crazy mad change they did. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/08/dining/08humm.html
5 Napkin is always a better choice than Rare imo.
Some great Indian:

when did that place open
i ain't never been there
Luger's is definitely nice. Although Benjamin Steakhouse isn't bad, it's near Grand Central, so it's good for people visiting.
Most of the places I know are north of 79th Street
True?
Also, who makes the best falafel?
depends on where you are really
my vote for best falafel goes to Taim
but there are other decent places
but ive had lots of other good and different pizza, but sal & carmine's is pretty good
zombieland / social network actor guy agrees with me according to a newspaper clipping in the place
False. There are countless solid pizza places that are completely indistinguishable from the tourist trap ones.
Umm dude.... we can't even agree on burgers. Good luck trying to find falafel consensus.
We shall go to Taim. You have sold me, Shaz.
