His name is Boris Kustodiev, he lived in Russia in the early 20th century, and he was a member of the Mir Iskusstva movement.
He likes to use colors:
And paint cool people like Chaliapin:
Maybe I'm just out of it, but I very rarely hear about the Mir Iskusstva people, and they are awesome and should get more appreciation. (It's a weird little time period -- Russia in the teens and twenties -- and it also produced some of my favorite poetry. Beautiful things that never had a chance to last.)

I like socialist realism, or socrealism, as I learned it. It's a very specific sort of realism that was developed by the government of the USSR in order to promote communism. More than the style of it, I like the history of it though, because the people who practiced it became so disillusioned in the progress of the Soviet Union in its early days that things happened like them writing poetry in their own blood and committing suicide, as in the case of Sergei Yesenin.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Stop forcing people to click on threads, you monsters!
Love that the person complaining about art threads is the person with the sig banner pimping their photography. Ha ha, the internet.

Hanga: it's more than just Hokusai's "Great Wave."
it also features hokusai's "dream of the fisherman's wife"
I actually like constructivism better.
