I'm not really a big fan of this movie, but Gummo was pretty messed up.

There is bacon taped to the wall of that bathroom.
The film was shot in some of Nashville's poorest neighborhoods. Producer Cary Woods comments, "we're essentially seeing the kind of poverty that we're used to seeing in Third World countries when news crews are covering famines, [but] seeing that in the heart of America." One small home housed fifteen people and several thousand cockroaches. Bugs literally crawled up and down the walls.[1] Korine comments, "we had to take out stuff to be able to put the camera in the room."[6] At times, the crew rebelled against filming in such conditions and Korine was forced to purchase hazmat suits for them to wear. Korine and Escoffier, who thought this was offensive, "wore Speedos and flip-flops just to piss them off."[4]

    I appreciate what kubrik did

but my god it is slowest paced movie ever

and I've seen seven years in tibet
Yeah I mean I'm not gonna say it's bad or whatever

that is not an argument I am prepared to get into

Its big failing is that it tries to be three films, one after the other

there is the short film at the beginning about finding the artifacts

then there is the feature length about a psychopathic computer

then it is a weird film about the nature of human experience

you have to go in expecting all three or you'll be sitting there bored wondering why they are at all connected

I've heard 2001 becomes a much better movie if you watch it in fast forward.

Also, I've never seen Shutter Island but the book was pretty good.

That's not a failing - Kubrick achieved exactly what he wanted with it. You or others might not personally enjoy the method of storytelling, but that doesn't make it a failing on his part.

This could be considered a failing of the modern youth attention span as much as anything. I hated 2001 the first time I saw it, early on in college. Now, I love it and wouldn't change the pacing for the world.
