Critical Failures - Havenhold Campaign • August St. Cloud (Human Ranger)
Was it just the fx changes, or something else?
Pretty much. I was at the end of my subscription.
Critical Failures - Havenhold Campaign • August St. Cloud (Human Ranger)
On my Galaxy I'm running 3 phaser arrays and a quantum torp up front and 2 phaser arrays and a quantum torp in back. Seems to perform well so far.
My Galaxy(-esque) is running a quantum torpedo, a plasma array, a dual plasma array and a plasma cannon up front.
In the rear slots I've got a pair of plasma arrays and the Breen torpedo.
My Tac officer has Fire at Will and High Yield torpedo.
It's a pretty good setup for an alpha strike between the q.torps and the dual plasma array (note: since the D.Plasma array only fires in a 90degree arc, it stays on target when under the Fire at Will effect). After that my Engineer BO hits emergency power to weapons to recharge them, and I can do the whole "slowly fly in a circle thing while broadsiding the hell out of my target" that is the cruiser's bread and butter.
If I can keep my target just a little ahead of my midline, I can chew it up with 3 arrays and my cannon, then hit evasive maneuvers to turn away and hit them with the Breen torp.
For added fun against fighters, my Engineer also has the "dump warp plasma" ability, which works great against those damned gnats, or anything that's too speedy for you to line up on if you can dump the cloud in the right place.
Yes, I like plasma. Why do you ask?
I only just started the game and I'm still a Lieutenant, but this game really scratches my Star Trek itch.
I've got good/bad news for you, depending on how you view MMO's.
They added an end-game. And they're adding more end-game features soon, too.
Money seems to be pretty easy to get in this game. So far I've been able to get all the ships I want, and the gear has come from loot drops. I'm only LC 8 and I've already got enough credits for a second Commander ship.
Of course, I don't have uber loot from the exchange or anything.
Does money slow down when you get to captain and such, or is it pretty steady?
What is the end game? What do people do once they are at their XP cap?
Right now, there's three working STFs, which are basically high difficulty missions that require 5 players (bridge officers won't cut it). They're fixing the fourth one for season 3's release, and adding another at some point. The three borg ones are getting a special set of borg ship components added.
There's also an emblem grind for mk xi blue/purple gear (which can get pretty soul crushing when you look at the cost of engines and shields), and the diplomacy system (you usually won't hit ambassador while leveling) as a secondary advancement scale.
Then there's the feature episodes - the third of which is set to start soon. Not really endgame, since they scale to your level and so far have been available at fairly low levels, but anyway... While one's running, a new mission comes out every Saturday. They're generally a cut above normal missions in difficulty, are just generally much better missions than the Federation story missions, and have special unique rewards not available except from them. Each series so far came with new repeatable missions, and finishing one before the next starts gives a special limited-edition reward (so far they've been a Breen bridge officer and the Devidian snake cane as seen in TNG).
Lastly, mission replay... Not really an endgame since it's available from the start, but it's something to do. You can go back and replay missions you've already done, some of which give special bonus rewards when you do. This won't hit until the next patch, but they did add some very nice replay rewards to the Undine front (including a spectacular purple universal console), and if you're at the level cap you can get some amazing mk XI blues from replaying feature episodes.
I'll be honest: It's a sparse endgame. There isn't a weekly raid rotation and pushing for that last boss before the next tier is released. But considering that at launch, once you hit the level cap you had the option of rerolling or running explore missions until your eyes bleed, it is at least an endgame.
You should figure out a way to funnel funds over to our Klingon fleet. It is in desperate need of funds for banking and so forth. Nak and I tried selling little things for insane prices so the other one could buy them, but neither of us could see the things on the exchange.
There are no data sources on the Klingon side yet.
It's more of figuring out a way to launder money over to the other side. Apparently the AH isn't an option for some reason.
And what about neutral zones? I see alot of mixed zones, for random explorer missions.
I've never tried trading EC with an opposing faction before. I don't know if it would. The station from the Devidian missions would be the only place to meet. Let me try that.
I want that science ship. Then I'll buy an escort, base it on the Akira class. The cruisers at that level all look pretty dull.
Edit: I hope I can play a lot tonight. When the patch drops it will probably take me a day or two to patch up, since I think the tribble patch was like 2.5GB.
Well, remember, if this was your first patch on tribble, it downloads EVERYTHING - even stuff that isn't part of the new patch.
There's also stuff on tribble that won't be out in the season 3 patch - the foundry isn't supposed to go to holodeck tomorrow.
Of course, their files don't seem to be built for easy modification, either, so even patches that change two minor things run a few hundred megs...
