You absolutely do, I remember reading. You start off as a beat cop and over the course of the game make your way up the ranks to things like homicide and undercover, and you can be on the straight and narrow or go corrupt if you like.
For some reason I have a strange deja vu feeling from the movie Mulholland Falls. I love that movie for some reason (it seems everyone I've mention this movie to thought that was a terrible movie for some reason). Maybe it was because of Jennifer Connelly, I like that movie.:winky:
Well w/e, I'm going to play it like Mulholland Falls, be a part of the untouchables team, who uphold the law any way they deem fit. Hat squad, ho!
This game will meet my expectations if they have dialogue like Mulholland Falls.
Lieutenant Max Hoover: See, that's federal property. This isn't. This is L.A. This is my town. Out here you're a trespasser. Out here I can pick you up, burn your house, f--k your wife, and kill your dog. And the only thing that'll protect you is if I can't find you. And I already found you.

It's funny how Rockstar has gone from Original GTA with total destruction and rampages, to the loyal but still morally questionable Nico Bellic, to John Marston and his tale of redemption, to a game where you will be directly in the shoes of the law.
That is if you don't get the opportunity to be a bent cop.
The trailer makes it pretty clear that you can bend the law. The line, "Tell us or we'll drag you into the alley and beat it out of you," while awesome, is not conducive to a legal investigation.

I just took that to be good cop, bad cop.
Will be cool to find out how deep the ways you can change the course of a case will be. Taking bribes, removing / planting evidence, etc.
Although this isn't by Rockstar, I'm still super excited and will definitely be following things closely. Even if ends up not reaching anywhere near the bar RDR set, I'll still be in heaven to be playing LA Confidential: the Game.
I assume Rockstar have had a heavy hand in the production of the cutscenes and the voice talent.
Because, that stuff alone is enough to make me want to play this game. It looks amazing
No doubt that there are some issues here and there - but thats because this is the first iteration of whatever techniques they are using here. It's far from perfect, but pretty fucking impressive nonetheless.
Maybe this is completely off, but I get the feeling that Rockstar are basically overseeing this project à la Nintendo/Retro with Metroid Prime.
In any case, they have certainly had both the time and the finances to make this a potentially great game.

My excitement flew out the window when I heard it's going to be a mostly linear game like Mafia. Sure, you can explore the city, but not much else. I'm not asking for bank robberies or anything like that, but side missions that include say investigating minor cases, finding a way to break up a drug chain, arresting gang leaders that can result in a firefight if your not careful, finding gang hideouts by looking for clues and keeping an eye on members where you can lead the police to it and you could partake in shutting it down yourself.

That's a shame
Definitely brings my excitement down a few notches

I disagree entirely. When I play a game called LA Noire, I want to focus on well-crafted crime investigation, using my wits to solve a mystery. Not everything has to be an open world game. There are plenty of games that do the open world thing well. This is trying something new. I like new. I want new.

Having an open world city is a shame if you can't do anything in it.
Also notice I don't want jetpack races or killing civilians, I think the side missions I described are pretty ideal for this type of thing. No going to a crime syndicate and just blasting everyone either.
I disagree. Populating an open world with a bunch of dumb, repetitive side missions and minigames lessens the overall experience. Having an open world, even if it is "empty," helps strengthen the atmosphere of a linear game

Ooh. Noir-themed game.
Going to have to keep an eye on this one when it releases. Now I suddenly want to watch Gun Crazy and Double Indemnity again...

Didn't they say that there would be multiple cases you could take and multiple ways to investigate them
If there's that much choice in the mission structure and within the mission itself, having an open world might be an important part of that process
Like "i want to find out who murdered this lady, should i go to her husband's place or her workplace or a friend's place"

This is exactly the case.
What they don't have is random crimes popping up over the city that you can drive to and bust to earn bonus points, because a goddamn LA homicide detective doesn't take a break in the middle of his case to bust some perps.

That sounds way more appropriate for this game then adding a bunch of open world minigames / sidequests.
Though the thought of finding clues (or even hidden dead bodies?) that open additional, hidden side quests is also mildly intriguing. As long as whatever they add flows back into the style of the world and gameplay, I'm for it.

It's weird. The faces, the animation, the textures, all looks incredible. But I hate the way the voices sound. It's like they're playing it in the room while the person is moving his mouth, rather than them actually talking.
But it looks incredible. Fingers crossed.

The closer we get to true digital actors, the more we notice those tiny imperfections in the technology that prevent us from believing they are truly real. Welcome to the Uncanny Valley.
I'm hoping for DLC in the form of Police Squad investigations.

1) HELL YEAH JOHN NOBLE
2) Fucking Jesus Christ those 3D facial animations are absolutely uncanny
3) I am going to be the worst detective because I am bad at telling when people are lying
4) The sound quality issue is certainly there, but I imagine they're polishing that up for release. It's not something they would ignore after inventing an entire technology just to animate faces
5) I could not be more excited for this video game
