The only way I would be more excited about this game is if it was set in the American west. Say around... 1910.
But seriously, this looks excellent. The lip-syncing is phenomenal. I just hope it avoids RDR's "whole game tutorial" issue. Let me finish learning all the stuff and get access to all the cool bits before the final mission, please.

This is a criticism that I had trouble putting into words at the time.
That's so true about RDR. To a certain extent it's true about GTAIV as well. The amount of handholding in R* games it just exsessive.
It was especially annoying in GTAIV when there were sequences like "Hang onto this van while it drives around trying to shake you off" and it taught you how to do it as it was happening. And then it never, ever happened again.
I hated that shit.
I loved both games though. And by the looks of it I will love LA: Noire regardless of if it handholds exsessively, but it's a habit R* need to get out of. Since this is being developed by a different team I am hopeful.

Man, I can't wait to interrogate a perp in this. I've already got Christopher Walken's monologue from 'True Romance' in my head just thinking about it.
"Sicilians are great liars. The best in the world. I'm Sicilian. My father was the world heavy-weight champion of Sicilian liars. From growing up with him I learned the pantomime. There are seventeen different things a guy can do when he lies to give himself away. A guys got seventeen pantomimes. A woman's got twenty, but a guy's got seventeen... but, if you know them, like you know your own face, they beat lie detectors all to hell."
Now I'm considering the possibility of doing a playthrough as close to Gene Hunt as possible.
Holy shit, this is now my most anticipated game of the year. The gameplay vid on the site looks crazy. I wonder how they're going to handle multiple failed cases. Multiple endings? A simple 'Game Over'? Cutscene/plot shenanigans to force the story to one conclusion?
I can see it go either way. Either knowing who did it completely takes the wind out of it's sails, or the case itself could play out in all these different ways, lines of questioning, knowing how to break a case wide open, all that. Just as likely that there could be a lot of satisfaction to be gained from a second play through.
And if not, well, it's a Rockstar game. They are long as shit to begin with.
Given the plethora of games on my plate right now, the more punch packed in the first playthrough the better.
I agree. I tend to worry about replay but then I know I rarely go back and play anything anyway.
Is this game not as open-worldy as other Rockstar stuff?
The press stuff I looked at seemed to suggest there was more than a single case, even if the bulk of the story is a single case.
The gameplay video mentioned something about being able to take different types of cases. I don't know if that means "linearly taking different types" or doing an arson case, then a murder investigation and then back to another arson.
Based on their output pretty much since GTA 3, I'd say that Rockstar is one of the companies best at combining the strengths of games and movies. There's something eminently cinematic about almost all of their offerings, yet the games never feel like those dreadful 'interactive movies'.
RDR is one of my favourite games of the last five years - based on the trailers and preview material, this is an absolute must buy.

I'm not really into westerns though, would that be a problem?
Well, God will deal with you when the time comes
But yes, RDR is that damn awesome. It has...quibbles but overall it's an incredibly solid game, probably the best Rockstar product so far.
I can't believe how much more I'm looking forward to this. I was happy with GTA Hollywood Noir, but all the adventure game stuff is unexpected and awesome
EDIT: SHIT fuck goddammit, I am trying to game on a budget and they are putting this shit out a fucking week before Infamous 2. Guess I have to actually start saving money like a chump I miss buying things on a whim
I've got RDR sitting, waiting to be played as part of a christmas/birthday fuelled backlog of awesome games I missed last year. Can't wait to get started on it. I may have to put on a cowboy hat and occasionaly blow into a harmonica while I wander through the desert.
Man, all this RDR talk makes me want to try it out. Is it really that awesome? I'm not really into westerns though, would that be a problem?
I wasn't into westerns

If I could I would erase my memory of anything involving RDR.
Just so I could play it again fresh because it was the best gaming experience I have ever had. In my 30 years of gaming. Ever.

I'm not quite as excited for this as I was for RDR, which rewarded my patience. This will probably be a rent for me. Also, is the dot only cross hair Rockstar's.... Thing? In RDR I didn't mind it so much and in GTA sometimes the lines blocks peoples heads for some reason. I also have bad visibility in GTA compared to RDR but that's not the point.
Thing that excites me in the interrogation, the stopping bank robberies, and seeing if people will act hilariously retarded in the interrogations.
I had no interest in this game a month ago. Then I played RDR. Now I look forward to whatever Rockstar has to offer. I just pray it isn't all atmosphere and narrative again and that the gameplay can match those two categories.
Call me strange, but I find myself wondering what weapons we'll get in this game. Late 1940s, would love to see some classic guns like the Garand. Thompson should be a given.

But you're playing as a cop and I feel they're going to keep it authentic, did the cops use Tommy guns back then?

You travel from the American West, into the heart of a revolution in Mexico, then back, and now you find some goddamn binoculars.
This is a criticism that I had trouble putting into words at the time.

God damn I wasted so much time looking for those binoculars.

Oh my lord.

I just about lived through the long wait for RDR, I'm not sure I can do that again ....
I may go on a media blackout this time, and just read reviews on release before getting it.
Then enjoy it the first time you play it!
Yeah, that's a bit of a weird thing to start worrying about now. Did you not buy Red Dead because there wasn't a lot of replayability?
I agree. I tend to worry about replay but then I know I rarely go back and play anything anyway.

Which sounds pretty rad. I think part of the appeal of the game is taking on all these slightly episodic mysteries.
Yep, this. I re-watched and you're right. I was too busy being in awe of the facial animations the first time, I guess.
Godspeed, Ironsides.

I refuse to watch the video, though.
The shooting looks like GTA but a bit better
It is also an adventure game
It has adventure game elements
If this is a hit, I hope that bit ends up having a bit of influence on other games
Outside of having a new great game to play, this is exactly why I hope this game is successful.
Man, I wanted to be surprised.
