In my experience stat boosting stuff makes the game easier (read: less fun) so I'm going to go with the DLC my work is getting. The DLC thing kinda ticks me off, but I'm going to be getting the game anyway so at least I'll get one of the extra cases.

Apparently you rank up through different 'desks' which will probably start out with just punks on the street, small time violence and adjusting to the clue hunting and solving mechanics, before gradually moving onto harder crimes.
Being promoted to vehicular chases and gunfights against gangs as a Vice cop then finally more cerebral work and sleuthing on bigtime historical murders and serial killers as the games unique qualities win over the casual kids who think its another GTA in favor of the brilliance of a new genre. At least that is my hope.

Still looks awesome. One thing that worries me is the gunplay. I know they have to show some in these trailers, but I hope it doesn't consume a large portion of the game. I'd rather investigation and exploration take center stage.

I think there was a video prior that showed like 5 secs of gunplay. It looked very GTA with hiding.
I was hoping the original post would state what and where the bonus stuff from pre-ordering from gamestop versus amazon versus walmart, etc. I haven't pre-ordered yet. I'm waiting on what the different pre-orders are.
I vaguely remember gamestop is getting an extra mission and walmart is getting a different extra mission and amazon is just getting some character skin (doesn't seem even compared to the other 2).

Actual missions being retail specific bonuses are what I find a bit perplexing. I can see clothes or a weapons, those kind of things are small "nice to have" items, but not actual story content. Yes, I'm sure they are mere side quests that don't matter in the grand scheme of the entire story, but still. More and more companies are working on and finishing DLC content well before the game even goes gold and as a consumer you can help but feel a bit let down that it wasn't added into the box for everyone.
We've had this argument/discussion 100 times though. Oh well.
Great to see the bonuses will be made available soon. Retail specific bonuses is still, and always will be, bullshit of the highest order.
This I'm glad about - even with the ridiculousness of 'Gotta buy it from here if you want the cool shit!'. They've said multiple times that they plan to have the DLC available much earlier than they did with RDR.
When L.A. Noire ships for PlayStation 3 next month, the game will include an exclusive mission called "Consul's Car Traffic Case."
Details about the mission are not known. A Rockstar representative said they'll have more information coming soon. Separate case missions are also available to those who pre-order the game at participating Walmart stores called "A Slip of the Tongue" and at GameStop called "The Naked City" for both PS3 and Xbox 360.
L.A. Noire is set for release on May 17, 2011.
While it's not a retailer specific bonus, it's still alienating anyone planning on getting this for their 360. Also, no mention was given as to whether or not this will show up paid DLC for 360 users.
Rockstar also had exclusive content for the PS3 version of Red Dead, so I guess we shouldn't be all that surprised.
I ended up regretting getting the PS3 version of Red Dead after finding out and seeing for myself the stark visual differences between it and the 360 version. I believe Grand Theft Auto 4 had similar issues, too. Based on Rockstar's multiplatform history with the two systems, I'll probably keep my 360 pre-order.

This games trailers are awesome in that without speaking a word, you get a sense of what actors will be showing up at some points in the game. Good on them.
Unco-ordinated can state it definitively, but I'm pretty sure that was the case.
Yeah, I'm almost certain it was announced as an exclusive. But it was announced 5 years ago, when the Playstation brand was still dominate and the 360 had yet to prove itself.

I can confirm that. But I'm not certain this translates to the PS3 being the lead platform. We don't know how many iterations the game went through.
The second thread popping up reminded me that I should update the OP a bit what with the release being very close. I will get on that when I have access to my desktop again on Saturday.
Game is looking sharp from what I have seen so far.

On a related note, what are peoples thoughts on the preorder bonuses? I think I'll skip the stat boosting stuff and go for one of the expansion cases.
I'm such a sucker for period pieces.

I fear that it might be hard to maintain the feeling of being an investigator with gun battles erupting after every third suspect questioning.

It must be nice to be so idealistic.

Released on a day with stiff competition, this game is already going to be my first choice. So I really should stop watching things about it.

Given that I will not be spending any money in Gamestop or Walmart, I guess I'm looking at a fancy suit.

It's not too far away, yeah.
Which is a tough stance to take since I love Rockstar trailers.

Sadly, I can see this also becoming a reality.

Whatever, unless this case is utterly amazing I don't think it will matter.
Brief cases, if you know what I mean.

RDR in my experience ran and looked better on 360, but I don't know about LAN.
