Printing and framing a book cover.

So with Christmas looming, I was looking into gifts to get my girlfriend. As the title suggests I was thinking about trying to get a scan of her favourite book, blowing it up to poster size and framing it.

The question is whether printing companies can actually print off posters such as these, or will it be copyright infringement? I'm in the UK if that makes a difference.

No printer will do that, sorry!

Contact the artist and see if they have the rights to sell you a poster of it. Probably not, but its worth a shot.

Scanning something, even at high resolution, won't let you blow it up much larger than the original without distortion.

Nope! Most artist's contracts for book illustrations allow them to keep the rights too, and most publishers only get limited rights.

What wakka means is that no printer SHOULD do that, but some will. I once had a card sized image blown up to around 12" x 9". The quality wasnt bad, either. A book to poster size? You're going to get pixellation and blechiness but it can be done. ALTHOUGH. you SHOULD contact the publisher instead, I agree. I am not sure
of the legality of the whole thing - I was 13 when I had the card done.

Another option: try the rasturbator. Turns your image into vector dots.
Looks like nothing up close, but like the image from afar. I did this to some photos for a retirement party (3" x 5" images) and blew them up to 3' tall poster and they looked great from about 3 feet away.

Like others have said, it's technically illegal without permission from the copyright holder. Publisher might be able to put you in touch with the original artist. Thats assuming it isnt so old that its public domain. What book is it?

It's actually 2 books I was wanting to do.

3 men in a boat because it's her favourite book and The Lies of Locke Lamora because she adores the cover.
