s So, the left shift key, the T key, the Y key and the whole number row from ` to backspace have stopped working on my laptop. Also, something is making the cursor seemingly randomly return to the top of the page. Dell laptop - inspiron 1501. Any ideas on how to approach this problem
I sloshed a little water on it last night, so I hadn't been thinking about installing/uninstalling things.
I could try it, but I've never done it before. Seems like I would just click uninstall under the devices section of the control panel - is it as easy to reinstall?
I had been thinking of popping off the top panel and making sure the keyboard ribbon was securely connected and cleaning out any dust/moisture.
Anyone ever done that? I'd hate to break the panel by accident.
I'm no expert, but the first step would probably be to ensure that it dries out. You can, if you haven't already, try a reboot. Sometimes things get a little wacky and need a reset to work properly.
If it still doesn't work, you may need a new keyboard.
If, for some reason, the water has nothing to do with this then re-installing the drivers (I always download them from the manufacturer or other trusted source, Dell should have a whole page, before uninstalling through device manager) could help.
Yeah, I wiped and blowdryered the thing to get it dry. It wasn't a very large amount of water.
I'll try the drivers before I order a new keyboard.
It was pretty simple to get the top panel off. I'm having trouble disconnecting the keyboard ribbon though. It says there is some kind of latch you flip up, but it doesn't show what that latch look like. I'm reluctant to randomly pry up pieces.
