I've just got my new computer, and I need to get my music onto this new computers harddrive. Is there a free program that can get the music off my iPod onto the computer

EphPod, though the interface can be a bit wonky in my opinion.

I third this. It's free, and it's great, because you install it on the actual iPod.

Meaning you can use it with whatever computer you plug your iPod into, without needing to download anything else.

If you already use iTunes, here's something I did recently that really did the trick without any additional software. It's really quite a hack, but it works, which is the important thing.

Plug in your iPod, so it shows up as another drive under My Computer. Bring up iTunes, go into the options and set a location for your music library, where you want your music to go, and make sure 'Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library' and 'Keep iTunes Music folder organized' are checked.

Next, browse to the iPod, make sure the 'Show hidden files/folders' option is on in Windows, go to the 'iPod_Control' folder (it's hidden), then drag and drop the 'Music' folder into iTunes. What happens here, iTunes will import all your music from the iPod, and even though the filenames are obscured, all the tag information (artist, album, etc) is still there, so iTunes will put all your music back into place according to the tags, inside your music folder.

    It worked for me. :)

I'll second the above. You don't need any other software, just drag all those folders somewhere on your computer.
