I'm trying to install Windows 7 on a new hard drive. Strangely, my DVD drives (yes, they are DVD drives, not just CD drives) will read only my old Windows XP install disc - and it'll do it flawlessly. However, the Windows 7 disc will not run at all. I keep getting told that there's no valid media in the disc drive. I've commanded my computer to only boot from CD drives, and it still thinks there's nothing there. I've checked all the connections, the drives are both powered on and connected to the motherboard. Any ideas?
Well, I've used this disc to install before. In the interim period it's been in its case, so I can pretty much guarantee it isn't damaged.
Edit: And I remember it being kind of tough to get my DVD drives to read the disc before. I also remember them working without me knowing what fixed them, so even though I've had this problem in the past, they mysteriously got fixed and I still don't know what to do about it.

You dont have another computer to test it in?
Might just be a bad disk, try throwing a few other disks in the computer if you dont have another one to test the Win7 disk in.

if that fails, go buy a new dvd drive
