I'm already emptying my wallet of any pictures of friends, children, pets, family, and significant others. That way I'll never be tempted to pull one out and get misty-eyed over how long it is until my next furlough.

But Bursar... that's the best part!
How do you remind yourself what's worth fighting for when all hope is lost and you're the last fireteam alive (you think).
This is exactly why I signed up to pilot an attack sub. Less chance of stray torpedoes from the AIs.
Oh no you don't get normal run of the mill anti-personnel torpedoes shot at you.
You get the awesome ANTI-SHIP torpedoes fired at you. They're many times bigger. I'll stay up here and kill things with my plasma cannons that work in air thank you.
I made sure that I have a special ejector seat that will propel me out of of doomed sub, up out of the water, only to be picked up by my Xcom Interceptor which is remote following and will take me back to my base at Linksville.

does your interceptor have an ejector seat that shoots you straight into the sea so your attack sub can pick you up?

I'm getting the feeling we all are getting clones. Because I'm afraid our list of vict.. i mean volunteers will be too short. Unless chiasaur is just as good as our above ground director.

Glad to have you all aboard.
As you may be aware, comparatively little of our research budget has been spent in the past on aquatic combat. It means the majority of our current arsenal is unavailable, and given the failure of recent negotiations with Yeltsin, we will be initially operating with underpowered equipment.
Several options present themselves
1) A modified version of our current medical system that would allow our current armor to be repaired without breeching, allowing for first aid without immediate grisly death.
2) Motion sensors modified to account for ocean movement and similar, allowing them to be used in our current operation
3) Adaptation of [CLASSIFIED] technology to remove all non native components and compensate for catastrophic system failure when exposed to saltwater to allow for somewhat superior weapon systems.
Theidar showed me how to crack into your memos from the science team, and having read the writeup on the new technology, I'm really excited to have it mounted on my chassis. If you know what I mean. Anything that helps me pulverize some xenoscum. !vote 3

Because without the ability to patch suits and people without a medical facility, even the tiniest breach becomes a major issue.
This results in a very very rapid turnover, as one stray shot can give an aquanaut a death sentence as he or she slowly bleeds to death, and possibly drowns depending on if that shot hit the SCUBA unit. Also, any experienced aquanauts are forced to hang back, lest they get hit once.
If it's not too late, I'd like to Sign Up for a place on the wait list for a terrifyingly short life spent gazing into the icy abyss, while also being stared into by said abyss.
Perhaps, by fighting these monsters, we will prove ourselves their better in every way.
Also: Vote !1, advanced weapon tech doesn't do us any good if there's no one left alive to use it.
Also, the longer the early cannon fodder lasts, the greater the chance that I'll have access to the good stuff when (if) my name gets drawn.
sign up!
When I command a unit in a situation like this, my squad always ends up dead and then I run out of money and aliens conquer Earth. Maybe I'll have more luck as a soldier. If I die a grisly death, that will be ample punishment for my previous crimes against humanity.
Also, I vote for medkits! Like see317 says, I want the first waves to last longer so that I get nice big guns and armour when I join up.
Are you sure those are the lobsters we are gonna fight? I thought they were armed with weapons en stuff. If their clamps are tied up also, we are gonna kick their asses with ease. This is gonna be easy.
I look forward to serving with these honorable men. I have but one life to give for my species, but after some training at West Point I do suggest that we develop suitable counter measures to reduce combat fatalities ((!vote medkit).

As much as I would love get a-crackin' on some new guns, I must admit that unless we can save the guys we got, there's little chance of anyone being around to use anything I happen to crank out.
So one quick question based on the following:
1.) I haven't played this game for over a decade
2.) I only joined up after catching this one and giving the last one a quick glance
Did they ever fix the "you can never win" bug? Its what made me stop playing oh so many years ago.

!medkits
flash cloning sucks. Rather sit in bed for a few days/weeks/months/years and get better.
Besides, if people stay alive, we don't have to train new people to use all tha fancy gear.
No because what if you are over land when you're shot down?
That would end terribly.
Eh. There's way more water than land. I'll take the thing that will have the higher chance of being useful. Besides. At this stage of the game, if I go down in my interceptor, I bloody deserve to.
Queue me going down in my first mission in an interceptor
As said previously, medikits are useless until we have armor capable of taking a hit without depressurizing and liquefying us ground-pounders underneath the sea. We need to focus on hitting the bogies hard and accurately! vote #3, for more killing!

Didn't you get that optional upgrade?

!Vote 1, medkits are very very important.
No because what if you are over land when you're shot down?
That would end terribly.
I would like my loadout to be comprised of one gun and twenty first aid kits.
First aid is good. Employee turnover is going to be ridiculously high, I fear, so anything to stem that is important.

We need health kits, really.

Maaaan, did you ever join up for the wrong outfit.
If I'm going to volunteer for a suicide mission, I better have the best damn gun you can give me so I can take out as many of them as I can.
