Well, we may have lost a soldier, but look on the bright side! I now have six more alien corpses and one human corpse to dissect. Doesn't that just make it all worth it?
Well, since crewman whatshisname got blown up by a grenade, I'm sure his remains are of more value to weapons research rather than xenobiology.
At first, anyway.
You wish. I'm fairly certain the cafeteria has first dibs on any crew members that come back in pieces.

Well it's hard to get mammal meat at the bottom of the ocean, they gotta take what they can get.

Yeah, you really want to piss off the funding board, let them know we ate a half dozen dolphins last month because we were tired of freeze-dried cardboard.

Dolphins don't dive this deep. Now, whales and walruses on the other hand...
I've also heard reports from the science division that our efforts to harnass giant squid as attack animals failed miserably. The conversion of one submersible bay as a giant deep fryer for calimari rings set back interceptor operations for weeks. And, we have no more cooking oil or flour.

You have 24 hours to respond if you are still interested in a field posting. In the event that they also fail to respond, the positions will be given to the first to respond.

FTFY. These opening sorties have been too easy.
Let me keep my optimism. I know all too well what a tremendous bitch TFTD can be.

Acheron Base Mission Briefing- x-i clearance or above
Previously, we had assumed the enemy was conducting the same activities we were, essentially. Salvage, surveillance, and termination of any parties interfering with the previous two.
Today, we received scattered images from an island vacation resort near England. It appears a craft similar to those we have been dealing with briefly appearing. Shortly after, all contact was lost.
This will not be a rescue mission. We are not equipped to take on the enemy if they have moved into open war. We will touch down, assess the situation, capture any specialized equipment possible, and evacuate, passing the information to the surface X-Com branch.
Don't be a hero. Just get back alive with information and, if possible, live specimens or advanced technology.

Oh great I get to die on my first mission.
So help me god if we land and its night time...
Not quite.
You, Phoenix, and Sloth are not deploying on the current assignment.
If this level of tactical success continues, by the time I get to suit up I'll just be a mid-game redshirt, only usable for scouting out enemy locations and soaking up hits to protect the valuable guys.

(I also don't seem to be on the list, I know I'm currently in the much more important position of morale officer, but I'll be happy to relinquish that when my turn comes around to fight our delicious oppressors!)

I would just like to take a moment to remind everyone that the capture of live specimens really should be the top priority here. They make for much better study subjects, after all.
And the more we know about these invaders, the easier it will be [strike]to create a Frankensteinian monstrosity out of their tortured remains[/strike] to kill them quickly and efficiently in the future.

First on the list should be to study the effects of delicious drawn butter on the flesh of our recently-fallen enemies.

I am currently conducting a similar study on a piece of Aquatoid flesh I managed to... recover... from our corpse-freezer. Not as easy as it sounds; turns out the fuckers have very little meat on those spindly little arms.

Ok BloodySloth meet me in the rec room first round's on me!
"Come to X-Com, do shots whilst everybody else dies horribly at night in a building somewhere."
I'll come along. I can show you rooks a couple neat tricks that involve a small amount of liquor, an understanding of the effects of the base's pressurisation on the human bloodstream and an acute knowledge of exactly what frequency of electromagnetism is needed to make the liquid in the glass float about one foot above the bar.
Let me just get some of my equipment. I assure you it's almost entirely safe.
The idea that your vote is a moral statement about you or who you vote for is some backwards ass libertarian nonsense. Your vote is about society. Vote to protect the vulnerable.

I don't think anyone would be willing to insure you. I mean the premium alone per month would probably be the value of the insurance policy.
However, you might be able to take out an extremely high life annuity that terminates on death for a pittance.

Why I fear the ocean.
Sorry about that.
Corrected.
And a reminder. I need confirmations on the two remaining ground trooper slots.

Don't worry, this is where everyone dies quickly.
And by quickly, he means immediately.
