IGN: Now, give us a Valentine's Day gift and tell us SOMETHING about multiplayer. You know that the couple that plays together stays together – and that works for friends or significant others. What's going on with multiple players in Arkham City? Co-op? competitive? We must know!
Sefton Hill: There have been a number of rumors circulating about a multiplayer mode in Batman: Arkham City so let me start by saying, once and for all, that Batman: Arkham City is a "single-player only" experience.
Our thought process behind this was fairly simple: when we investigated adding multiplayer we asked, "If we use all of the energy that is required to create multiplayer and instead focus this on the single player, would that deliver a better overall game?"
With the game now coming to the final stages, I can honestly say it would not have been possible to deliver Arkham City the way we wanted to if we'd have added multiplayer.
So it might not be the fashionable choice, it might not get us an extra tick on the box, but we are convinced, and we hope that gamers will agree when they get to play the finished game, that we have made the right decision.
We hope that you love Arkham City. We're working as hard as we possibly can to deliver the game you want.

Probably not that severe, but I bet it loses out to Uncharted again at Giant Bomb, unless Naughty Dog craps up somethin' fierce.
It is extremely hard to make a Batman game. Extremely. Same with Superman. The more exposure the character has, generally, the harder to tailor the experience so it fits the perceptions.
Big balls to write off multiplayer. Most studios would cave in to pressure and release some ass that's been tacked on.
Rock on Rocksteady. Hope it's game of the year.
Graphically, I can see them shaders went through more than a few evolution stages.
Also for anyone that doesn't have it yet and wants to play it on PC (which is the best version of the game), Batman: Arkham Asylum - Game of the Year Edition is only $7.50 on Steam today and today only.

I love it when a development team decides to focus on one thing rather than spread their resources out over two.

I feel it'll be quite the opposite, actually. From the news sources I read and podcasts I listen to, many are always bringing up the idea of 'tacked on multiplayer' as something that isn't favorably looked upon. It seems we are in a renaissance of players (or at least game critics) who want a more focused single-player experience or multiplayer/co-op that is inherently unique. I think the comments previous to my post are a good indication of the same sentiments being shared.
Personally, Arkham Asylum got the multiplayer experience right the first time: Leaderboards and record sharing. Just bring that back and I'm good.

Man, what game sites/magazines call a game "good" and give it sub-5.0? Don't you know that anything in the first half of the game rating scale is a terrible fucking game, with the numbers just indicating different degrees of terribleness?

TVTropes are not a respected source on this forum and your attitude isn't helping.
Do yourself a favour and take a gander at the rules sticky, then never post tvtropes again.

Mine's working just fine. Morninglord's seems to be off, though.
If you thought that was presented as a joke you have some honest to god communication problems you need to address.
You came off completely serious. I think it's because you referenced it. Jokes are not usually referenced with the serious words "further reading". It threw me off completely.
that said I'm glad you weren't in the end. I'd hate to think you were that kind of person.

Take off your serious business hat, sometime.
If I were in completely serious mode, I would be bitching about AA's Batman not using his wrist blade thingies on his armor to parry bladed attacks, like the real Batman would.

So how about that Arkham City game, huh? I sure am looking forward to it.
I can't decide which one I am looking forward to more...this, or Portal 2.
I can wait on Portal 2. I can't wait for this.
I'm not big into puzzles but I am definitely big into smackin heads and polished presentation.
It helps that I played the last one a couple of months ago. I don't normally browse through threads in general unless I'm very bored and I guess I was busy during all the advertising, if there was any down here. I saw it on special and remembered some people mentioning it in other threads. Such a pleasant surprise!

I've already told my wife that I'm taking the day off from work when this hits. She usually doesn't care much for video games outside of Civilization and Rock Band, but she would actually watch me play Arkham Asylum, and she's quite excited for the sequel.

Yeah, it says a lot about the presentation of this game that my girlfriend was content to sit and watch it. That generally only happens for really polished titles since shes not a big gamer in general.
It's a rare title that is fun to watch as well as play.

Do not engage the Watermelons.
And that you don't just get them by beating the game or completing certain goals, but by actually finding them in the city.
That would just be swell.
A man after my own heart.
I'm still holding out hope for Catwoman challenge rooms. Although I'd also like a way to play as Catwoman in the single player.
Basically I just really like Catwoman.
They did say single-player
Never said that player is always necessarily Batman
the bat-armor was cool and all, but I really wanted to play the campaign in it
Agreed. It was cool for a few minutes, then I'm not sure I ever went back. Shame.
Or is it?
