I need some novels or short stories that'll make me want to sleep with the lights on. Here's a short list of what I like...
Lovecraft
August Derleth
Algernon Blackwood
Clive Barker some Stephen King. I haven't read any in years, but if he's done anything good recently, I'm game.
Lord Dunsany
Edgar Allan Poe
Oh, and finally, they have to be available on the Kindle. Short story collections are preferred, but I'm open to whatever.
I feel like this thread has been done before, but the Search function seems to be broken, so...

I have made a thread asking about horror fiction a while ago, generally it is not so easy to find stuff that is truly scary and not just going for gore and shock effects I'd say.
Some things that I found genuinely creepy:
Drood by Dan Simmons is one of the most interesting books I read last year.
Summer of Night by Dan Simmons(it is a lot like It(kids in the 60s battling supernatural forces in a small town) but I liked it better)
and the follow up A Winter Haunting also by Dan Simmons
Song of Khali which is also by Dan Simmons is supposed to be good but I haven't read it yet.
Everyone will recommend House of Leaves and I agree, while it's stylistic experimentation was a bit grating at times it has some really scary moments.
House of Leaves is a terrible book with a very interesting and scary opening that tries to rely too much on it's hipster cred. (Leaves is BLUE GASP)
IT is excellent if you haven't read it, as is Salem's Lot. John Dies at the End ain't bad either for scary, though it's a mix of comedy and horror. I haven't read much horror fiction either, other than King. Koontz isn't bad, and you can grab basically whatever of his zillion novels.

That's what I can come up with right away.
