Z has absolutely stunning animations. I would easily put it at the top of the pack.

Original Generations Gaiden is also up there, but in my opinion nothing touches Z for animation quality.

Also, Akilae, I was scouring my apartment the other night and I couldn't seem to find my coupon, I should have another coming in any day now since I'm waiting on a package from play-asia now. And if it comes down to it, even if nobody else wants in on it we can just trade referral links and use each others.

This is the greatest thread. That is all.

P.S. That is not all....So which SRWs do you guys think has the highest production value/most ridiculous animations? Original Generations (the Remake)? Because if I have to slog my way through lots of story I would love to comprehend I demand the highest pay off possible. Until I learn Japanese fluently, right after I'm finished with Mandarin, Hindi, and Turkish....Sigh.

Alpha 3. Everything wraps up nicely, and you get a HUGE cast to play with. Seeing GGG do 15000+ damage with the Goldion Crusher is just pure bliss.

Maddoc: Let me know. Cause otherwise I'm thinking of going with ncsx for my import needs.

Z is easily the top of the line. OG has shiny animations, but the overall choreography and attention to detail is a lot lower then in Z. Z has so many little details that it is absolutely crazy. I don't even mind the huge amount of recycling for Z2 because... well, damn. Everything in Z looked good except maybe Nu Gundam and Nu Gundam's being updated.

It's the little touches that make the whole thing shine. Like the Frost Brothers' combination attack in Z. After they get done beating the shit out of their opponent, the brothers fly offscreen - and Olba pauses to fire off one last blaster shot at his downed foe. That moment is pure Olba.

Also: Hey ImpAtom. I didn't know you posted on Penny Arcade too.

Heads up! Blurry scan with the SRWZ2 original has been released.
    Pgkfj.jpg

Originals are Crowe Broost and Tria Schott who co-pilot a mecha called Blaster.

Other details include Lelouch being able to pass his turn by giving commands of some kind - apparently he can support allies.

Dancougar Nova starts out as the Nova Eagle, can combine at 130 Will, but only for five turns.

Gurren and Lagann can be separated.

Original gives me a pretty strong Altairion vibe

Great to see Lelouch will have his own special system of some sort, but really I'm just looking forward to Gawain piloted by Lelouch and C.C.

Some info on new systems from Famitsu:
    Pilot Abilities
By raising specific stats using PP, new abilities become available for unlocking.
At 130 Will, unit movement increased by 1-2
When Will is above 120, you can take another action if you kill an enemy.

    Sub-Orders
During the intermission, you'll be able to have the pilots you didn't use in the previous mission undergo tasks in order to obtain bonuses.
    Training (PP+20)
    Patrol (Increases Kill Count)
Simulator (Increases EXP by 500 or more)
    Acquisition (Obtain 500xLv in credits/en/whatever)

Apparently the Blaster is actually called Brasta, due to a very specific way it's spelled out in Japanese. It's a reference to Libra and the Zodiac Sphere thing Z had going on.

The game looks to be very awesome so far. After the first stage, Crowe apparently gets to decide whether Brasta becomes a ranged or melee-oriented mech. Lots of route splits. Celestial Being Gundams have EN-Regen!

Oh, and I came across this from SRW-L. Easily the most characterful and downright hilarious team attack I've seen in a while.

    Team attack is 2m14 in.

Played the first two missions. Some basic impressions

    1) It looks fantastic, basically like a PS2 game. I'm playing it on a big screen blown up, but except for somewhat blurry text it looks ok. On the actual screen it probably looks even better. The sprite art is on the level of Z.

    2) You can install the game to a memory stick. It just reads the disc when you boot up the game. This begs the question, why isn't it on PSN?

    3) Unfortunately, no choice of protagonist or robot. However, the game does give you the choice between having the robot specialize in ranged weapons or melee. I picked ranged, and my robot stats certainly seems closer to a real than a super, but I suspect if I picked super it would have changed the stats into something closer to a super.

    4) Battle fast-forward works a little differently this time around. If you press the fast-forward button it skips a single battle animation instead of simply playing the sequence faster.

    5) I've only played two missions, so I don't want to make too general of a comment, but I think the SR points are going to be about on par with Z. So far there's no been absolutely no room for mistakes if you want the SR points.

    6) I like the protagonist. Not sure how much is ok to give away, but I'll just say that I approve of his motive for fighting. The story is taking place in yet another alternate reality where Gundam 00 politics dominate and the world periodically experiences inter-dimensional distortions. At least at the start it has no direct tie into Z, though it's pretty easy to see where the Z cast is going to come in from.

I'm not sure how Brasta's stats have changed. I went with melee because I chose to follow Celestial Being- most of the robots you run into in that route have ranged specialization. That said, Brasta is still pretty ranged in its melee-focused moves so far. Net missiles. Its crazy blade-shield-on-a-string, and a beam sword ammo type for its gun.

http://akurasu.net/wiki/Super_Robot_Wars/Z2/Flow_Chart Here's the flow chart for the game so far, if you want to know which series go in each route split and what each battle mastery requirement is.

Stage four in the Celestial Being route is hilarious.
INTERVENTION CLUSTERFUCK! Celestial Being, Gundam Wing Boys, and Dancougar Nova all step in.

Is it just me, or are some of the SR points really difficult? I just barely managed to get the Ep.10 point on the Macross route after retrying three times.

Also, is Dancougar always going to be stuck with that 5 turn time limit with 130 spirit to transform?

The time limit goes away once D.Nova upgrades later.

Not that I've ever had trouble with the 5 turn limit. Most of the early game SRs don't even give you that long to earn the point.

You actually got it? I don't know if I ever did. This is going to be annoying. Show-introduction SR points are horrible in New Game + because you're dealing with stock units.

Just give Aoi the Fire Bomber CD. It increases her Will by 3 every turn.

Got through the Macross F stages, and suddenly I have a huge stock of supers to upgrade before the next mission. For now I'm planning to upgrade them all a little until I pick my favorites, but are there any super robos I should prioritize upgrading for an SR point?

Also, what pilot skills are good? Double attack and consecutive attack both seem good, but for smaller units it might make more sense to actually put on ignore size so they can fight against the larger enemies. It's also kind of tempting to blow the PP with real robot pilots upgrading their air/space skills.

Only got to a play a little last night. Some thoughts:

    1) Why won't they let me change Mazinger's pilot to Sayaka?! BOO.

    2) Mazinger is obscenly powerful. So is that Gurren thing. Dancougar is simply a monster.

    3) I'm trying to show love for Dai Guard, but he really stunk up the joint when I put him in fray of battle. Couldn't even take down a real robot in one attack with his less powerful attacks.

    4) Are snipers particularly useful for anything? A real robot without concentrate basically has no business on the battlefield.

    5) Macross F units are all pretty good, outright better than both of the Gundam series.

    6) I miss the squad system. I'm going to rotate my units so I can use a little bit of everything, but I really preferred it when I could take 90% of my units into battle with me.

Ugh. Scenario 20 is such bullshit.
It's that episode in 00 where all three factions gang up on Celestial Being. Everyone and their mother shows up, including ~5 bosses with 20k HP each. Ali's even has a damage-absorbing shield. What the FUCK. :(

The Skill Point asks you beat all of these reinforcements within 3 turns of them showing up.
