My neighbors came to me with a computer that wouldn't boot. So I dropped my PSU into it and BAM good to go.
So I'm left with the task of buying a new one, but since its an older computer, integrated graphics and what have you I clearly need a weaker/cheaper one but I know the horror stories of bargain buy PSUs.

So where is the sweet middle ground here?

I had my boss come in with an old HP pavillion with a blown PSU about 3 weeks ago and I had him buy this for it:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371034

the first step was taking the computer model and searching for 'model number' power supply replacement.

looking at the specs and then find something similar that wasn't a ripoff.

    In general... check the pins.

    go for about 400 watts

get them to spend about 40 bucks.

    Quality, all sounds great.
    Thanks for the tips.

This can be locked but I'm open to whatever anyone else has to say on the subject. :)

If you go cheap on a PSU, you will eventually regret it.
