Ok so I just recently formatted my computer and went to run Batman: AA. At the beginning of the installation process an error pops up saying "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application." I clicked ok to google up an answer and didn't find one. Meanwhile it continued to try to install and now I get this message:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. (blah blah continue or quit). Could not load file or assemble Microsoft.DirectX.Direct3D, Version =1.0.2902.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35 or one of it's dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified."
I'm assuming this relates to a .Net framework file or something. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 and in my Add/Remove Programs I see the following:
.Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2
.Net Framework 3.0 Service Pack 2
.Net Framework 3.5 SP 1
Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile

Batman: AA itself probably doesn't use managed direct X. Install the latest Games For Windows Live client, and if that doesn't work install the latest XNA runtime.

If not, I would start with a current install of DirectX, as suggested above.
