ok, I went out to best buy and gamestop to see what kind of component cables were available. The only ones I could really find were around $50-60. I really kinda thought that was quite high. My question is: are there cheaper cables that are of acceptable quality for both systems? actually, also include the original xbox. And what is the main difference between ones that *are* cheaper and the expensive ones?

I picked up a set of Wii component cabled for about 20 bucks at Walmart.

If you are pumping an HD signal though, you would want better quality, but for SD it really doesn't matter that much. Just remember, analog is effected by shit a lot more than digital.

There are indeed cheap cables. I think there's some three-in-one component cable for $20 on Play-Asia that works on Wii, X360, and PS2/PS3. And the difference between cheap cables and expensive cables is the brand name and packaging, pretty much.

Unless you have tons of interference or you're running the cables across your house you will not really notice any difference

I saw some madcatz ones for PS2/3 and i think the Wii at EBGames for 24 bucks. Component cables that is. They also had HDMI cables for 50 bucks. Those arent bad prices compared to the official cables, which are pretty much double the price.

Honestly though i will most likely buy cheaper cables, because im not broadcasting radio beside my consoles, nor are the cables running near a high voltage electrical line.

EB sells the Mad Catz Wii component cables for $50 while Mad Catz sells the cables on their site for $20. The EXACT same cables.

Retail stores will always rip you off on cables.

Game system cables shouldn't cost more than $10-$20. That's for third-party cables, which are fine. I wouldn't trust Mad Catz to make a memory card, but they can handle a wire.

Commodity cables (not tied to a game system) shouldn't be more than ten or fifteen bucks. There is no goddamn reason why HDMI cables are at a minimum $50-$75 everywhere in retail stores. Go online to Monoprice or something. You don't need gold plating, it's just a gimmick. I mean, fuck, I was in Best Buy the other week and I saw a set of gold plated TOSLink cables.. That's right, fiber optic cables with gold-plated connectors. What the fuck kind of idiot buys this stuff?

I would personally recommend these: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-10z-49-en-70-1rch.html

    $10 and works good.
