ok, I went out to best buy and gamestop to see what kind of component cables were available. The only ones I could really find were around $50-60. I really kinda thought that was quite high. My question is: are there cheaper cables that are of acceptable quality for both systems? actually, also include the original xbox. And what is the main difference between ones that *are* cheaper and the expensive ones?

If you are pumping an HD signal though, you would want better quality, but for SD it really doesn't matter that much. Just remember, analog is effected by shit a lot more than digital.
Oh, about $25 and not much else.

Honestly though i will most likely buy cheaper cables, because im not broadcasting radio beside my consoles, nor are the cables running near a high voltage electrical line.

Retail stores will always rip you off on cables.
Game system cables shouldn't cost more than $10-$20. That's for third-party cables, which are fine. I wouldn't trust Mad Catz to make a memory card, but they can handle a wire.
Commodity cables (not tied to a game system) shouldn't be more than ten or fifteen bucks. There is no goddamn reason why HDMI cables are at a minimum $50-$75 everywhere in retail stores. Go online to Monoprice or something. You don't need gold plating, it's just a gimmick. I mean, fuck, I was in Best Buy the other week and I saw a set of gold plated TOSLink cables.. That's right, fiber optic cables with gold-plated connectors. What the fuck kind of idiot buys this stuff?
$10 and works good.
