So, I just rebooted, and firefox decided to delete all of my bookmarks.

Uh.

Anyone know how I can retrieve my lost pages? That rather sucks. Anyone else have this problem?

It happened to me, so I ended up having to restore from a prior save. Made me switch to Opera for awhile too, until I realized that I still liked Firefox better.

Which reminds me, I should back-up my bookmarks.

this happend to me afew times... they *might* not be deleted, try typing 'firefox.exe -profilemanager' into run and see if it 'defaulted' your profile.

Thats what happened to me, anyway.

Also, Firefox usually makes a backup of your bookmarks file. Check C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[User Profile] to find the bookmarks.bak file. You can rename it to bookmarks.html to (hopefully) restore the bookmarks.

Why does it do this? This was one reason that I switched to Opera. I bookmark a lot of sites that I come across, and I hate losing them.

    Don't fuck with a man's porno bookmarks.

Some of those sites you come across are once-in-a-lifetime chance encounters.

I've had this happen to me several times as well. Still haven't figured out why.

This is probably the most annoying "feature" about firefox. Happened to me twice, sucks having to rebookmark everything. Also, Daisuke you have a huuuuuuuuuge sig.

Repeat often to not lose them. An ounce of prevention...

While it is true that bookmarks can be backed up easily, the user shouldn't have to. There's no good reason for a web browser to lose bookmarks randomly.

its annoying for me, whenever i want to add a bookmark firefox wont let me until i select specifically what bookmark folder i want it in, but then it will delete the name of the webpage bookmarked.

so all of my new bookmarks are nameless, its annoying

I can't imagine NOT using delicious these days. It's integrated into my browser, saves with tags, updates easily, can be checked anywhere, and is all around awesome.

The number of cool things I've discovered/forgotten about would be staggering if it wasn't for delicious tagging.

MSNs bookmarks are tied to your ISP account and their software. Imagine the hilarity when you swtich ISPs.

You don't have to use the backup feature. I use Google Browser Sync as a sort of a backup. I mainly use it so I can close my Firefox window at home with all the links, tabs and bookmarks I need, go to Uni, open Firefox and presto! They are all there.

I use http://www.foxmarks.com/. But that Google synchroniser looks awesome too. I might check it out.

I've got a desktop top I rarely use and a laptop I use frequently. I would have smashed the desktop in rage if I had to use shitty uncustomized firefox when I update stuff on it.

Are you sure? All versions after FF1.0 save backups... Was there no file, or did it just not have what you wanted?
